Andrew Karpen Dies: Bleecker Street Media Founder And CEO Was 59

Yahoo29-04-2025
Bleecker Street Media founder and CEO Andrew Karpen died Monday from glioblastoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer that upended his life when it was discovered in January 2024. He was 59.
Karpen has been a fixture in the independent film space for decades, and went from co-CEO of Focus Features to form Bleecker Street Media in 2014. Bleecker has released more than 75 films since then, theatrical releases across all genres. That includes films from auteurs like Steven Soderbergh (Logan Lucky), Debra Granik (Leave No Trace), andOscar-nominated films including Captain Fantastic and Trumbo. He was known as the epitome of class; an executive you could look in the eye and trust what he told you. He turned 59 on April 18.

Deadline detailed the ordeal that Karpen and his wife Pam went through, a piece I wrote to spur donations to help the work of Dr. John Boockvar, a neurosurgeon at the Brain Tumor Center at Lenox Hill Hospital, and the pioneering work they do to combat glioblastoma. It went against his penchant for spurning the spotlight, but Andrew and Pam's revelations helped raise a significant sum for a worthy cause and a doctor who prolonged his life and gave him precious time.
Karpen was feeling robust when he headed to his office on January 2, 2024, getting a start on a year that would see 11 film releases over the next 12 months. He had been experiencing unusual feelings; stumbling while he and Pam played pickleball with friends over the holiday and some numbness in his right leg. When he got to the office, he had difficulty typing with his right arm. He called his doctor and was told to come home immediately. A CAT scan and MRI revealed the fatal brain cancer. A first brief surgery revealed the depths of the problem. The first surgeon could not get deep enough into the brain to remove much of the tumor. Karpen was losing dexterity quickly because the tumor was sitting on and putting pressure on the part of the brain that controls those motor skills.
That led Andrew and Pam to Boockvar, who attacked the cancer aggressively. The doctor and his work has been featured in two Netflix documentaries. Karpen underwent a full craniotomy, a four-hour procedure that excised most of the tumor. While there was danger of paralysis or worse, Karpen pulled through. After a course of chemotherapy and radiation, the Karpens got news that the tumor was gone.
While they knew that the glioblastoma could reassert itself in other ways, which it did, this was a miracle reprieve. It allowed Andrew to be able to see his oldest son, Josh, get married last July in Colorado, something that meant the world to him. Josh and wife Kristen are now expecting their first child.
DEADLINE RELATED VIDEO:
I've known Andrew for years. We bonded quickly over three things: a passion for independent theatrical film and all the challenges that come with toiling in that space; being able to be part of Hollywood and live on the East Coast, he in Connecticut and me from Long Island. Also, there was our mutual passion for the New York Football Giants. Pam's family has been season-ticket holders since 1938, and Andrew stayed in proximity to be a tailgating fixture at most home games.
The season opener always fell during the start of the Toronto Film Festival, and we made it a point to catch the game at some bar, usually surrounded by other execs and agents. One year, Karpen had to beg out because he was obliged to go to a premiere of a female-driven acquisition title which he didn't buy. I gave him good-natured abuse for years, mindful he was doing his job.
As Karpen dealt with brain cancer, Bleecker Street was held together by a team of execs headed by his longtime friend and colleague Kent Sanderson.
'Our industry has lost a giant,' Sanderson told me. 'Andrew taught us all so much, foremost of which is the value of kindness, honesty, and family above all else. His leadership and courage will inspire all of us at Bleecker Street for the rest of our lives, and we are dedicated to continuing his passion for and legacy of championing cinema.'
Karpen is survived by wife Pam; his sons Josh and Zack; his daughter Sloan; and Josh's wife Kristen. The family would appreciate donations made in Karpen's name to the Lenox Hill Brain Tumor Center, or Fairfield County Hospice House.

Pamela Anderson's Full Dating History: Ex Boyfriends and Husbands

As you're likely well aware, Pamela Anderson and Liam Neeson are newly dating and it's completely adorable. Especially since Pamela has been through a lot when it comes to relationships. For those of you who haven't a) read her memoir, b) watched her Netflix doc, or c) binge-watched Pam & Tommy, here's a look at Pamela's complete (verified—no rumors here) dating history. Pamela and Scott dated for about three years in the early 90s, and even almost got engaged. Mostly, Scott got caught up in a romantic moment. As he put it in 2007, "Don't ever take a shower with a woman, because you'll probably end up proposing to her. There was a lot of soap, and I was making a speech, but my entire being was going, 'What are you doing? Shut up!' But I didn't stop." Pamela and the Poison frontman dated for a minute, and allegedly split due to Bret's, shall we say, disinterest in monogamy. Professional surfer Kelly Slater met Pamela on set of Baywatch and they fell hard. She gushed about him in her Netflix doc, saying "He was such a sweetheart to me and so good to me. Kelly and I dated all the time. Between lots of boyfriends and lots of girlfriends for him, too, but it wasn't just me. He definitely was a heartbreaker. He was a free spirit." Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson met at a club on New Year's Eve. Here's what Tommy had to say about the moment in his memoir, Tommyland, "I went out with some of my best bros to a club…Suddenly, a waitress came over and said, 'Tommy, here's a shot of Goldschläger. It's for you, from Pamela Anderson.' I pushed my way into [her] booth, slid over her girlfriends' laps and forced myself a space right next to her. Then I grabbed her face and just licked the side of it, from chin to temple." Wow. A move. Anyway, these two started dating in February, Tommy Lee followed Pamela to Cancun for a photoshoot, and he popped the question three days into the trip. The next day, they got married. Though technically Pamela was still dating Kelly. "I was dating Kelly Slater at the time, and I was supposed to go see him in Florida and meet his family," she said in her Netflix doc. "My first phone call was to him to tell him I was married. He's like, 'What?!' That was horrible.'" Pam and Tommy went on honeymoon that summer and filmed an intimate video that ended up being stolen, sold, and published without their permission. Amid the aftershocks of that trauma, Pamela welcomed the couple's first son, Brandon, and then their second son, Dylan, in 1997. The couple divorced in 1998 after Tommy was arrested and charged with spousal abuse, but they got back together a few times over the years. Pam and Swedish model Marcus Schenkenberg dated for under a year after meeting due to a bird from a toilet in Monaco? You know what, sure. Pamela and Kid Rock (aka Bob Ritchie) married in 2006 after dating for five years, and broke up just a few months later—after a screening of Borat. Per Pamela's memoir, "Lots of important industry people were there—Steven Spielberg, Rick Rubin, Laird Hamilton and his wife, Gabby Reece. I didn't tell Bob I was in the movie, because I wanted to surprise him. I forgot about the part in the film that referenced the 'sex tape.' Bob stormed out, calling me a whore and worse." She added, "We broke up. I didn't stay in touch with Bob." Pamela and Rick married in October 2007, split ten weeks later, got back together, and ended up having their marriage annulled in March 2008. Your favorite circa 2025 celebrity rollercoaster relationship could never. Pamela and Rick got back together, married in January 2014, and then broke up again that summer (their divorce went through in 2015). "We were only married a few months, it was annulled, but we were still friends," Pam said in her Netflix doc, per the Post. "When he got sober, and was sober for years, we decided to try it again. ... It didn't last long either." Pamela was spotted visiting Julian at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London (where he was seeking asylum) back in 2017, and wrote about their burgeoning relationship in her blog. As she put it, "My relationship with Julian—it's no secret. He is one of my favorite people." She also called him "sexy." Pamela dated French soccer player Adil Rami for a couple years—and apparently Adil even proposed to Pamela. They broke up after she claimed he was cheating on her (which he denied). Pam and Jon got "married" (it was never official), but said "marriage" only lasted 12 days before they split. The pair remained friends, and Pamela told Variety in 2023 "He's great and has been a huge influence on my life. I love him to death." Meanwhile Peters added 'I will always love Pamela, always in my heart. As a matter of fact, I left her $10 million in my will. And she doesn't even know that. Nobody knows that. I'm just saying it for the first time with you. I probably shouldn't be saying it. So that's for her, whether she needs it or not." Pamela fell for her builder, Dan Hayhurst, while he was renovating her house. But it was super short lived, and Pamela told The Sunday Times that it "was stupid," adding that the marriage "was worse than any of them. And I realized, 'Oh my God, I'm caught up in this whole thing, what am I doing?' It just struck me, this is another disaster. ... I was paying for everything, cooking, cleaning for everybody. And so I just got out of it as soon as I could." Pam and Liam met on the set of their film The Naked Gun, and started dating during the press tour. The vibes are adorable, so please enjoy a full deep dive this way:

New EMA Research Highlights Keeper Security's Strength in Modern Privileged Access Management

Keeper customers report easier deployments and stronger security controls compared to other PAM vendors LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, August 15, 2025 / / -- Keeper Security, the leading zero-trust and zero-knowledge Privileged Access Management (PAM) platform protecting passwords and passkeys, privileged accounts, secrets and remote connections, today announces the release of a new global survey report from Enterprise Management Associates (EMA), Beyond the Vault: Elevating Privileged Access Management in the Modern Enterprise. The independent survey and report evaluates eight major PAM platforms and identifies Keeper as a leader in deployment ease, security architecture and customer satisfaction. With 69% of organisations adopting PAM primarily to prevent credential theft and mitigate cyber threats, solutions based on zero-trust and zero-knowledge principles are increasingly critical to enforce continuous identity verification and secure sensitive data. The EMA survey, based on responses from cybersecurity professionals actively using eight leading PAM platforms, found that Keeper customers experience faster deployments, stronger adherence to zero-trust principles and higher overall satisfaction compared to users of other PAM solutions. Key findings include: • 60% of Keeper customers report their PAM platform as truly 'zero-knowledge' and 'zero-trust by design,' nearly double the 35% reported by users of other platforms. • 60% of Keeper users describe deployment as 'very easy,' compared to just 22% of the users of other PAM solutions. • Only 15% of Keeper customers require dedicated staff to manage deployment and integration, versus nearly 40% of users of other providers - significantly reducing IT resource strain often seen in UK councils, NHS trusts, and educational institutions. • 75% of Keeper users are 'very satisfied' with their solution, significantly higher than the 54% satisfaction rate for other vendors. • None of Keeper's customers reported plans to switch platforms, while 5% of other users surveyed said they are actively seeking alternatives. The findings come at a time when UK organisations face increasing pressure to modernise their security solutions responsible for Identity and Access Management (IAM), following the UK Government's Cyber Security Strategy (2022-2030) as well as a heightened regulatory focus on ransomware resilience. For public sector entities such as NHS Trusts, councils and critical national infrastructure, the need for zero-trust, cloud-based solutions that reduce complexity and staffing overhead is growing increasingly urgent. The report also highlights that a privileged access management solution like KeeperPAM™ integrates advanced capabilities such as just-in-time provisioning, remote browser isolation, endpoint privilege management and privileged session monitoring. These features enable organisations to eliminate shared credentials, enforce least-privilege access and automate the entire privilege lifecycle from onboarding to deprovisioning. 'Privileged access remains the most critical control point for cybersecurity,' said Darren Guccione, CEO and Co-founder of Keeper Security. 'Legacy tools often fall short due to complexity, slow deployment and limited integration. KeeperPAM was designed to address these challenges with a zero-trust architecture and zero-knowledge encryption, enabling fast, secure access controls without compromise. This report validates the high value we deliver to organisations and their security teams.' Unlike legacy on-premises PAM platforms that often face brittle integrations and require significant staffing resources, KeeperPAM's cloud-native design streamlines deployment and simplifies integration with identity providers, SIEM platforms and CI/CD pipelines. This reduces operational overhead and allows security teams to shift their focus from reactive strategies to proactive risk mitigation. Organisations using competing solutions report significantly more challenges, from missing features to integration difficulties, with 73% citing at least one major issue, compared to just 35% of Keeper customers. The complete EMA report, Beyond the Vault: Elevating Privileged Access Management in the Modern Enterprise, is now available for download. ### About Keeper Security Keeper Security is transforming cybersecurity for millions of individuals and thousands of organisations globally.
