Pete Alonso wins NL Player of the Week, Jac Caglianone debuts in latest MLB Gators update
June baseball is heating up, and so are several former Florida Gators making noise in the big leagues.
The storylines this week range from an All-Star slugger catching fire to a top prospect breaking into the majors.
Pete Alonso continues to lead the charge for the New York Mets, taking home National League Player of the Week honors, while rookie Jac Caglianone made his MLB debut with the Kansas City Royals.
Across the league, Wyatt Langford is in a slump, Harrison Bader is struggling to find his rhythm and Jonathan India is quietly putting together a solid stretch.
On the mound, Brady Singer remains a steady presence for the Cincinnati Reds.
Here's how the Gators performed this past week.
Pete Alonso: First Baseman, New York Mets
Last 7 Games: .400 AVG | .486 OBP | .967 SLG | 12 H | 5 HR | 15 RBI | 3 BB | 7 SO
2025 Season: .301 AVG | .396 OBP | .990 OPS | 17 HR | 61 RBI | 75 H
Alonso stayed red-hot at the plate, launching five home runs and driving in 15 runs over his last seven games. The former Gators slugger hit .400 during that stretch and now owns a .990 OPS on the year. He's pacing the Mets offense and was just awarded the National League Player of the Week.
He's also shown improved patience at the plate, drawing three walks while only striking out seven times. With the Mets needing consistent run production, Alonso is reestablishing himself as one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball.
Jac Caglianone: First Baseman/Outfielder, Kansas City Royals
Last 7 Games: .240 AVG | .240 OBP | .320 SLG | 6 H | 0 HR | 1 RBI | 0 BB | 4 SO
2025 Season: .240 AVG | .240 OBP | .560 OPS | 6 H | 1 RBI
Caglianone made his big league debut on June 3 and collected his first career hit in his second game against the St. Louis Cardinals which was a double. He's started his MLB journey with six hits in 25 at-bats, showing flashes of his offensive potential that made him a first-round pick.
In Caglianone's last game, he showed off his fantastic bat-to-ball skills, going 4-for-4 at the plate including a double against the Chicago White Sox. While the power hasn't surfaced yet, his ability to barrel the ball has Royals fans optimistic.
Wyatt Langford: Outfielder, Texas Rangers
Last 7 Games: .143 AVG | .194 OBP | .179 SLG | 4 H | 0 HR | 3 RBI | 2 BB | 11 SO
2025 Season: .227 AVG | .306 OBP | .731 OPS | 11 HR | 26 RBI | 47 H
Langford has hit a rough patch in June, managing just four hits over his last 28 at-bats. He struck out 11 times in that span, and his power has cooled off. Still, with 11 homers on the season, the Rangers continue to count on his upside.
Texas remains patient, hoping Langford's approach at the plate improves with more reps. Despite the slump, he's still contributing with timely RBIs and remains a regular in the Rangers lineup.
Harrison Bader: Outfielder, Minnesota Twins
Last 7 Games: .118 AVG | .250 OBP | .353 SLG | 2 H | 1 HR | 2 RBI | 3 BB | 8 SO
2025 Season: .255 AVG | .346 OBP | .766 OPS | 6 HR | 24 RBI | 6 SB
Bader is in a mini-slump with just two hits in his last 17 at-bats, but he did manage to go deep once and drew a few walks. Despite the rough stretch, his overall numbers remain strong as he continues to be a defensive asset in Minnesota's outfield.
Even during the cold spell, Bader's ability to impact games with his glove and speed helps the Twins. His recent walk rate also suggests he's seeing the ball well, even if the hits aren't falling.
Jonathan India: Infielder, Kansas City Royals
Last 7 Games: .300 AVG | .313 OBP | .433 SLG | 9 H | 1 HR | 4 RBI | 1 BB | 3 SO
2025 Season: .248 AVG | .331 OBP | .654 OPS | 2 HR | 17 RBI | 56 H
India has quietly been one of the Royals' more consistent bats lately. He hit .300 over the past week, adding a home run and four RBI to his season total. His OBP remains solid as he continues to get on base and limit strikeouts.
His contact rate and plate discipline have stood out, helping to stabilize Kansas City's middle infield. India's versatility in the field has also provided the Royals with options as the team juggles its infield depth.
Brady Singer: Starting Pitcher, Cincinnati Reds
Last 2 Starts: 0-0 | 10.0 IP | 9 H | 5 ER | 4 BB | 6 SO
2025 Season: 6-4 | 4.59 ERA | 68.2 IP | 56 SO | 1.35 WHIP
Singer made two starts this past week, tossing five innings each against the Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers. He allowed a combined five earned runs on nine hits while striking out six. Despite keeping the Reds competitive, he didn't factor into the decision in either outing.
While the results weren't dominant, Singer kept his team in both games and avoided big innings. His command remains a work in progress, but his ability to pitch deep into games makes him a steady middle-of-the-rotation arm.

Kikuchi carries shutout into 8th and Angels beat A's 7-4 despite Clarke's amazing catch
Yusei Kikuchi took a one-hit shutout into the eighth inning and Jo Adell homered and drove in three runs to help the Los Angeles Angels beat the Athletics 7-4 on Monday night. Mike Trout had two RBIs for the Angels, who shook off the latest incredible catch by Athletics rookie Denzel Clarke in center field. Kikuchi (2-5) yielded just a one-out single to Max Muncy in the fifth and exited after striking out Nick Kurtz with his 104th pitch to begin the eighth. The left-hander struck out five and walked one in a brilliant outing. Muncy and pinch-hitter JJ Bleday homered late for the Athletics. Clarke continued to dazzle with his glove, climbing the wall and hanging from the top to rob Nolan Schanuel of a solo homer in the first. Clarke ran full speed into the fence to make a courageous catch against the Orioles last week. Zach Neto, Schanuel and Trout provided three straight RBI singles off Jeffrey Springs (5-5) to give the Angels a 3-0 lead in the third. Springs entered after Grant Holman opened with a scoreless inning. Adell hit his 12th home run — a solo shot off Springs in the fourth for a 4-0 lead — and followed a sacrifice fly by Trout in the eighth with a two-run single for a 7-2 advantage. Muncy hit his fourth home run — a two-run shot off Shaun Anderson in the ninth. Connor Brogdon gave up a single to Luis Urías after replacing Kikuchi, and Bleday followed with his seventh homer to make it 4-2. Ryan Zeferjahn got the final two outs in the eighth. Jacob Wilson went 0 for 4 for the Athletics, ending his run of five straight games with multiple hits. Key moment The three straight singles by Neto, Schanuel and Trout off Springs came after Holman retired them in order in the first. Key stat The Angels outscored the Athletics 31-18 in winning all four games May 19-22 at Sutter Health Park — the A's temporary home. Up next RHP José Soriano (4-5, 4.11 ERA) starts for Los Angeles on Tuesday. The Athletics hadn't announced a scheduled starter.

Andy Pages delivers in 10th, Dodgers edge Padres 8-7 in rivals' first meeting of the season
Andy Pages led off the 10th inning with an RBI double before scoring on Tommy Edman's single, and the Los Angeles Dodgers hung on to open their season series against the San Diego Padres with an 8-7 victory Monday night. Will Smith homered and drove in three runs in the first of seven meetings in 11 days between the Southern California rivals. It's also a rematch of their NL Division Series last October, when the Dodgers rallied from a 2-1 deficit to eliminate San Diego with back-to-back shutouts in what proved to be their toughest playoff test on the way to a World Series championship. After Pages delivered yet another clutch hit off Wandy Peralta (3-1), Edman brought him home with a fortunate bouncer that ricocheted off second base. Jackson Merrill slugged a one-out RBI double in the 10th for San Diego, but Tanner Scott finished for his 12th save. Kirby Yates (4-2) struck out two in a hitless ninth. Tyler Wade had a three-run triple for the Padres, who have lost four of six. Nick Pivetta yielded five runs and eight hits over just four innings in his second straight rough start for the Padres, while Dustin May gave up six hits and four walks over five innings for LA. Shohei Ohtani led off with a 111-mph double and scored on a double by Freddie Freeman, who had three hits. Manny Machado had an RBI double for San Diego in the first. Smith put the Dodgers up 5-3 in the third with a two-run homer, his sixth. Wade cleared the bases for the Padres later in the third with a two-out drive that Teoscar Hernández couldn't catch while sliding in right field. Key moment Hyeseong Kim had a tying double in the fifth for the Dodgers, and neither team scored again until Pages drove in Max Muncy. Key stat In front of Petco Park's usual lively bipartisan crowd for this rivalry, both starting pitchers were battered by these powerhouse lineups for 11 combined runs in the first three innings. Up next Dylan Cease (1-5, 4.72 ERA) pitches Tuesday for San Diego. The Dodgers hadn't announced the next patch on their injury-riddled rotation.

Ben Cherington Silences Paul Skenes Trade Rumors: 'Not Part of the Conversation'
With the Pittsburgh Pirates continuing to dive into a downward spiral, rumors have surrounded superstar pitcher and reigning National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes as he embarks on yet another strong season. Baseball fans have salivated at the possibility of Skenes going to a contender and playing an ace-level role on a playoff team. Advertisement One National League executive, in a report by Mark Feinsand, said that a Skenes trade would "likely be as significant a trade return as we've ever seen." In a press briefing, however, Ben Cherington, the general manager of the Pirates, poured cold water on any rumors around their ace. Pittsburgh Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes (30) throws a pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies in the third inning at Citizens Bank Ross - Imagn Images "No. It's not at all part of the conversation," Cherington said, per Alex Stumpf, who reports on the Pirates. Any rumors around Skenes, who has six controllable seasons ahead of him, seemed to always be a pipe dream. Even despite any concrete evidence of any trade talks, Bleacher Report simulated trades for Skenes this year. Advertisement A trade to the beleaguered Baltimore Orioles revolved around Grayson Rodriguez, and a trade to the Boston Red Sox centered around No. 1 overall prospect Roman Anthony. Despite the possibility that a Skenes trade could significantly bolster the Pirates' roster without necessarily beefing up their already emaciated payroll, the Pirates are clearly holding firm. The Pirates seem to be playing a game where they refuse to surround Skenes with a competitive roster, but won't pony up the money to extend him, in what has to be one of the most frustrating strategies in recent history. One can only feel bad for Pirates fans.
