PRCS introduces 2026 Park System Master Plan project

Yahoo25-04-2025

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department (PRCS) addressed the 2026 Park System Master Plan project, an update of the 2014 plan that aims to create a vision and address the needs of the growing community.
On Friday, April 25, multiple City officials met to discuss and present the 2026 Park System Master Plan Project, which is kicking off Phase One: The Planning Phase. According to PRCS Director Britt Haley, the phase includes a team gathering essential data, park facilities, and programs.
The new master plan will also begin offering opportunities for the public to get involved in the planning starting in late Spring/Summer and continuing through 2025.
'This is a collaborative effort that requires input and involvement from each of you,' said Executive Director of Trails and Open Space Coalition Glen Carson. 'It's your park system. The voice of the entire community is essential as we look to create a plan that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the citizens of Colorado Springs. I encourage every one of you to get involved in this process.'
Carson encouraged individuals to attend public meetings, community workshops, comprehensible surveys, and pop-up events.
The plan aims to create a roadmap for the next 10 to 15 years that reflects the interests of Colorado Springs residents.
'Share your ideas, participate in the surveys, and help us envision a park system that we can all take pride in as a community, Carson added. 'Let's come together to celebrate what makes Colorado Springs great. Let's work hand in hand to preserve our parks, recreation, and cultural services and make them even better for future generations. Together, we can ensure that our city remains a vibrant place for recreation, relaxation, and community connection.'

Construction affects Sioux Falls city parks

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — New construction projects this week will impact people's access to a pair of Sioux Falls city parks. Starting Monday, crews will begin replacing the Riverdale Park asphalt bike trail with concrete. No access to the bike trail loop will be available from the park. Instead, you can get to the trail from either Rotary or Cherry Rock parks. The work should be finished next month. Also Monday, crews will be installing utilities at the new pool in McKennan Park. That means South 4th Avenue between Park Drive and 26th Street will be closed to traffic. The work should be finished in two weeks. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. SECU Awards Summer Camp Scholarships to 457 Youth Members Statewide

RALEIGH, N.C., June 04, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) has concluded its fourth annual Summer Camp Awards campaign, granting $500 scholarships to 457 young members throughout North Carolina. Recipients were selected through random drawings, with one FAT CAT® and one Zard® winner per branch from all eligible entries. The scholarships will be used for the registration costs and associated fees at the summer camp chosen by each youth winner. Applicants submitted an illustration or essay about their dream camp experience to be entered into the contest. Since its launch in 2022 the program has provided scholarships totaling $508,000 to 1,016 FAT CAT and Zard members. Summer Camp Awards were established to encourage young members to expand their knowledge through fun and engaging summer camps and provide financial support to help youth families pursue these impactful opportunities. 'Parks was very excited when he found out he was a Summer Camp Award winner,' said Michael Hamilton, father of Raleigh-Wakefield Branch winner Parks Hamilton. 'For his entry, he drew a picture of pandas, bamboo, flowers, a hummingbird, a seagull, and volcanos – things he's seen in Kung Fu Panda. He will be attending a Tae Kwon Do camp this summer and is really looking forward to it.' 'We are so pleased to contribute to our young members' summer camp experiences and continue our support for SECU families across the state through this beneficial program for a fourth consecutive year,' said SECU President and CEO Leigh Brady. 'The educational opportunities afforded to youth through summer camps are so incredibly valuable, and I want to offer our sincere congratulations to this year's winners!'
