
Reopening of shut exit gate, frequent trolley retrieval to end airport chaos
According to the proposal, a significant portion of the congestion stems from a combination of high passenger volume, delays in vehicle movement and inadequate pedestrian management at the airport's integrated terminal. The police and the airport authorities have identified three key trouble spots — the arrival gate area, the commercial vehicle line and the parking lot's exit gate.
"The arrival gate at 2A/B was shut since the pandemic.
It was not an issue in the first few years, but with the passenger count increasing to pre-Covid levels, it is becoming very difficult to manage the passenger load with just one gate, that too at the start of the terminal building where passengers come out and crowd near the gate," said a Bidhannagar City Police officer.

The airport authorities, which so far cited a lack of enough CISF personnel to manage the gate, are finally considering reopening the gate.
"Opening gate 2A/B for arriving passengers will ease the load on gate 1A/B. A zebra crossing is also recommended near the gate to ensure safe pedestrian movement and facilitate smoother traffic circulation," an officer said.
Cops and airport authorities said they were also working on a streamlined approach to managing entry and exit points to minimise waiting time and reduce vehicle pile-ups. The airport authorities are also installing clearer and more prominent signage to help passengers and drivers navigate the terminal area more efficiently, reducing unnecessary halts and confusion.
A proposal has also been floated for an overall trolley management overhaul. It suggests designated trolley zones and more frequent collection, along with awareness campaigns to curb the issue of abandoned trolleys causing obstructions. "Passengers coming out of the airport often leave their trolleys on the side of the road while they board their cars or app cabs. These trolleys are usually collected after half an hour, but during rush hours, it also leads to traffic congestion as the trolleys block the pathway.
The current proposal states faster retrieval of trolleys from this area at a gap of 10 minutes," said another officer.
Alternative exit routes, faster parking formalities, and directional signage are also among other suggested improvements to reduce delays in the parking lot. "A public address system will be introduced in the parking lot to relay real-time traffic and parking information to motorists. That is also likely to cut down on traffic chaos outside the airport terminal," said the officer.

Flights to 3 cities from Nagpur discontinued
Nagpur: In times when Nagpur airport is set for a transformation, flights to three destinations from the city — Lucknow, Nashik, and Kolhapur — have been discontinued. Star Air, which introduced a flight to Kolhapur, withdrew the service within two months of its introduction. It was learnt that the service was discontinued due to poor response. The passenger load was inadequate, and most of the days, it remained half or even below than that which was far below viability levels, said airport sources. Flights to Nashik and Lucknow were operated by IndiGo Airlines. The airline cited 'operational reasons' as the cause for withdrawing the services, said the sources. Nagpur airport is currently run by Mihan India Limited (MIL), a joint venture between state govt's Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and Airports Authority of India (AAI). The airport is set to be taken over by GMR Group. The takeover hinges on the Union cabinet approving the transfer of AAI's assets to MIL. After that MIL will officially transfer the airport to GMR. There were plans to start flights to Jaipur, but no new flight has been introduced, said sources. During Covid pandemic, flight to Chennai was withdrawn, and the service has not been restarted yet. Sources in the aviation sector say the lack of aircraft with the operators has led to decisions on reducing flights from smaller centres. The next flight schedule is expected to be announced by airlines in October. The MIL has been insisting the airlines explore service to new sectors from Nagpur, said a source.

KSRTC buses, stations undergo transformation under waste free Kerala campaign
Thiruvananthapuram: Local self govt minister M B Rajesh said that as part of waste-free Kerala campaign, a remarkable transformation was taking place in KSRTC buses and bus stations. He was speaking at the inauguration of Haritha Sangamam —a one-day workshop, jointly organised by Haritha Keralam Mission and KSRTC on Wednesday. As part of the waste-free campaign, cleaning activities are conducted every Saturday in the offices of the transport department and bus stations. The minister also mentioned that bins were being installed inside the buses and waste was being processed accordingly. Transport minister Ganesh Kumar said it was essential for bus stations to be clean and KSRTC employees have been able to make this practical. "Bus stations are places with the highest footfall in a day. If such places are clean, our land will also be clean. By providing facilities like clean restaurants and restrooms, KSRTC has been able to regain passengers lost during the Covid-19 period," the minister said. On Aug 21 chief minister would flag-off of KSRTC vehicles with the best facilities available in the country. From $15,000 bond to $250 integrity fee: 5 major changes in US visa rules
The United States has rolled out a series of sweeping changes to its visa rules under President Donald Trump's renewed push for stricter immigration enforcement. From steep financial requirements to stricter scrutiny of family-based petitions, here are the five most significant updates affecting tourists, students, and aspiring immigrants: A new pilot program by the US State Department will require some tourists and business visa applicants to post a bond of $5,000 to $15,000 to be eligible for a US visa. The rule targets countries with high visa overstay rates and weak internal document controls. The 12-month program is intended to discourage visa violations and starts on August 20. The bond may be waived based on individual circumstances, but the list of affected countries will only be revealed once the policy takes effect. On Tuesday, the State Department confirmed that visitors from Zambia and Malawi would be the first to be targeted under the new policy. Effective 2026, all non-immigrant visa applicants—including B-1/B-2 (tourist/business), F and M (student), H-1B (work), and J (exchange)—will have to pay a $250 Visa Integrity Fee. This new surcharge is pegged to inflation and acts as a refundable security deposit only if visitors leave on time or adjust their status properly. Diplomatic visa holders (A and G categories) are exempt. Failure to meet the strict refund conditions means the fee will be forfeited to the US Treasury. The $250 fee will be levied in addition to the $185 cost of the nonimmigrant visa itself. The fee will not apply to most visitors from Canada or to visitors covered by the United States' visa-waiver program, which includes much of Europe and a handful of countries in the Middle East, Asia and elsewhere. The cost of a US tourist/business visa for Indian applicants is expected to nearly triple—from around $185 (₹15,855) to about $472 (₹40,456)—when all the new surcharges take effect. This includes the $250 Integrity Fee, $24 I-94 fee, and other charges. While these new rules aim to curb visa abuse, critics warn they could discourage genuine applicants, increase costs disproportionately, and burden legal immigrants.
