Passport Seva portal down: Services across India disrupted as applicants face long delays
Passport Seva Portal
experienced widespread server issues on Thursday and Friday, disrupting operations at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) across India. Multiple users in cities such as Delhi, Bhopal, and Thane took to X to report last-minute appointment cancellations and long delays.
Many people across major cities reported reaching PSKs only to find the centres non-functional. '@passportsevamea the website/app isn't working... we know that you don't want to travel seeing the conditions around but still I want to renew my passport so kindly make your WEBSITE WORK.. Thanks," X user Abhishek Rathore posted on the social media website.

"@passportsevamea Message received "Dear Applicant, your appointment for PSK/POPSK has been suspended due to Technical issue. Request you to reschedule appointment as per your convenience. -PassportSP". Is the passport office going to pay me a penalty for this instance?," X user Darshil said, expressing his frustration.

X users also claimed there were no dates available for rescheduling in the next few weeks, instead the next available date being months later.
"Had an appointment for passport 2morrow morning for my kids and 2nd time in 2 months they asked to reschedule the appointment due to technical issues @passportsevamea. At 12.00 am we received the msg and they want people to stay here.. Their app too is not working," Mehul Kothari, an applicant, posted on X.

Last minute cancellations also caused confusion and further distress for applicants with upcoming travel plans. Rahul Sharma, who had applied for his son's passport before a planned trip to the US next year, said, 'The last-minute cancellation of my passport appointment is putting our trip to the US next year in serious trouble. I had applied for my son's passport so we could all attend my daughter's graduation, but without it I can't even begin the visa process. With long US visa wait times, the delays make it very difficult to plan anything.'
In many cases, applicants got the information about the server outage only once they reached the PSK. "The passport seva kendra pasted a notice due to a technical issue unable to process a request. No SMS, email or ph call regarding this to applicant ...even people came to reach only after seva kendra. Gate is locked & no one is available," X user Vidya Nand Rai shared the notice posted in the Ghaziabad centre.

The repeated outages left applicants facing uncertainty, especially those with time-sensitive travel plans. Parents, business travellers, and others awaiting passports raised complaints about wasted time and mounting travel disruptions.
Despite the widespread outage, neither the
Ministry of External Affairs
nor the official @passportsevamea account on X has issued a public statement on the issue as of Friday morning.
This is not the first disruption of its kind. A similar server issue occurred in April, which forced PSKs across the country to suspend services for two days, triggering delays and last-minute cancellations.

Consumer body demands better facilities at Coimbatore Passport Seva Kendra
Citizens' Voice Coimbatore, a consumer rights organisation, has called for urgent improvements at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) near Airport Junction in the city. In a letter to the Regional Passport Officer, the group appreciated the staff's efficient service, but flagged the absence of a proper waiting hall, shelter, restrooms, and drinking water, forcing applicants to wait outdoors. The absence of parking for visitors was highlighted as a pressing concern. Applicants are reportedly compelled to park on nearby roads, where vehicles are fined for unauthorised parking. The body recommended that the passport office coordinate with the police department to allow short-term parking for applicants without obstructing traffic flow. Terming the location inconvenient for elderly applicants and those using public transport, the group suggested handling renewal and Tatkal cases at a central venue such as the Coimbatore Municipal Complex in Uppilipalayam while retaining PSK for new applications. The body stressed that Coimbatore, as Tamil Nadu's second most important city, should have a passport facility with adequate amenities to ensure a dignified applicant experience

Mobile van brings passport services closer to applicants
1 2 Pune: Want to get your passport without visiting a Passport Seva Kendra? People across Pune's 12-district jurisdiction can now book an appointment at a mobile passport van — a new service that brings passport application facilities directly to select locations, including universities and remote areas. All they need to do is visit the passport India website, choose "RPO Mobile Van" as the application centre , and arrive at the scheduled location with the necessary documents. The initiative — launched for the first time in the Pune RPO (regional passport office) jurisdiction — aims to reduce travel burdens and improve access to passport services for students, senior citizens, and residents in underserved areas. "The move aims at improving last-mile delivery of passport services via the van, which is a fully equipped unit that will travel across its 12-district jurisdiction to bring essential services closer to citizens," said Arjun Deore, regional passport officer, Pune. It will make its second stop at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), catering to students and staff who often face delays or travel burdens while applying for passports. After a pilot run at the RPO Baner office, the van will be scheduled to visit colleges and underserved areas in the coming weeks. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like DNA Discovery Reveals Truth About Native Americans Daily Sport X Undo "This initiative is about accessibility. By taking passport services to people's doorsteps — especially students, the elderly and those in remote areas — we aim to reduce travel time, streamline the process and ensure timely issuance," Deore said. He said that the mobile unit is an addition to Pune RPO's existing network of 19 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and post office PSKs, and is part of a broader effort to improve citizen services under the ministry of external affairs' outreach strategy. "The upcoming deployment at SPPU is significant, given the large volume of students who need passports for overseas education, internships, and conferences. We wanted to start with students, many of whom are first-time applicants. When these students later need a passport for higher education or international programmes, they'll already be prepared," Deore said. The van offers full application services, including submission — reducing dependence on fixed centres and cutting down on waiting times. Deore said, "We are committed to making passport services more accessible to every citizen. By bringing the services directly to the community through the mobile passport van, we aim to ease the application process and ensure timely passport issuance with minimal inconvenience. " The schedule and locations for the mobile passport van will be announced regularly, covering major educational institutions and remote areas of various districts. This will help applicants avail passport services without the need to travel long distances, he said. He said that even residents within Pune city can avail of this service and appointments can be booked through the passport India website. People can track its movement on Pune RPO's official handle on X (@rpopune) or visit [ for updates.
