Italy and the Netherlands qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026

Italy won the toss and elected to bat first, posting a competitive 134/7 at the end of their allotted overs. Their top contributors were number six and seven batters, Ben Manenti (30) and Grant Stewart (25), with Roelof van der Merwe the pick of the Netherlands' bowlers, returning a Player of the Match winning three wickets for 15 runs.
In reply, openers Max O'Dowd (47 not out) and Michael Levitt (34), put on 71 runs for the opening stand, including 66 runs in the powerplay. Levitt's was the only wicket to fall in the eighth over before captain, Scott Edwards (37 not out), entered the fray, adding a 64-run partnership for the third wicket to get their side to victory and the Men's T20 World Cup.
In the other fixture of the day, Jersey beat Scotland for the first time, but their excitement could not last as they received news of Italy confirming their place in the 15th over of their match against the Netherlands.
Scotland posted 133/7 in their 20 overs after being put into bat first by Jersey. It was another case of the middle and lower orders to the rescue when they found themselves on 64 for six in the 11th over before Matthew Cross (43 not out) and Mark Watt (28) top scored for their side, securing a respectable total.
Harrison Carlyon and Benjamin Ward were the dangermen with the ball in hand with Carlyon taking three wickets for 26 runs and Ward two for 24.
Jersey's reply got off to a good start in spite of the early loss of Carlyon for 15 in the third over. Nick Greenwood smashed 49 runs from 36 deliveries to help their side to 81 in the 12th over before he was trapped lbw by Chris Greaves (two for 26).
After the fall of Greenwood's wicket, Jersey suffered a batting collapse that saw them lose eight wickets for 48 runs. In the end, they needed five runs from four deliveries and captain Charles Perchard (one not out) and Jake Dunford (four not out) held their nerves to clinch their historic win off the final delivery of the match.

Extreme skydiver Felix Baumgartner dies in paragliding accident in Italy

Extreme sports pioneer Felix Baumgartner died on Thursday in a paragliding accident in central Italy. Baumgartner, 56, lost control of his motorised paraglider while flying over Porto Sant'Elpidio in the Marche region and fell to the ground near a hotel swimming pool. The reasons for the accident were unclear. He was best known for a record-breaking 2012 skydive from the edge of space. He was the first skydiver to fall faster than the speed of sound, after jumping from an altitude of 39km. Porto Sant'Elpidio Mayor Massimiliano Ciarpella said reports suggested Baumgartner may have suffered a sudden medical issue and offered the town's condolences for the death of "a symbol of courage and passion for extreme flights". The Mayor confirmed Baumgartner's death in a social media post. 'Our community is deeply affected by the tragic disappearance of Felix Baumgartner, a figure of global prominence, a symbol of courage and passion for extreme flight," he said. Baumgartner, known as 'Fearless Felix", stunned the world in 2012 when wore a pressurised suit and jumped from a capsule carried high above Earth by a giant helium balloon. The Austrian, who was part of the Red Bull Stratos team, reached a speed of 1,357kph – 1.25 times the speed of sound – during a nine-minute descent. At one point during the feat, he went into a potentially dangerous flat spin while still supersonic, spinning for 13 seconds, his crew said. 'When I was standing there on top of the world, you become so humble, you do not think about of breaking records any more, you do not think of about gaining scientific data. The only thing you want is to come back alive,' he said after landing in the eastern New Mexico desert. The stunt also marked the highest altitude for a skydiver, shattering the previous record set in 1960 by Joe Kittinger, who served as an adviser to Baumgartner. The altitude record stood for two years until Google executive Alan Eustace achieved the highest freefall jump and greatest freefall distance, leaping from an altitude of 41.4km. In 2012, millions watched the livestream on YouTube as Baumgartner coolly flashed a thumbs-up when he came out of the capsule high above Earth. He raised his arms in victory after landing. Baumgartner, a former Austrian military parachutist, made thousands of jumps from planes, bridges, skyscrapers and landmarks, including the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil. In 2003, he flew across the English Channel using a carbon fibre wing after being dropped from a plane. In recent years, he performed with The Flying Bulls as a helicopter stunt pilot in shows across Europe. Baumgartner said after his jump in 2012 that travelling faster than sound was 'hard to describe, because you don't feel it". 'Sometimes we have to get really high to see how small we are,' he added.

Daredevil space diver Felix Baumgartner dies in paragliding accident

Austrian extreme sports pioneer Felix Baumgartner, famed for a record-breaking 2012 skydive from the edge of space, died on Thursday in a paragliding accident in central Italy, local police said. He was 56. Baumgartner lost control of his motorised paraglider while flying over Porto Sant'Elpidio in Italy's central Marche region, and fell to the ground near the swimming pool of a hotel. The reasons for the accident were unclear. Porto Sant'Elpidio's mayor, Massimiliano Ciarpella, said reports suggested he may have suffered a sudden medical issue mid-air, and offered the town's condolences for the death of "a symbol of courage and passion for extreme flights." The Austrian made headlines around the world in October 2012 when, wearing a specially made suit, he jumped from a balloon 24 miles (38 km) above Earth, becoming the first skydiver to break the sound barrier, typically measured at more than 690 mph. He made the historic jump over Roswell, New Mexico, reaching a peak speed of over 833 mph (1,343 kph), on the 65th anniversary of legendary American pilot Chuck Yeager's flight shattering the sound barrier on October 14, 1947. The self-styled "God of the Skies" started parachuting as a teenager before taking up the extreme sport of BASE jumping. His long career of daredevil jumps included skydiving across the English Channel and parachuting off the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. In Austria he was also known for courting controversy with views that included expressing support for dictatorship as a system of government. Baumgartner was fined 1,500 euros after he punched a Greek truck driver in the face during a 2010 altercation that broke out in a traffic jam near Salzburg.
