Celebrating 11 years of good governance under Modi
Puttaparthi: A grand intellectual meet was held on Tuesday at the district headquarters of Sri Sathya Sai to commemorate 11 Years of Good Governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The event, organised under the leadership of district BJP president GM Shekhar, witnessed participation from several prominent leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Paka Venkata Satyanarayana and former MLA Kapu Ramachandra Reddy, who graced the occasion as chief guests. Addressing the gathering, the leaders highlighted that exactly 11 years ago, a visionary leader, Narendra Damodardas Modi, assumed office as the Prime Minister of India, ushering in a new era in Indian politics. Since then, the country has been on a rapid path of development under his leadership. They emphasized that PM Modi's governance over the past 11 years has been marked by bold decisions and revolutionary welfare policies that transformed the trajectory of the nation.
Rising from a humble background, Modi's firsthand experience of poverty inspired people-centric policies. His administration has brought unprecedented changes, many of which were once considered unimaginable. Among the key milestones mentioned were the Balakot air strikes in retaliation to the 2019 Pulwama terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor in April 2025, carried out in response to a terror strike in Pahalgam.
These actions demonstrated India's firm stance against terrorism, sending a clear message that those who plot destruction will face consequences.
They acknowledged the government's commitment to placing India among the leading global nations through structural reforms and numerous welfare initiatives. The event saw active participation from state-level leaders, including BJP Yuva Morcha State President Mitta Vamshi Krishna, Dalit Morcha State President Gudise Devanand, State Executive Members Ramesh Reddy and Anjaneyulu and many others.

Addressing reporters, Carney highlighted that Modi and India's presence at the G7 Summit "is a reflection of the size of the Indian economy, the dynamism of the Indian economy, Indian technology, the leadership position India plays in a host of venues from G20 and beyond." The G7 Summit 2025 marks PM Modi's sixth consecutive participation in the group of seven meetings as well as the prime minister's first visit to Canada in a decade. PM Modi's visit to Canada comes amid his three nation tour. The first stop was Cyprus, where the BJP leader was conferred with the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, which is the highest civilian order of the country. After Canada, the prime minister will be headed to Croatia.

Hindi to be ‘generally' taught third language in Maharashtra schools
The Maharashtra government on Tuesday issued an order making Hindi a 'generally' taught third language for students from Class 1 to Class 5 in Marathi and English medium schools, PTI reported. According to the amended order, if 20 students per grade in a school wish to study any other Indian language, they can opt out of Hindi. If such a demand arises, either a teacher will be appointed or the language will be taught online, the news agency quoted the order as stating. The Maharashtra School Education Department issued the government resolution as part of implementing the 'State Curriculum Framework for School Education 2024', which aligns with the 2020 National Education Policy, PTI reported. While Hindi is not mandatory, Marathi will remain a compulsory language in all medium schools, according to the resolution. On April 16, the Maharashtra government had announced plans to implement the 2020 National Education Policy from the academic year 2025-'26. This made Hindi compulsory as the third language for students of Class 1 to Class 5 in Marathi and English medium schools, replacing their existing two-language structure with the three-language formula. On April 20, a language consultation committee appointed by the Maharashtra government opposed the decision to make Hindi a mandatory third language in primary schools. On April 22, the government stayed its April 16 order. The new directives said that while the three-language policy would still take effect, students would no longer be required to study Hindi as their third language. The three-language formula refers to teaching students English, Hindi and the native language of a state. It was introduced in the first National Education Policy in 1968 and was retained in the new policy introduced in 2020. Backlash to new order The government resolution passed on Tuesday received backlash from Marathi language advocates who accused the government of reintroducing the policy through the ' backdoor ' after initially backtracking, PTI reported. Vasant Kalpande, the former chairman of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, told PTI that it is unlikely to find 20 students in a class opting for a non-Hindi language. 'The provision to make teacher available online is also an attempt to discourage opting for any other language than Hindi,' the news agency quoted him as saying. Hindi as a third language is not mandatory in Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled Gujarat and Assam, Kalpande added. Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal accused Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of 'stabbing' the Marathi people, stating that the fresh government order on the three-language formula was a planned plot to impose Hindi.

India, Canada to revive trade talks as Modi meets Carney at G7; EU free trade pact likely by year-end
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Wednesday agreed to revive the stalled trade talks between the two countries. The two leaders met for the first time since Carney took office following Canada's recent elections. The meeting, held on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, marked a step toward repairing a relationship that had seen several months of diplomatic chill. Both sides underscored the need to resume negotiations on the Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA) and take it forward with the objective of concluding a broader Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), as per a press note issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). Modi and Carney reaffirmed their commitment to shared democratic values and sovereignty, and agreed to restore normal diplomatic presence, including the early return of High Commissioners to each other's capitals, as per the PMO statement. They also highlighted the need to restart senior ministerial and working-level engagements to build trust and momentum, the PMO said in the statement. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in areas such as clean energy, critical minerals, LNG, artificial intelligence, higher education, food security, mobility and digital transformation. Both the leaders reiterated support for a free and open Indo-Pacific and acknowledged the progress made at the G7 on global issues including climate action and sustainable growth. India-Canada relations took a sharp downturn in 2023 after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of involvement in the killing of a Khalistani separatist. India rejected the allegations as politically motivated and expelled Canadian diplomats, prompting reciprocal action from Ottawa. Bilateral ties froze, trade talks were paused, and visa services were briefly suspended. The recent meeting between PM Modi and new Canadian PM Mark Carney signals the first steps toward thawing the strained a separate joint press briefing with the President of Cyprus, Prime Minister Modi drew parallels between India's 'Viksit Bharat 2047' vision and Cyprus's 'Vision 2035,' and called for a five-year roadmap to deepen bilateral ties. The two countries agreed to strengthen defence industry collaboration, initiate dialogues on cyber and maritime security, and set up a real-time information exchange mechanism to combat terrorism and cross-border crimes. Meanwhile, in a joint press briefing with the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, Modi reiterated that the India-EU FTA would be concluded by the end of this year. He had made a similar statement during his Cyprus visit on 16 June prior to the G7 Summit. Cyprus also reaffirmed its support for India's bid for permanent membership in a reformed UN Security Council and agreed to enhance cooperation in defence, cyber and maritime security, as well as set up a mechanism for real-time intelligence sharing to counter terrorism, drug trafficking and arms smuggling. Modi said initiatives like the India-Cyprus-Greece Business and Investment Council and new mobility and air connectivity arrangements would help deepen economic linkages with the Mediterranean region.
