Pacers Make Major Tyrese Haliburton Announcement on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It was already expected, but Indiana Pacers president of basketball operations Kevin Pritchard announced news on Monday that his fans were hoping they wouldn't hear.

Pritchard confirmed that star point guard Tyrese Haliburton would miss the entire 2025-26 season after tearing his Achilles in a 103-91 loss of the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the NBA Finals last month.
Haliburton is the latest in a long line of NBA stars to suffer Achilles tears this season — a list that also includes Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum, former Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard, New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray, Pacers center James Wiseman, and Miami Heat guard Dru Smith.
Tatum and Lillard both suffered their injuries in the postseason as well.

'I have no doubt that he will be back better than ever,' Pritchard said. 'The surgery went well. It was a little higher, he gets a little bit more to that. He will not play next year, though. We would not jeopardize that now.

'Don't get any hopes up that he will play, but again, we'll have some guys and hopefully they'll have some opportunities to grow, and when he gets back, that'll be the cherry on top.'
Haliburton had surgery on his Achilles on June 23. Before his injury, Haliburton was one of Indiana's key catalysts in its NBA Finals run.
The 25-year-old guard averaged 17.3 points, 8.4 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game in 23 postseason contests.
He averaged 21 points and 10.5 assists per game in the Pacers' Eastern Conference final win over the New York Knicks, and 17.4 points and 7.0 assists per game in the conference semifinal win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Haliburton's absence won't be the only one affecting the Pacers next season. Center Myles Turner signed a lucrative four-year, $107 million contract with the Milwaukee Bucks at the start of free agency.

Marcus Smart is coming to the Lakers after agreeing to contract buyout

The Los Angeles Lakers have made a couple of solid additions to their roster this summer by signing 3-point sniper Jake LaRavia and center Deandre Ayton, a former No. 1 overall pick. But while they possess plenty of offensive firepower, they have looked rather weak defensively. But the latter may not actually be the case this coming season. On Saturday, guard Marcus Smart agreed to a buyout of his contract with the Washington Wizards, and he is going to be joining the Lakers. His new contract will reportedly pay him $11 million over two years and include a player option for the 2026-27 season. Via ESPN: "Guard Marcus Smart has agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards and plans to sign a two-year, $11 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers after clearing waivers, sources told ESPN on Saturday," wrote Shams Charania. "Smart, the 2022 Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-Defense first-team member, will have a player option on his new Lakers deal to enter a more flush 2026 free agency, sources said." Smart, 31, has long been one of the NBA's premier defensive guards. He spent his first nine seasons with the Boston Celtics, where he made three All-Defensive first teams and appeared in the Eastern Conference finals five times. He was a key reason Boston reached the NBA Finals in 2022. Since leaving Boston in 2023, he has appeared in just 54 games over the last two seasons. But with career averages of 10.6 points, 4.6 assists and 1.6 steals, he should be a very solid addition for L.A., as long as he remains relatively healthy. One thing Smart will need to do better is hit from the outside. For his career, he has made just 32.4% of his 3-point attempts, although he was at a decent 34.8% this past season.

Report: G Marcus Smart agrees to buyout with Wizards, plans to join Lakers

Former NBA Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart has agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards and intends to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, ESPN reported on Saturday. A three-time first-team all-defense selection, Smart will reportedly ink a two-year, $11 million deal with the Lakers after clearing waivers. The new contract will include a player option that could allow the guard to enter free agency in 2026. According to ESPN, Lakers All-Star Luka Doncic contacted Smart and expressed his desire to play with the two-way player, who averaged a career-low 20 minutes per game last season, a campaign that was hampered by an injury to a finger on his right shooting hand. Smart was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies prior to the 2023-24 season and played in 19 games before he was again moved to the Wizards (15 games) in February. He averaged 9.0 points and 3.2 assists overall. While injuries have limited Smart to a combined 54 games over the past two seasons, he has proven his value throughout his career. While with the Boston Celtics, Smart was part of postseason-qualifying teams in each of his first nine seasons in the NBA, including when he helped Boston reach the NBA Finals in 2022, the year in which Smart was named Defensive Player of the Year. Since joining the NBA as the No. 6 overall pick in 2014, Smart has averaged 10.6 points on 38.8 percent shooting, including a 32.4 percent clip from 3-point range. Of course, he is mostly known for his defense, as demonstrated by a career average of 1.6 steals per game. He is six steals away from having 1,000 for his career. Per ESPN, the Lakers plan to waive guard Shake Milton to free up a roster spot for Smart. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved
