The duo carried the wreaths amid applause and Jota chants from the packed Anfield crowd, before laying them down in front of goal at the Kop end.
The tribute marks the Reds' first return to their home since Jota's sad passing in early July.
A similar tribute from a Liverpool legend has also been performed at each of Liverpool's past two fixtures, during their Asia pre-season tour.
Sir Kenny Dalglish laid a wreath in Hong Kong ahead of their contest with AC Milan, while Ian Rush took on the responsibility in the build-up to their friendly with Yokohama in Japan.
Jota and his brother were driving in northern Spain last month when a blowout reportedly caused the Portuguese star to lose control of his Lamborghini and veer off the road.
The incident left the football world in mourning with tributes pouring in for the 28-year-old from all corners of the globe.
Liverpool have since retired his number 20 shirt at the club in his honour.
There were concerns ahead of the game that the match and its heartfelt tribute would not be able to go ahead at all.
Parts of Anfield had to be evacuated less than an hour before kick-off due to a an emergency alarm.
A club statement read: "Shortly before 15:50pm there was a false alarm in the Anfield Main Stand, leading to supporters in that area of the stadium to be temporarily evacuated."

There was no delay to kick-off in the end and the plans went ahead uninterrupted.
Fans did not have to wait long once the game kicked off, with youngster Rio Ngumoha opening the scoring inside two minutes with a beautiful curling strike.
Darwin Nunez would double their advantage minutes later, making a heart symbol in celebration.
Nunez previously honoured former team-mate Jota by mimicking his signature celebration after scoring in a friendly last month.

Jorge Costa dead aged 53 as tributes pour in for Porto legend and Jose Mourinho's Champions League winning captain

Former defender Costa has died at the age of 53 after suffering a cardiac arrest at the club's training ground in Olival, according to reports Jorge Costa, Jose Mourinho 's Champions League-winning skipper at FC Porto in 2004, has passed away at the tender age of just 53. ‌ It's believed Costa, who served as Porto 's director of football, collapsed from a heart attack at the club's Olival training facility according to Portuguese reports. ‌ Costa began his footballing journey at Porto and made a remarkable 383 appearances for the club, claiming 24 honours during his time there - including that unforgettable Champions League victory in the 2003-04 season and the UEFA Cup triumph the previous year. ‌ He also enjoyed a stint in the Premier League after joining Charlton Athletic on loan during the 2001-02 season. The defender featured 26 times for the Addicks under manager Alan Curbishley. Following his departure from Porto, Costa went on to manage several European sides before returning to his beloved club as director of football last year, reports the Mirror. Porto announced his passing on Tuesday through a heartfelt message on Twitter, describing him as "a symbol" of the institution. "Jorge Costa has left us," their statement declared. "One of us, a leader, captain, example. A symbol of FC Porto. Thank you for being FC Porto until the end. Forever, Jorge Costa." Tributes immediately flooded in from across Portuguese football, with Porto's city rivals Sporting Lisbon also honouring Costa's memory. Their tribute read: "Sporting Clube de Portugal expresses its sorrow for the passing of Jorge Costa, football director of FC Porto and former Portuguese international." ‌ Sporting Clube de Portugal has expressed its profound sorrow at the passing of a notable figure in FC Porto and Portuguese football, extending its deepest sympathies to his loved ones. Liga Portugal also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to Costa's family, highlighting the ex-player's "fighting spirit and leadership". ‌ The statement read: "In this moment of grief, Liga Portugal extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, FC Porto, and all those who shared his passion for football. One day, we were losing a match against a team called Belenenses, we were down 2-0 at halftime. ‌ "I was walking to the locker room, and everyone saw I was furious. "When I was about to enter, Jorge Costa told me, 'Wait outside for two minutes, please.' He went in, closed the door, and did the dirty work for me. "Then he opened the door and said, 'Coach us.' Because in the locker room, he did everything I would have done. "We won 3-2. He was a centre-back, had never scored goals in his life; that day, he scored two. Captain and leader are very different things. "You can't buy leaders. You can't manufacture leaders. And when you have them, your team is one step ahead."

Who are the surprise Premier League leaders in the race to sign Rodrygo?

Our expert analyses a potential summer move for Rodrygo to the Premier League. The Brazilian is 6/4 to join Liverpool, 7/2 to sign for Spurs and 4/1 to move to PSG before the end of the transfer window with Sky Bet. Already a Sky Bet member? Check out more free bets from the best betting sites, reviewed by our experts. Real uncertainty surrounds Rodrygo With Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres, Liverpool snapping up Hugo Ekitike and strongly linked with a move for Alexander Isak, and both Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha joining Manchester United, it has been a busy summer for transfers involving forwards in the Premier League. Real Madrid ace Rodrygo is the latest to be linked with a switch to the English top flight with Liverpool, the perhaps surprising 6/4 favourites with Sky Bet to secure his signature. Rodrygo was a first-team regular under former manager Carlo Ancelotti but there have been signs that may not be the case under new boss Xabi Alonso. The 24-year-old winger made just three appearances at this summer's Club World Cup with Alonso initially favouring a 4-3-1-2 formation and deploying two of Gonzalo Garcia, Vinicius Junior or Kylian Mbappe up top. That said, there have been suggestions that Rodrygo may want to stay put in Madrid and he could yet sign a new deal to quash rumours of a move away. 🚨 Rodrygo is IN LOVE with Real Madrid. He would be happy to stay & FIGHT for his place. He is NOT desperate to leave. If a TOP team arrives later & offers him an important contract & to be their star, we'll see, but this is NOT the case so far. @FabrizioRomano @DAZNFutbol — Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) August 4, 2025 Premier League clubs size up Brazilian If Real Madrid deem Rodrygo surplus to requirements, there are a handful of clubs keen on signing him. Tottenham Hotspur are 7/2 shots to be his next destination, with PSG and Any Saudi Pro League Club both priced at 4/1. A switch to Arsenal, meanwhile, is a touch bigger at 9/2. Spurs could be an interesting one. Their Europa League triumph last season means they can offer Rodrygo Champions League football, which is surely an imperative for the Brazilian. It would be a real statement signing under Thomas Frank, who is set to lose forward Son Heung-min this summer. It is no secret that Arsenal fans want more attacking options for the club to seriously compete for the title and, although it would involve switching flanks, Rodrygo could form a devastating Gunners front line with Gyokeres and Bukayo Saka. But it is Liverpool who are the most likely Premier League destination for him, despite Arne Slot's side having already spent heavily this summer. Check out our season preview and outright tips for the Championship or read about our best Premier League season handicap bets Liverpool continue forward thinking Florian Wirtz was Liverpool's marquee signing for £116million from Bayer Leverkusen, while the Reds further bolstered their attacking options by signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79m. They appear to still be in the hunt for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, who would also set the club back more than £100m, so can they really be expected to sign Rodrygo as well? Although he played on the right wing at Madrid, Rodrygo could be viewed as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz, who has moved to Bayern Munich, and would be a more viable option to play on the wing than Ekitike, who is better suited to playing down the middle. But Rodrygo has also been identified as a potential alternative to Isak, meaning the Brazilian could play through the middle himself if a move to Anfield materialises, and it is more likely a case of one or the other, rather than the Merseysiders signing both players. Rodrygo to sign for before September 2, 2025 – Odds Liverpool @ 6/4 Tottenham Hotspur @ 7/2 PSG @ 4/1 Any Saudi Pro League club @ 4/1 Arsenal @ 9/2 Chelsea @ 6/1 Manchester City @ 6/1 Manchester United @ 16/1 Newcastle United @ 16/1 Odds courtesy of Sky Bet.
