Delhi to unveil Logistics Policy 2025 to ease traffic and cut pollution
Delhi is gearing up for a major overhaul of its freight and supply chain network , with the government preparing to launch its 'Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2025', a move aimed at decongesting the city, reducing pollution, and improving trade efficiency, The Times of India reported.The draft policy envisions a city where dedicated logistics hubs, green freight corridors , and technology-driven solutions streamline goods movement. Delhi currently handles 10 lakh tonnes of freight daily through 1.93 lakh vehicles, nearly a fifth of which are merely passing through. Trucks transporting building materials, textiles, fruits and vegetables, and food products dominate freight movement, while even pharmaceuticals and automobiles contribute to the daily gridlock. The absence of organized warehousing zones forces these vehicles into the heart of the city, clogging arterial roads and worsening air quality.Industries minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the draft aims to change that by relocating warehouses to the city's periphery and consolidating freight at modern Urban Consolidation and Logistics Distribution Centres (UCLDCs). "These measures will cut vehicular emissions and reduce congestion at hotspots like Azadpur, Ghazipur, Naraina and Karol Bagh, delivering a significant win for air quality," he told TOI. Last-mile deliveries, he added, would increasingly be shifted to electric and CNG vehicles.The policy is anchored around 16 key action points, with measures such as 24/7 operations at logistics parks (enabled through amendments to the Model Shops Act), a digital delivery management system , and designated commercial parking areas with loading bays developed under the PPP model. UCLDCs will consolidate cargo to reduce trips, while clean fuel vehicles will ensure sustainable last-mile delivery.Sirsa said the policy also addresses chronic bottlenecks like truck parking shortages and outdated freight handling, paving the way for an efficient, eco-friendly supply chain. To support industry players, it proposes subsidies and incentives, including land lease discounts for traders relocating warehouses out of congested zones, financial aid for upgrading cold chains and storage facilities, and green energy incentives such as solar-powered warehouses and energy-efficient designs.Developed by the Department of Industries, the policy ties into the National Logistics Policy , integrating advanced technology and regulatory reforms to transform Delhi's logistics landscape. If implemented effectively, it could reshape how goods move in the capital, easing traffic and cutting pollution while making business operations smoother.

Nagpur up 5 spots in swachh ranking after NMC's appeal
Nagpur: The city's ranking in the Swachh Bharat Survekshan improved following an appeal by the civic body. The Union ministry of housing and urban affairs has now placed Nagpur at rank 22A (out of 40), up from its earlier position of 27. Nagpur's state ranking also saw a rise — from 29 to 25A out of 414 urban local bodies in Maharashtra. The city's overall score now stands at 9,836 out of 12,500, up from the previous 9,328, additional municipal commissioner Vasumana Pant told TOI. To a query, Pant explained that since Nashik already held the 22nd rank, Nagpur has been assigned 22A to reflect its equal standing. As a result, the 27th position in the national ranking list now remains vacant, the Swachh Survekshan results website stated. The improvement followed NMC's detailed representation under the guidance of Chaudhari, pointing out discrepancies in the initial assessment. "We highlighted major mismatches in legacy data related to daily waste collection and vehicle tracking over the past three years. After verification, a fresh site visit was conducted, and our claims were accepted," said Pant. Key metrics show substantial progress. Door-to-door waste collection surged from 30% to 90%, while segregation at source improved dramatically from 1% to 60%. However, waste processing, which was earlier marked at 100%, was revised to 60% following a stricter re-evaluation. The city has now also earned one star under the Garbage-Free City (GFC) certification — a benchmark it failed to achieve earlier this year. The NMC objected to this categorisation, insisting that Nagpur should have been evaluated in the million-plus category. Major recent initiatives include the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, Backlane Cleanliness Drive, compressed biogas facility, C&D waste plant, and biomining project at Bhandewadi. Citizen-led programs like 'One Date, One Hour', Swachh Mohalla, Clean Market initiatives, Eco Bricks, and awareness campaigns in schools have further boosted community participation. In a statement, Chaudhari said Nagpur's progress was acknowledged in a recent central govt report for its participatory initiatives. He added that NMC now aims to push for a Top 10 rank in upcoming surveys by intensifying cleanliness efforts across all zones.

TCS to roll out hikes for majority of staff from Sept 1
Bengaluru: TCS, which is planning to cut 2% of its workforce—over 12,000 mid and senior employees—this year, surprised its staff by announcing salary hikes for eligible associates up to grade C3A and equivalent (freshers to mid-level), covering nearly 80% of its workforce. This comes at a time when many of its peers have either deferred salary hikes or placed them on hold. The salary hike will be effective from Sept 1, according to an internal communication sent out by CHRO Milind Lakkad and CHRO-designate K Sudeep on Wednesday. When TOI reached out to TCS, the company said, "We can confirm that we will be issuing wage hikes to around 80% of our employees effective Sept 1, 2025." During the April earnings presser, TCS indicated that it might have to defer its annual increments, a rare deviation from its April cycle, coinciding with clients' downbeat sentiment emerging from a slowdown and tariff-related uncertainty. Even in the June quarter earnings, Lakkad said the company has not made any decision yet regarding wage hikes. TCS's June quarter results reflected lacklustre performance attributed to weak macroeconomic conditions, cautious client sentiment, delayed decision-making, and the winding down of the BSNL deal. Its revenue for the June quarter fell 3.1% year-on-year in constant currency and 3.3% sequentially, as geopolitical uncertainties dampened demand. News of this year's salary increase comes amid a challenging period marked by cautious client spending and delayed decisions in key markets like the US and Europe. Nevertheless, the company remains optimistic about a turnaround, anticipating stronger demand in the second half of the year. Indian IT CEOs have adopted a cautious tone in their commentary on wage hikes. When TOI asked Infosys CEO Salil Parekh about the timelines for wage hikes, he said, "We concluded our compensation increases for Q4 and Q1 of the last fiscal year….Now that this cycle is complete, we are beginning to evaluate the timing for the next round—as we do after every cycle. During Covid, the standard cycle was disrupted, leading to two increases over 18 months. There are no changes planned. We will stick with our existing process and announce the next cycle at the right time."
