‘Hong Kong taxis to be barred from High Island Reservoir hotspot at peak times'

An insider told the Post on Monday that taxis would be barred from entering Sai Kung Man Yee Road between 9am and 6pm to 'effectively reduce road traffic in rush hours' during weekends, public holidays and mainland China's 'golden week' breaks from September 13.
The East Dam has become a hotspot among mainland visitors thanks to coverage on social media platforms, with concerns being raised about the environmental impact after crowds of tourists flocked to the area during the five-day Labour Day 'golden week' in May.
Sai Kung Man Yee Road is the only road to and from the East Dam and West Dam. The reservoir can still be accessed via minibus No 9A.

The source said the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department would set up a security guard booth at the entrance of the road, while the Transport Department would monitor the needs of the passengers and step up the minibus services when necessary.

Hong Kong's Peninsula Hotels sees ‘bleisure' boom after pandemic curbs, CEO says
Hong Kong has welcomed a new wave of travellers combining business and leisure, who have revitalised the city's luxury hotel sector, according to Benjamin Vuchot, the executive director and CEO of Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels (HSH), operator of The Peninsula Hotels. 'The opportunity is primarily driven by business trips, but it evolves into leisure as well,' Vuchot said in an interview with the Post on Wednesday. 'That's a very important trend from a growth perspective.' He noted that what started as a two-day business meeting frequently transformed into a 'bleisure' stay, with guests extending their trips or arriving with family to explore the city. While 'bleisure' is a global phenomenon, it has been particularly pronounced in Hong Kong and Shanghai. As visitors returned to Hong Kong after years of pandemic-related travel restrictions, 'they want to stay longer – they want to reconnect with the city', Vuchot said. Photo: Jonathan Wong He highlighted an increase in international travellers, particularly from the Middle East, thanks to government efforts to strengthen business ties and attract investors from the region. 'We are benefiting from those efforts,' said Vuchot, who took the helm on March 3, succeeding Clement Kwok King-man. The iconic hospitality group reported an unaudited loss attributable to shareholders of HK$289 million (US$36.8 million) for the six months ending June 30, an improvement from a year-earlier loss of HK$448 million.

Chinese tourists offered visa-free entry to South Korea from September
South Korea has rolled out a temporary visa waiver programme for Chinese tour groups in the latest effort to help strengthen fragile ties. Advertisement From September 29, members of Chinese tour groups will be allowed to enter South Korea without a visa until June 30 next year, the office of Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said on Wednesday. It is the first time that South Korea has allowed travel visa exemptions for Chinese tour groups, regardless of point of entry. Previously, only Jeju Island offered such access, allowing group visitors visa-free stays of up to 30 days. South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok announced the visa-free programme on Wednesday. Chinese nationals made up the largest group of overseas tourists travelling to South Korea, with about 2.5 million arrivals in the first half of this year, The Korea Herald reported, citing the Korea Tourism Organisation. In November, Beijing announced a unilateral visa-free policy for South Koreans, allowing them to stay in China for up to 15 days until the end of this year.
