Viral video: Man eats KFC inside vegetarian restaurant run by ISKCON in London, sparks outrage

Indian Express5 hours ago
A video that surfaced across social media has triggered strong reactions after a man was seen eating chicken inside Govinda's, a vegetarian restaurant run by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in London.
The video, shows a man of African descent entering the premises and asking staff if meat was served. When informed that the eatery only offers vegetarian food, he pulled out a box of KFC chicken and began eating it inside the restaurant.
Footage shows the man standing at the counter while eating, and at one point offering the non-vegetarian food to other customers and staff members, which appeared to make several people uncomfortable. Despite being asked to leave by restaurant staff and patrons, the man continued eating before being removed from the premises by security.
The act drew widespread condemnation on social media. Many users questioned the motivation behind it, with some describing it as an intentional insult to Hindu dietary and religious values. One X user wrote, 'What should we call this? Racism or provocation?'
Horrendous. 😳😡
This African-British youth entered into ISKCON's Govinda restaurant – knowingly that it's pure Veg restaurant – asked if there's meat available, then pulled out his KFC box and not only ate chicken (chewed like a 🐷), but also offered others working/eating in… pic.twitter.com/TtPJz9Jg7m

Another said, 'He achieved nothing by harassing people! Zero achievement but created a nuisance in society.' A third commented, 'Hope the complaint was filed with police. Don't know if he can be arrested for this or not, but this is hate towards Hindus. He knew they wouldn't react, that's why he did this.'
Others questioned the response from those present, with one post reading, 'They're just smiling and filming. If you won't act, don't expect others to.' Another added, 'Intentionally breaking a religious rule like this shows intolerance — and society shouldn't ignore it.' A different user suggested the act was done for attention, writing, 'He did it just for two extra followers on YouTube.'
STRONGLY CONDEMN:
Man walks into ISKCON's Govinda, a pure veg restaurant, checks if it's vegetarian, then shamelessly stuffs his mouth with KFC chicken right on their counter!
Staff, customers ask him to leave but he keeps on chewing – just for 2 extra followers on YouTube.… pic.twitter.com/Pj1n0OzUTm

Indian rapper and singer Badshah took to X to slam the targeted disrespect to Hindus in London, posting, 'Even the chicken would be embarrassed. Dude wasn't hungry for chicken, he was hungry for some chappal on that face.'

ISKCON, a global spiritual organisation founded in 1966 by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, promotes Krishna consciousness and a vegetarian lifestyle based on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and Vedic scriptures. Its restaurants, including Govinda's, serve only pure vegetarian meals as part of its religious observance.
As of now, there is no confirmation of any formal complaint or police involvement.

‘Keep spreading the word': Tommy Robinson shares cryptic message on social media; urges people to assemble in London

Image: X@/TRobinsonNewEra Far-right British activist Tommy Robinson on Sunday shared a cryptic post calling people to assemble in London but gave no further details. 'The amount of people contacting me who are travelling from Ireland to London for September 13th is insane . We appreciate the support,' he posted on X. — TRobinsonNewEra (@TRobinsonNewEra) One user commented 'Train tickets are booked for me gf & friends. And more friends say they are coming. Keep spreading the word,' sharing a picture of them wearing a t-shirt that read 'September 13th London be there…enough is enough!!' Another user said 'What is there on September 13th in London?' 'Booked my tickets from Ireland yesterday. Meeting lads I've not seen for years. I wouldn't miss this for the world,' another user commented. Robinson previously posted 'the future belongs to patriots, nothing can stop what is coming.' It is unclear whether these two posts are related. 'Why is Tommy Robinson in a solitary confinement prison for telling the truth? He should be freed and those who covered up this travesty should take his place in that cell,' Musk said at the time. The 27-year-old, who has started every match for the reigning champions so far, announced she would be stepping away from social media to concentrate on the remainder of the competition. Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham confirmed the organization 'immediately contacted UK police" upon learning of the abuse. He emphasized that the FA is determined to ensure 'those responsible for this hate crime are brought to justice." England Change Anti-Racism Gesture Ahead of Tuesday's semi-final clash with Italy, the England squad announced they would stand—rather than take a knee—as their gesture against racism. 'Whilst I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result, I don't agree or think it's OK to target someone's appearance or race. 'As a result of this I will be taking a step back from social media and leaving it to a team to deal with." Previous Incidents Carter is not the first England player to face racial abuse. In 2023, Lauren James was targeted online following a defeat with her club side, Chelsea. England men's players Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Jadon Sancho also faced a wave of racist abuse after missing penalties in the Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer added his voice, writing on X (formerly Twitter): 'There is no place for racism in football or anywhere in society." England head coach Sarina Wiegman voiced her support, stating: 'I stand with Jess and all Lionesses players past and present who have suffered racism." BDPO office patwari among 2 booked for issuing fake NOC

Ludhiana: The patwari of a BDPO office is among two booked for alleged fraud related to the issuance of a fake NOC for a residential colony. The accused have been identified by Ludhiana rural police as Jagtar Singh, patwari at Jagraon BDPO office, and Rachpal Singh Gabria. The complaint against them was lodged by Mandeep Jindal and Indrajit Singh, residents of Govind Nagar in New Shimlapuri here. ASI Balwinder Singh said in their complaint, they told police that a residential colony was built on 35 acres of land in Jagraon's Agwad Gujjar. To get that approved, they applied for a licence from Glada. Letters regarding the issuance of NOC were issued by Glada to various departments. The complainants told police that after obtaining NOCs from 13 departments, they submitted the same to the office of Glada. They said they contacted their acquaintance, Mandeep Singh, to get one of the NOCs from the BDPO office in Jagraon, as he works as a patwari in the BDPO office, Ludhiana. The complainants said they were asked to submit the relevant documents to Patwari Jagtar Singh, posted at the BDPO office in Jagraon. They complied and provided the documents to Patwari Jagtar Singh on his request. Subsequently, the NoC issued by the BDPO of panchayat samiti, Jagraon, regarding their colony was sent to them by Jagtar Singh through their acquaintance. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas Prices In Dubai Might Be More Affordable Than You Think Villas In Dubai | Search Ads Get Quote Undo The ASI said the complainant told the police that they submitted the entire file to the Glada office, following which they Glada issued a project licence. They also submitted the fees, bank guarantee, and other documents sought by Glada. However, BDPO Jagraon later called Indrajit Singh to his office, placed the copy of the NoC in front of him, and claimed that the signature on the NoC was not his. According to the complainant, the BDPO asserted that the NOC was fake and returned the file submitted by Jagtar Singh Patwari on their behalf. A letter was also sent to the office of Glada to inform them about the matter. The complainants said when they spoke to Jagtar Singh, he told them that Rachpal Singh Gabaria, an RTI activist, was filing complaints against them and had sent the copy of the NOC to the BDPO office. The complainant alleged that the accused told them they had to pay a significant amount of money to Rachpal Singh Gabaria, else he would continue to blackmail them by submitting false applications against them. They subsequently lodged a police complaint regarding the matter. TNN
