LA Tech holds spring practice in Bossier

Yahoo23-04-2025
BOSSIER, LA (KTAL/KMSS) – On Tuesday, Louisiana Tech had its second to last spring practice in Bossier at Freedom Field, with an open invite to the community hoping to gain some support from LA Tech fans and alumni in the Shreveport area.
'I thought it was really cool just that you know Coach Cumbie and the community of Freedom Fields is wanting to do this,' Northwood alum Mason Welch and LA Tech QB. ' It was really cool just to get back, a lot of us are from this Shreveport. So it just means a lot to us and I know it means a lot to the community around here.'
With practices not typically open to friends and family it gives families an opportunity to see into the life of their favorite player.
'We had a good practice today. It's always good to be back in front of the family and let them see a side of my life they don't normally get to see,' long snapper and Loyola Alum Ean Burch said.
On Tuesday night, those Shreveport locals stood out.
'Jay Simon made some big plays from Calvary Baptists, we've signed Kolby Thomas from Calvary Baptists,' head coach Sonny Cumbie said. 'We've got Kendrick Rucker from Huntington on our football team. We've got several guys from this area. I think for to have those guys to come back home, there's obviously a little bit more bounce in their step too to be able to play in front of their friends and family and practice anyways in front of all the people that know them.'
After a disappointing outing last time the Bulldogs were in Shreveport for the Independence Bowl against Army, LA Tech was excited to showcase what's to come this season. The Bulldogs also feel like the momentum from the post season play is carrying over into this spring.
'I feel like it allowed us as a team to take a step forward towards this year,' Welch said.
'It changes a lot of guys' minds about what we can be and what we've been,' Burch said. 'It shows people that we have, we have a foot to stand on now.'
The Bulldogs have been making an effort to prioritize Shreveport because of its close proximity to Ruston. Doing so by inviting the community to be up close and personal with the team, as close as standing on the sidelines for practice and the Spring Showcase on Saturday, May 26.

‘It's So Hideous': Eagles Star A.J. Brown Refused to Commit to Georgia Over Socks

The University of Georgia might want to rethink its uniform after A.J. Brown's latest revelation. The Philadelphia Eagles superstar revealed on the 'Pardon My Take' podcast that he didn't commit to the Bulldogs because of one deal-breaker: black socks. Yes, you read that right — black socks. 'I didn't choose Georgia because I don't like wearing black socks. And that maybe crazy but I hate wearing black socks,' Brown said, adding, 'Putting on black socks with black cleats, it's so hideous.' While some might roll their eyes, an athlete's fit matters. Players want to look good on the field — otherwise it becomes an unnecessary distraction. Brown chose Ole Miss instead, where he posted 2,984 receiving yards on 189 catches with 19 touchdowns over three seasons, all while sporting white socks. 'Because when I put on white, I feel so fast, so smooth. There's something about it,' said Brown. His white-sock preference has served him well in the NFL, where he's earned four second-team All-Pro selections with Tennessee and Philadelphia. He also captured his first Super Bowl championship with the Eagles last season. Georgia's No. 1 recruit is ready to announce commitment

One of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, LaDamion Guyton, is scheduled to announce his college commitment on Aug. 7 at 3:30 p.m. He is a five-star defensive end from Benedictine Military School is rated a consensus top five player among all recruiting services. The rising junior is ranked as the No. 2 recruit in his class, per the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound edge rusher plays football and track and field. Guyton is the No. 1 recruit in Georgia and the top edge rusher prospect in the nation. While his final list of schools isn't public, both Georgia and Texas Tech are considered major contenders. The Bulldogs were the first team to offer him and they're hoping that early relationship will lead to a commitment. However, Georgia is expected to miss out on Guyton, who is projected to commit to Texas Tech. Last season he recorde 52 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks in nine games. He is a game-wrecker and can get in the backfield at any time. Georgia has success recruiting in the Savannah Area natives with the Bulldogs signing Nolan Smith, Kamari Lassiter, Warren Brinson, and now freshman phenom Elijah Griffin. Griffin was Guyton's former teammate in high school at Savannah Christian. Brinson even went to social media advocating for Georgia to keep Guyton in-state. Georgia has two commitments in the 2027 class already in four-star corner Donte Wright (Long Beach Poly) and three-star wide receiver Gavin Honore (Mater Dei). Getting Guyton could be a foundation piece to another top five or even top three recruiting class for head coach Kirby Smart.

Georgia football 2025 offensive line preview

The Georgia Bulldogs have rebuilt their offensive line ahead of the 2025 college football season. Four of Georgia's five starting offensive linemen left for the 2025 NFL draft. UGA will be without last season's starting center Jared Wilson, guard Tate Ratledge, guard Dylan Fairchild and tackle Xavier Truss. Despite all the NFL talent, Georgia's offensive line disappointed last season. The Dawgs ran for an average of 124.4 yards per game (second-to-last in the SEC) in 2024. According to Pick Six Previews, Georgia generated the No. 65 run push in the country last year, which is middle of the pack. Georgia has to be more effective rushing the football this fall. In 2024, Georgia allowed 25 sacks (No. 57 (tied) in the nation), which was a considerable drop off after allowing just 13 sacks (No. 8 (tied) in the nation) in 2023. This season sets up to be a bit a more advantageous for the offensive line. Georgia opens the season with Marshall and Austin Peay, so the reloaded unit will have time to gel before playing on the road against Tennessee on Sept. 13. Georgia's schedule is a little bit easier than it was in 2024. UGA plays only three road games, which is very helpful for offensive linemen. Georgia's projected starting offensive line Left tackle: Monroe Freeling Left guard: Micah Morris Center: Drew Bobo Right guard: Daniel Calhoun Right tackle: Earnest Greene Georgia returns four offensive linemen with at least 20 games of experience. The Bulldogs are hoping to have a bounce back year from redshirt junior offensive tackle Earnest Greene, who battled injuries throughout in 2024. Greene has appeared in 24 games in his Georgia career including 23 starts. Greene is expected to primarily play right tackle after spending most of his career at left tackle. He is UGA's most experienced returning lineman and earned preseason All-SEC honors (third-team). Georgia redshirt junior center Drew Bobo, who is the son of Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, returns and has 20 career appearances for the Bulldogs including two starts. He is projected to start at center. Junior offensive tackle Monroe Freeling is expected to hold down another starting spot for Georgia. Freeling has appeared in 22 career games at UGA including a handful of starts. He struggled at times in 2024, but has the talent and size to excel in a starting role. Freeling missed the spring after having a shoulder surgery. Georgia's last returning offensive lineman with significant experience is senior offensive guard Micah Morris. Morris has played in 33 career games at Georgia including four starts. Morris has previously served as Georgia's fullback in short yardage situations. Morris is projected to start at guard and is a mauler in the run game. UGA also returns redshirt freshman Daniel Calhoun, redshirt sophomore Bo Hughley, redshirt sophomore Jamal Meriweather, redshirt freshman Michael Uini, redshirt freshman Nyier Daniels and sophomore Jahzare Jackson. We project Calhoun, who missed a chunk of time this spring due to a foot injury, to start at offensive guard. Uini and Meriweather are expected to be Calhoun's top competition at right guard. We'll see how the offensive line competition unfolds in fall camp. Redshirt freshman Marques Easley was arrested in the offseason and transferred to Purdue this spring. Jahzare Jackson was recently arrested in July and will likely be suspended at the very least. UCF Knights redshirt freshman offensive lineman Waltclaire Flynn, a former four-star recruit, transferred to Georgia this spring and helps replace Easley. Georgia's freshmen offensive linemen Georgia signed five offensive linemen in the class of 2025 including three-star guard Dontrell Glover, four-star guard/center Cortez Smith, five-star guard/tackle Juan Gaston, four-star tackle Dennis Uzochukwu and three-star guard Mason Short. Smith and Gaston are most likely to earn playing time as true freshmen. Offensive linemen typically don't play as freshmen at UGA, but Georgia lost a lot of contributors this offseason, so there are more paths to playing time for freshmen than usual.
