Love Island's secret sex rules as bosses make jaw-dropping change
As we wait for the new series of Love Island to kick off tonight, the Mirror lifts the lid on the show's secret sex rules as bosses allow sex scenes to be aired for the first time this summer
ITV's Love Island has a string of secret sex rules, which the saucy singletons must follow. The new series of the smash-hit dating show, which kicks off tonight, is sure to be one of the steamiest yet after bosses revealed that sex scenes would be aired i n the Hideaway for the first time this summer.
The jaw-dropping move has divided viewers, with some saying they don't know want to see what pops up beneath the sheets under the Spanish sun. However, others, think the rule change is just what the new series needs as executive producer Mike Spencer said: "If sex happens, we'll show it. The Hideaway will be open 24 hours. We need to keep the show fresh and exciting."
So, as we wait for the new series to launch later when we'll finally be introduced to the class of 2025, here's all the sex rules the contestants must follow, including an outright ban on masturbating...

Outright ban on masturbating
Before going into the villa, all the Love Island contestants are prepped on what they can and can't do to ensure their strict sexual behaviour guidelines are met.
There is an outright ban on masturbating in the villas and despite most of the contestants wearing very little in the show, no one is allowed to get fully naked in front of the cameras as it's a 'public place'. This even applies in the shower.
Safety first
Safe sex is paramount and each contestant is offered an STI-test before entering the villa. Love Island star Marcel Somerville has said that in his experience, the bosses of the show made a big push for safe sex - adding that anyone going on the show must pass an STI test.
Marcel, who said he didn't have sex himself while he was in the villa, told The Mirror that the show does strict testing before people go in the villa, revealing that "quite a few" tests are done before people sign up for the show.
To make sure the contestants are practicing safe sex, ITV bosses provide their own brand of condoms which are readily available with up to 200 packets of the contraceptive aids put in the villa at the start of the series.
Former contestant, Kaz Crossley, managed to nab a bag of the branded condoms when she was dumped from the villa, sharing a snap of the loot with the caption: "Unpacking...tried to get my money's worth after being dumped, clearly."
Drunk sex is banned
Drunk sex – and getting drunk in general – is also banned in the Love Island villa as there is a two-drink limit per night for each Islander.
Although the Islanders are given booze during their evening parties, contestants are not allowed to get drunk with an explicit number of drinks given to each contestant.
After Andrea-Jane was dumped from the villa during the seventh series of the show, the blonde bombshell lifted the lid on the drinking rules inside the villa.
She told Capital FM: 'It is a two-drink limit. And usually, you get your first drink and then you have to wait around three hours until the second one."
Couples must see counsellor post-sex
Anyone who does have sex in the villa must see a counsellor afterwards and can gain access to the morning after pill if needed. The contestants are also offered therapy when the show ends, with Love Island OG Amy Hart, previously praising producers, telling the Mirror the show 'saved her' with its 'exceptional' level of aftercare.
A string of saucy singletons have had sex in the villa, including Jon Clark and Hannah Elizabeth, who 'christened' the villa when the show first aired in 2015 – with Jon declaring it was the 'best night of my life'.
Meanwhile, in series two, Olivia and Alex Bowen had sex up to 30 times while Malin Andersson and Terry Walsh couldn't keep their hands off each other - and even did the deed in front of their housemates.
The couple bizarrely decided to slide under their bed sheets in the middle of the day while in the middle of a conversation with the other islanders, but it was pretty obvious what they were up to.
After dumping Malin, Terry moved on with Emma Jane Woodham who he brazenly had sex with on top of the covers in front of everyone.
Speaking afterward in the Beach Hut, Emma admitted her dad wouldn't be impressed with her actions. She said: "Me and Terry had a bit of a kiss and a cuddle when we went upstairs last night. "My pops is very disapproving, so he won't like that very much."

He then told Shakira in the kitchen that Toni had given him the "ick" and that there was no spark between them. After Shakira told Toni what Ben had said, the Connecticut based beauty pulled Ben aside for a chat, where he brutally ended their romantic connection. But those watching at home were gobsmacked at his brutal approach and have begged for him to be axed next. One wrote: "Ben is a loser, get him off Love Island." A second posted: "Ben is unnecessarily cruel, it's giving negging & all the red flags." A third said: "I feel so bad for Toni, Ben is VILE." "I wish I could vote Ben off right now," a fourth commented. The fallout came after Ben admitted she gave him the 'ick' after her reaction to Sophie Lee being sent home. Shock moment Love Island cast realise two islanders who AREN'T coupled up have secretly gone to the Hideaway after VERY awkward lapdance As the Islanders are still reeling about Shakira Khan choosing Harry Cooksley, Toni said: 'Boys, it's your turn, just saying - I don't think you're gonna be safe.' Ben replied: 'Are you saying me in particular?' Toni added: 'No it's about boys, not everything is about you.' Her comments didn't go down well with Ben and he walked off - leaving the others surprised by his reaction. Meg later told him: 'That was a bit much…I don't get what she said that was really offensive?' Ben replied: 'She said, 'Not everything is about you…' I just got the ick.' Ben then told Shakira he'd got the ick with Toni and Shakira lets Toni know about this and suggests she pulls him for a chat. Toni does exactly that and asks Ben: 'I've heard from people you said I'm giving you the ick?' It quickly turned sour and he told her: 'I don't feel like me and you have got that spark if I am being honest.' Looking taken aback she replied 'okay' as he continued: 'That is just me being honest but I know when I have got it with someone. That I feel it straight away. But yeah I don't feel like you and me have got it.' Toni told him: 'I mean I don't think that technique is going to work for you here.' He asked what she means and she replied: 'Right away off the bat.' Smirking, he responded: 'You'd be surprised. I feel like sparks have already been made.' A very unhappy Toni hits back: 'Good luck pal.' Ben asked Shakira to join him in the Hideaway for a chat, where he admitted he fancied her.
