Two cities in Africa have been crowned among the world's best cultural destinations
Were you shocked to learn that, after surveying 18,500 people on their cities' cultural offerings, the gleaming French capital was named as the best place in the world for culture? No, neither were we (and you can read more about why here).
But our freshly updated roundup of the best cities in the world for culture includes 19 other brilliant hubs that are top-tier places for an art and culture fix right now – and two of them are in Africa.
The first of these was Cape Town, where 89 percent of the locals we spoke to positively rated the city's cultural offering, citing events such as ArtsCape, Cape Town Jazz Fest, Kaapse Klopse and First Thursdays. The city sits in tenth place on the culture ranking, but came first as the world's best city overall.
'Cape Town's culture scene has seen an explosion of talent over the last few years,' says Time Out South Africa content director Andrew Hallett. 'Take Dweba Art & Cafe, a new resident of Longmarket Street, where artists fearlessly confront contemporary issues through diverse visual languages over a cup of coffee. We've seen an impressive run of stage shows, including Dear Evan Hansen, which local actor Stuart Brown shone in.'
The next city to be included was Marrakech, which sits in seventeenth place and had a positive review of its cultural scene from 68 percent of locals.

Dawn French apologises after ‘mocking tone' in video about Israel-Hamas conflict
Dawn French apologises after 'mocking tone' in video about Israel-Hamas conflict The Vicar Of Dibley actress posted a video on social media this week in which she switched between her normal voice and a higher pitched voice Dawn French publicly apologised following the controversial video (Image: undefined via Getty Images ) Comedian Dawn French has apologised after posting a video online about the Israel-Hamas conflict, saying she "clumsily used a mocking tone" and it "appeared one-sided". The Vicar Of Dibley actress posted a video on social media this week in which she switched between her normal voice and a higher pitched voice. In the video about the conflict, she said: "Complicated, no, but nuanced", adding: "Bottom line is, no." Then at one point she said in the higher pitched voice: "Yeah, but you know they did a bad thing to us." French has now posted a statement on X saying she has taken down the video and apologised, saying her intention was never "to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened" on October 7 2023. The statement, posted on Saturday, says: "Ok, it's important to address this. Article continues below "I posted a video in the style I've been using for social media in an effort to convey an important point. I clumsily used a mocking tone. "My intention was NEVER to mock, or dismiss, or diminish the horror of what happened on 7 October 2023 and what continues to unfold from that brutal unthinkable, unforgivable, savage attack. "My heart broke for the many innocent people and their families that were killed, tortured, r@ped and kidnapped. The fact that hostages are still held is utterly appalling. "My intention was to mock and point the finger of shame at the behaviour of the cruel leaders on ALL sides of this atrocious war, who have continued to behave like the worst, dangerous, sickening bullies and seem to relish the tyrannical and childish oneupmanship of the violence. THEY were my target, but clearly I failed to do that, and that's on me. I apologise unreservedly. I'm particularly sorry that my disgust at Hamas didn't figure. It appeared one-sided, and that is wrong. "I am a person, who like many others, is feeling increasingly helpless and hopeless as we witness the carnage and destruction worsen. The images of starving and wounded children have haunted me day and night. History has taught us never to stand by and allow this kind of inhumane violence to be wrought on anyone, especially innocent children. "I have felt my silence is complicit or even somehow sanctioning. So in my small way I wanted to voice my desire to say NO – to BOTH sides – to any further violence. Article continues below "I hope you will understand my intention was not to offend, but clearly I have. For which I'm sorry and I have removed the video."

Romeo Beckham moves on from ex-girlfriend Kim already after sparking family rift
Romeo Beckham has been papped with German model Caroline Daur in Paris just weeks after calling it quits with 'his world', DJ and model, Kim Turnbull Romeo Beckham appears to have moved on from his ex, Kim Turnbull, already after being spotted with a blonde model in Paris. The second eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, 22, has found himself surrounded by rumours of a family feud after his older brother Brooklyn, 26, swerved the siblings' dad's 50th birthday. Brooklyn was reportedly 'uneasy' about Romeo dating Kim, who was once close friends with the hot sauce enthusiast, and felt his parents were 'favouring' his younger brother, who was seen beaming in snaps from David's birthday. Amid the fallout, Romeo and Kim called it quits two weeks ago and now it looks like it's all-change again after the latest snaps from the French capital. Sporting a shaved head, wearing a black Champion sweatshirt and tracksuit bottoms, Romeo can be seen in the car with German model, Caroline, 30, leaving a bash at the swanky, Hotel Costes. Romeo jumped into a taxi with the influencer - who was rocking a strapless minidress and who has 5m followers on Instagram - and other pals after enjoying an evening together, before hot-footing it to Julia nightclub, where they stayed until the early hours. The pair sparked romance rumours as they went to great lengths not be snapped together as they left the venue separately. However, they then headed off in the same car alongside others, reports the Mail. It is said that Romeo and Caroline bonded over their love of Tennis, with both attending the Men's Singles Semi Final at the French Open on Friday. The Mirror has contacted Romeo's representative for comment. Pals say that things remain 'amicable' between Romeo and ex Kim, and insist that their split has nothing to do with the bitter Beckham feud, which is said to have been sparked by their relationship. Brooklyn is said to have felt Kim's reasons for dating his brother were 'disingenuous' amid rumours he used to date the DJ. However, in a now deleted Instagram post Cruz Beckham denied Brooklyn was ever in a relationship with Kim. Speaking to the Mail about Romeo's split with the DJ, who the model once referred to his as his " world", a source said: "Romeo and Kim are both young and they had a lovely time together but at that age things don't always last forever and they decided to split up. "They have been friendly since and have even been at the same venues. It's a huge shame, particularly as David and Victoria really adored her and thought she made Romeo happy but it wasn't to be. "David and Victoria would hate for the view to be that they split because of Nicola and Brooklyn because that simply isn't the case." Victoria's approval of Kim is a stark contrast to how the artist formerly known as Posh Spice views her eldest son's wife, billionaire heiress Nicola. Victoria and David are said to be 'done' with their daughter-in-law, who has been accused of 'controlling' Brooklyn. However, Nicola's camp said she previously tried to encourage her husband to see his family, insisting 'she just wants the best for him'.
