Political plot against beleaguered Police Minister Senzo Mchunu revealed

Two KwaZulu-Natal senior ANC national executive committee members have been accused by supporters of embattled Police Minister Senzo Mchunu of orchestrating a political plot.
The alleged plot aims to have Mchunu dismissed from the cabinet and prevent his election to the party's top seven in 2027.
Two weeks ago, provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi dropped a bombshell, accusing Mchunu of interfering in police operations to shield underworld syndicate criminals from prosecution.
This accusation came as Mchunu was campaigning for the ANC in Vryheid, northern KwaZulu-Natal, for a by-election.
Many saw this campaign as a political move ahead of the 2027 party elective conference. The by-election was ultimately won by the IFP last week.

Speaking anonymously, a supporter of Mchunu argued that it was implausible for him to have sought to protect businessman Vusi 'Cat' Matlala regarding a tender awarded in 2021.
The backer highlighted that Mchunu was leading a different department at the time and, furthermore, initiated an investigation into the tender's awarding, subsequently cancelling it.
The backer questioned, 'This tender was awarded before Minister Mchunu joined the Police Portfolio, how can the Minister institute investigation and subsequently cancel it if they are friends?'
He said Mchunu's team has picked up information that the two NEC members had a meeting in Durban with a leader of the opposition party which is pushing for Mchunu's dismissal from his ministerial position.
He further stated that the NEC members are also against the commission because they fear it might unearth their corruption. which is linked to the R360 million tender which was awarded to Matlala in Tembisa hospital.
'We know they have been holding secret meetings aimed at derailing the current commission of inquiry. In these confidential discussions, an alarm was raised that allowing the commission to proceed would likely expose the true perpetrators behind a series of corruption scandals other than Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is now being used as a scapegoat.
The covert plan appears to involve coordinated efforts to pressure the President into dismissing Minister Mchunu in the wake of his bold steps to clean up corruption within top police ranks — an operation which led to the arrest of their close associates within the police top ranks. These claims by Mchunu backers come after Umkhonto weSizwe Party has filed an urgent court application in the Constitutional Court to stop Madlanga Commission from resuming its work.
Making his first public appearance in his home town of eMpangeni north of the province, Mchunu addressed a Mandela Day commemoration which was organised by the newly appointed ANC's Musa Dladla regional task team.
He received a warm welcome and people shouted Mayihlome ihlasele (let's prepare to attack) as he moved to the podium. In the veiled reference to Mkhwanazi, Mchunu said he was not wearing a camouflage uniform and he had no gun.
Mchunu was placed on leave by President Ramaphosa last week who also announced a Judicial Commission that will be chaired by Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

Mbalula came out to address the media during a short interval at the Cape Sun Hotel, where the ANC's National Working Committee (NWC) met with the Provincial Executive Committee. This forms part of the ANC's ongoing efforts to strengthen its organisational capacity and engage directly with structures of the movement across regions and districts. 'We, as the ANC, will fight side-by-side for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people. We are in solidarity with them, and Morocco must stop the occupation of Western Sahara. 'Zuma is no messiah. He is a sellout of note. For whatever reason, he is doing this is no surprise to us,' Mbalula said. 'The very decision to steal the assets of the ANC to form a political party, and call it what it is, to divide our people, to weaken the African National Congress, for his own personal aggrandisement, is what he has been. 'He is no messiah': Mbalula slams Zuma for misleading the world
The ANC's foreign policy on non-alignment has been challenged by many political party's even in the GNU. ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula is accusing former president Jacob Zuma of abusing the South African flag and misleading the international community. This comes after the country's flag was used in a bilateral meeting between Zuma and the government of the Kingdom of Morocco. Zuma participated in this meeting as the leader of the African National Congress (ANC), not the MK party. However, the South African government is incensed by this and is demanding an explanation from the government of Morocco. Mbalula not surprised by Zuma's opposition to ANC's foreign policy Mbalula spoke to the media in Cape Town on Sunday. He described Zuma as a sell-out and a trouble-maker. 'Jacob Zuma represents everything that is wrong that is pursued by sell-outs. The ANC will fight alongside the Sahrawi people for their self-determination. 'Morocco must stop the occupation of Western Sahara. Zuma is no messiah. He is a sell-out of note,' he said. Mbalula said he is not surprised by Zuma's opposition to the ANC's foreign policy of non-alignment. 'This is no surprise to us, the very reason to steal the assets of the ANC to form a political party and call it what it is, and divide our people. 'He weakened the ANC for his own personal aggrandisement, he is what he has been and he will be remembered for that,' he said. In a statement on Saturday, the ANC said Zuma is betraying the party's historical mission. The party also said his behaviour is shameful. Mbalula also faced tough questions from reporters about the ANC's reservations regarding taking a strong stance against Police Minister Senzo Mchunu. He defended the ANC's posture on the matter. 'Senzo will not step aside in terms of the ANC; he is an elected member. He now has the opportunity to also state his side of the story. 'Now, once we have listened to that and it is evaluated in terms of fact by a competent, independent judge and a panel judicial commission that the president appointed, then he can make a judgment. 'Let us allow the process to follow this, which is what all South Africans are looking forward to, even we are looking forward to it,' he said. ANC to take decisions about Western Cape structures On the other hand, Mbalula said the ANC National Working Committee is in the Western Cape this weekend to meet structures and find ways to strengthen the party. The ANC lost the Western Cape to the DA in 2009 and has been struggling to regain support in that part of the country. 'There is going to be action on issues that are raised to strengthen the ANC in the Western Cape,' he said. Mbalula said the ANC's National Working Committee (NWC) will meet on Monday to discuss the interventions that should be made in the Western Cape. IFP retains highly contested KZN ward
A FIERCELY-contested by-election on Wednesday saw the IFP retain Ward 23 with 1 559 votes. In second place was the ANC with 648 votes, MK Party with 567 votes, EFF with 188 votes, and the Labour Party with 68 votes.
