Bryan Mbeumo comment says everything as Man Utd submit third transfer bid

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Manchester United seem determined to land Bryan Mbeumo after tabling a third bid for the Brentford striker, and his old manager believes the 25-year-old has the ability to play for a huge club
Bryan Mbeumo was once backed to leave Brentford for a Premier League giant by his old manager, Thomas Frank. Mbeumo has been at the centre of a protracted transfer saga this summer, with Manchester United desperate to secure the services of the 25-year-old forward.

United have now tabled a third offer for the Cameroonian international, believed to be £65million plus £5m in performance-related add-ons. United have previously failed with two bids for Brentford's star man but are hoping to strike lucky with their latest offer.

Mbeumo has already agreed personal terms with United. He has also informed Brentford, and the other clubs chasing him, that he doesn't want to move anywhere else, having rejected both Newcastle and Tottenham.

Brentford have yet to respond to United's latest bid. However, comments in 2024 made by the Bees' ex-coach Frank, who has since joined Spurs and made a play for his ex-striker, will give Mbeumo a huge confidence boost should he make the move to Old Trafford. The Dane claimed last year: "I'd buy him if I was at a bigger club."
Frank has been backing Mbeumo to succeed for some time. After the striker missed a chunk of action two seasons ago due to injury, his manager's remarks spoke volumes that he believes the goalscorer can cut it anywhere. Mbeumo's contributions were sorely missed at the time while he was on the treatment table.

"He [Mbeumo] was our biggest miss for four months last year, even with [Former Brentford striker, Ivan] Toney out," Frank said. "He was our key player and has added another layer this season with five goals in six games."
He continued: "That's incredible and he's creating chances. He's a top player. I'm convinced he will play for a bigger club. I'd buy him if I was at a bigger club."
The ongoing saga has not been ideal for United. Ruben Amorim reportedly wanted all his new recruits signed up before he and his squad fly to the USA next week for their pre-season tour.

Matheus Cunha is United's only new arrival so far. The club's previous bids for Mbeumo - £45m plus £10m in add-ons and £55m plus £7.5m in bonuses - were rejected, as Brentford believe Mbeumo, who scored 20 goals last season, should command a higher fee than the £62.5m United paid Wolves to sign Cunha.
Yet the optics around the deal are harming United, so says former Red Devils defender Rio Ferdinand, who was speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast.

"[Mbeumo] has told Tottenham, he's told Brentford that he only wants to join Manchester United. So Man United and Brentford have to come together and find a way of... well, Man United have to find a way of meeting Brentford's valuation," Ferdinand said.
"I think Man United have to get this done. I think it's been in the news for far too long to get to a situation where you get to the end of the window and it doesn't happen.
"I think that would be a custard, egg on your face situation for Man United, unless they go and get someone else, another striker. Who have they got waiting in the wings as an alternative? So, I'll be surprised if this deal doesn't go through, because Man United have been adamant."

Liverpool transfer news: Hugo Ekitike and Marc Guehi latest as Alexander Isak statement made

Liverpool are trying to negotiate a transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike after testing the water with Newcastle for Alexander Isak earlier in the week Liverpool are working hard to sign a centre-forward to add to their array of transfers in the summer window. ‌ The Reds have already closed deals for Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pesci and Freddie Woodman for an outlay of around £180million. But they are not happy to stop there, with a centre-forward and centre-back among the other additions wanted by Arne Slot. ‌ There are also departures on the cards at Anfield, with Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Ibrahima Konate and Harvey Elliott among those who could be sold before the window closes on September 1. ‌ Having played Preston already in pre-season, Liverpool will soon jet off to Asia, where they face AC Milan and Yokohama in Hong Kong and Japan. Slot wants transfers wrapped up as soon as possible so he can play how to defend their Premier League title. Here are the latest transfer news stories regarding Liverpool. Howe speaks out on Isak Eddie Howe has tried to explain the situation surrounding Alexander Isak after he was absent from Newcastle's 4-0 defeat by Celtic on Saturday. Liverpool made enquiries over a £120million deal for Isak earlier in the week before moving on to chase the Magpies own target, Hugo Ekitike. But Isak's absence had worried some Newcastle fans – and although Howe refused to give certainty that the Swede would stay – he did explain things. ‌ "I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him," he admitted before adding: 'Yes, I've had discussions with him, but that's not abnormal. I respect a player's career and how short it is. Alex has been really good, he's trained really well and I realise there'll be noise around him.' Ekitike move tied to Diaz Liverpool are in negotiations with Eintracht Frankfurt over a transfer for Ekitike, who has already agreed personal terms over a six-year deal with the Reds. Ekitike had been chased by Newcastle, but is understood to prefer a move to Anfield. ‌ He has a £86m release clause, but Liverpool are taking things slowly and trying to prise him away from the German club. And Sky Sports Germany say that Bayern Munich 's efforts to sign Luis Diaz are linked to Ekitike's future. Diaz wants to leave Liverpool, but they have already rejected an offer worth £58m from Bayern. While they have been firm publicly that the Colombian winger is not for sale, Sky's sources in Germany suggest that they will green light the move once it's clear that Ekitike is on board. Guehi 'deal to be done' ‌ Things have quietened down on Liverpool's interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, but that interest has not gone away. Guehi has entered the final year of his Palace contract and doesn't seem keen to sign a new one. Palace have tried to dampen transfer speculation by placing a £65m valuation on the England international. But BBC Sport reporter Sami Mokbel thinks they will ultimately do business for less. Speaking to The Redmen TV, Mokbel explained: 'That interest is ongoing. My understanding at the moment is that there isn't anything club-to-club yet. I expect that to happen in some form or another in the not-too-distant future. It's down to the clubs reaching an agreement. I don't know if it'll be necessarily that easy, knowing how Palace operate.' He added: 'I think all parties probably realise that there is a deal to be done here.' Man Utd transfer news: Three transfers to be completed as summer window gets moving

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, while both Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are nearing moves away from Old Trafford Manchester United kicked off their pre-season with a 0-0 draw against Leeds in Sweden on Saturday. New signings Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon made their first appearances for the club during the game and more new faces are expected before the transfer window slams shut. ‌ Plenty of outgoings are also expected, with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia placed in the 'bomb squad' after manager Ruben Amorim decided they have no future at the club. ‌ Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof have already departed after their contracts expired, while veteran defender Jonny Evans has retired and taken up a new role as United's head of loans and pathways. ‌ Rashford closes in on move Marcus Rashford is close to getting his dream move to Barcelona, with Spanish giants finalising a deal with Manchester United. Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa after being frozen out by Ruben Amorim and the forward is now set to join Barcelona on loan with an option to buy after Hansi Flick approved a deal. ‌ Rashford has made no secret of his desire to join Barcelona, stating last month: "Spain is nice, it's not too far from home. If I'm training over a long period, my family can come for a few days, it's a nice location and good weather." Sancho agreement According to Italian outlet Sportmediaset, Juventus have reached a 'full agreement' with Jadon Sancho over personal terms as they hope to sign the winger. ‌ The report states that Juventus are also close to agreeing a deal with Manchester United, with the transfer expected to be finalised next week. It is claimed that Juventus are set to meet United's €25million (£21.6m) asking price. Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but the Blues decided to pay a £5m penalty fee to avoid signing him permanently. ‌ £71m Mbeumo move Bryan Mbeumo is set to join Manchester United in time for their pre-season trip to the US after an agreement was finally reached with Brentford. United fly out to Chicago on Tuesday and Mbeumo is expected to join them after a fee was agreed of £65m plus £6m in add-ons. Ruben Amorim also wants United to sign a new creative midfielder and a proven goalscorer this summer.
