Mountain rescuers scrambled to save 30kg dog who 'refused to move'
Mountain rescuers were scrambled to help a large dog which 'refused to move' while on a walk in the Lake District. The 30kg dog refused to budge while walking on the Wasterwater Screes, an area of loose rock and boulders on the banks on Wastwater, the deepest lake in England. A team of 10 volunteers from Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team were called to the scene after the police asked for their assistance. The dog and two walkers were taken to safety by boat during a three hour rescue operation on Sunday evening. The Team Leader deployed a boat team and they successfully rescued the dog along with two walkers. TikTok Star JaidoWorld, 19, Arrested for Attempted Murder After High-Speed Police Chase
The young content creator allegedly fired shots at authorities from his vehicle during a police pursuit on Aug. 11 NEED TO KNOW Elias Fritz, known on his social media platforms as 'JaidoWorld,' was arrested on Aug. 11 for attempted murder in New Providence, Bahamas Local police allege that Fritz fired shots at authorities during an early morning police chase Fritz has been charged with attempted murder, attempted armed robbery, possession of ammunition, and possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life, according to local news outlets Content creator Elias Fritz, known on his social media platforms as 'JaidoWorld,' was arrested on Aug. 11 for attempted murder. According to an Aug. 11 crime report by the Royal Bahamas Police Force, at about 4:30 a.m., officers in New Providence, Bahamas, observed a vehicle traveling at a 'high speed' without its headlights on. After attempting to halt the vehicle, police pursued the car, during which the passengers fired gunshots in the direction of the police and the police returned fire. The pursuit concluded, the report continues, when the vehicle collided with a utility pole. The three passengers — males aged 19, 19 and 17 — were arrested, and a 'high-powered weapon' was recovered from the vehicle, the report states. Local outlets Eyewitness News Bahamas and The Tribune 242 later identified one of the 19-year-old passengers as Fritz. Fritz didn't immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment The report also notes that, during the pursuit, another police unit identified a nearby motorist who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and alleged that he had been shot by the occupants of a vehicle that matched the description of Fritz's car. He was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, the report adds. According to Eyewitness News Bahamas — which obtained video of the alleged police chase — Fritz and the other adult in the vehicle have been charged with attempted armed robbery, possession of ammunition, and possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life, in addition to attempted murder. Neither Fritz nor the other adults were required to enter a plea, per Eyewitness News Bahamas, and they were denied bail. They are expected to appear in court for presentation of a voluntary bill of indictment on Nov. 21. Fritz, whose posts on TikTok date back to May 2024, gained viral attention on the platform as a bartender at Tiki Bikini Hut in Nassau, Bahamas. On the platform, he currently boasts over 300,000 followers. Justice Department investigating DC police over Trump allegations of ‘fake' crime data
The Department of Justice is reportedly investigating whether Washington, D.C. officials manipulated crime data after Donald Trump accused the capital city of creating 'fake crime numbers' to undermine his federal takeover. On his Truth Social account on Monday, Trump accused D.C. officials of manipulating data to create a 'false illusion of safety' while his critics accuse the White House of exaggerating reports of violent crime to justify an unprecedented mandate. 'This is a very bad and dangerous thing to do, and they are under serious investigation for so doing!' Trump wrote. Last week, the president declared what he called a 'crime emergency' to justify his administration taking control of the city's Metropolitan Police Department while deploying National Guard troops and federal law enforcement agents into the city's streets, claiming that the White House must 'rescue' the city from 'crime, bloodshed, bedlam and squalor and worse.' He claimed the city is overrun with 'bloodthirsty criminals, roving mobs of wild youth, drugged-out maniacs and homeless people,' though reports of violent crime in the city have plummeted, along with national downward trends of violent crime rates. The capital city 'was the most unsafe 'city' in the United States, and perhaps the World,' he wrote on Monday. 'Now, in just a short period of time, it is perhaps the safest, and getting better every single hour!' The White House has pointed to a previous investigation into D.C. police commander Michael Pulliam, who was suspended earlier this year facing allegations that he made 'questionable' changes to crime data, according to a report from NBC4 Washington last month. A federal investigation is expected to go further than the local probe into Pulliam's time in office. The Independent has requested comment from MPD. Despite the administration's claims that crime is 'out of control' in D.C., data has shown the opposite: 2024 saw the lowest violent crime rates in the capital in more than 30 years, while reports of violent crime within the first seven months of 2025 have plunged 27 percent from last year. Those rates mirror national downward trends, according to FBI crime data released during Trump's administration. Homicides in D.C. are down 11 percent, according to city data. The city's homicide rate in 2024 was roughly 25 per 100,000 residents — nearly twice the rate in 2012, when it was nearly 14 per 100,000 residents. This is a developing story
