Iraqi News13 hours ago
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed on Thursday that Iraq exported over eight million barrels of oil to the United States in July 2025.
The EIA mentioned that Iraq's crude oil exports to the United States during July rose to 8.37 million barrels compared to 6.43 million barrels in June 2025, Shafaq News reported.
Iraq exported an average of 314,000 barrels of crude oil per day to the United States during the first week of July, 273,000 barrels per day during the second week, 214,000 barrels per day during the third week, and 279,000 barrels per day during the fourth week, according to figures released by the EIA.
The EIA indicated that Iraq was the fourth-largest oil exporter to the United States during July, following Canada, which was the largest oil supplier to the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico.
Iraq was the second-largest oil supplier to the United States in the Arab region, following Saudi Arabia, which exported 9.39 million barrels, and Libya, which exported a total of 1.48 million barrels.
Iraq's crude oil and oil derivative exports to the United States exceeded 95 million barrels in 2024.
Iraq's oil exports to the United States have increased significantly in the last few years, often achieving record levels within a single month. This growth can be attributed to Iraq's capacity to enhance oil production alongside the rising global demand.

Iraq to adopt national policy for small and medium enterprises

Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Ministry of Planning held on Wednesday a national validation workshop in Baghdad to examine and approve the first draft of Iraq's National Policy for Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development. The International Labor Organization (ILO) provided assistance for the event, which was also funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), according to a statement released by the ILO. Iraqi Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning Hanaa al-Asady stressed that the program lays the groundwork for economic resilience by encouraging innovation and job creation throughout Iraq. ILO Country Coordinator Maha Kattaa underlined the organization's commitment, saying that it is pleased to assist Iraq's efforts to create an inclusive SME environment that supports decent employment, green transformation, and long-term development. The feedback obtained throughout the workshop provided useful insights and practical recommendations, which will be included in the final version of the policy document to ensure it is responsive, practical, and inclusive as it prepares for formal approval and launch. This milestone is part of the ILO's project 'Towards more and better employment through enhanced support to private sectors in southern Iraq—with a focus on green business.' The workshop reaffirmed the country's strong commitment to creating a policy for SME development, inclusive entrepreneurship, and the green transition.

China's ZhenHua to explore oil near Iraq–Saudi border

Baghdad ( – China's Zhenhua Oil has signed a new agreement with Iraq to carry out a major oil exploration project in the southwestern province of Najaf, near the border with Saudi Arabia. The scope of work includes conducting 3D seismic surveys over roughly 2,850 square kilometers, along with drilling four exploratory wells over the next 223 days. The contract is part of Iraq's broader licensing efforts to develop untapped oil and gas fields. Authorities hope to further increase the country's already substantial crude reserves, which are currently ranked among the top five globally. Zhenhua Oil, a state-owned firm under China's Norinco Group, has been steadily expanding its operations in Iraq's energy sector. Beyond the new project, the company previously secured rights to the Al-Qarnain and Abu Khema blocks, also situated near the Saudi frontier, reflecting its growing strategic role in Iraq's upstream industry.

Iraq's electricity production reaches 28,000 megawatts

Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, revealed on Thursday that Iraq had set a record energy output of 28,000 megawatts, an unprecedented achievement in the country's history. Fadel noted that, despite the challenges, Iraq has attained peak output because of a well-planned strategy that includes long-term maintenance contracts, power plant renovation, the installation of improved cooling systems, and the partial use of imported fuel, according to a statement released by the Electricity Ministry. The Iraqi electricity minister indicated that the ministry has formed agreements with General Electric (GE) to develop power facilities with a capacity of 24,000 megawatts, as well as with Siemens, a Germany-based company, for an additional capacity of 14,000 megawatts. Fadel also mentioned that an agreement with Shanghai Electric Group is expected to be finalized soon to produce 10,000 megawatts of electricity to meet the increasing demand in the country. While Iran has halted deliveries of the gas required to operate power plants, the Iraqi government is attempting to adopt measures aimed at resolving the current electricity crisis this summer and maintaining a consistent supply of electricity.
