Sultan Nazrin officiates solar arch at UPSI
Also attending the ceremony was the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim.
Their Royal Highnesses were greeted upon arrival by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, UPSI pro-chancellor Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Zakri Abdul Hamid and UPSI vice-chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff.
In his speech, Md Amin said the concept by Sultan Nazrin had inspired UPSI researchers together with the Synergy Generated Company and UPSI Holdings Sdn Bhd to build a Solar Arch or the first mega solar hall in Malaysia with an area of over 12,500 square feet.
'UPSI's Solar Arch, with its zero capex concept, has successfully reduced carbon emissions by 2,800 tonnes per year, and saving construction costs of RM5 million.
'In addition, it saves electricity bills of RM2 million per year as well as saving ceremonial tent rentals of RM500,000 per year, and it is able to generate up to RM350,000 per year through rental for various programmes implemented at the arch,' he said.
He said the Solar Arch initiative would also be a catalyst for UPSI's leap in achievement for the Low Carbon City Award and UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
'This modern initiative is not just a physical landmark, but a symbol of sustainable commitment that shines towards world-class green initiatives in the state of Perak Darul Ridzuan.
'The project is In line with the aspirations of the book written by the Sultan, Globalisation, Perak's Rise, Relative Decline and Regeneration,' he said.
Meanwhile, Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara also witnessed the exchange of Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) between UPSI, Institut Darul Ridzuan (IDR) and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) in the fields of research, education, law and care economics training.
Their Highnesses also attended a feast in conjunction with UPSI's 2025 Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration and ended with a visit to the food stalls at the event.

Winding-up petition against Mah Sing withdrawn
KUALA LUMPUR: Mah Sing Group Bhd said a winding-up petition against the company has been withdrawn by the petitioner without liberty to file afresh. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the property developer said the petition was related to a judgment dated Sept 13, 2024, obtained by One2Print Sdn Bhd in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court over a trespass case. Under the judgment, Mah Sing was ordered to pay RM61,770 in special damages, with interest at five per cent per annum from Jan 20, 2020, until full settlement, as well as RM21,000 in costs. The company had earlier said it strongly refuted the basis of the petition and had filed an appeal in the High Court against the Sessions Court decision. Mah Sing obtained an ad interim stay of execution on Feb 18 and deposited the judgment sum with a stakeholder pending its appeal, with further case management set for Aug 18. It added that the withdrawal of the petition is not expected to have any material financial or operational impact on the group, apart from legal fees and related disbursements.

Nike Is Suing Edison Chen For Over RM500k For Breach Of Contract
It's not uncommon for brands to take legal action against celebrities, typically for damaging their reputation or breaching a contract. Recently, it was reported that footwear and apparel company Nike is suing former collaborator and Hong Kong star Edison Chen (陈冠希). On 12th August 2025 (Tuesday), reports emerged online alleging that Nike is suing Edison Chen for breach of contract. In a photo, allegedly of the court record, the company is seeking damages of US$126,615,000 (approximately RM534 million). However, recent reports have updated this figure, saying it was a clerical error and that the lawsuit is actually for a little over US$126,000 (approximately RM531,000). According to reports, the lawsuit accuses Edison and his company, Juice Los Angeles, of owing Nike US$126,615 for 'goods and services that Nike provided to Juice'. Edison was named in the lawsuit because he is the personal guarantor on the Juice account with Nike. He's also a resident of Los Angeles, where his company is based. However, there are no additional details on the case. Both Nike and Edison Chen have yet to speak on the lawsuit. However, contrary to popular belief, it appears the lawsuit has nothing to do with Edison partnering with Nike's competitor, Adidas. Edison and Nike had a long-standing relationship, dating back to 2006. Edison's streetwear brand Clot and Nike's Jordan brand have collaborated on numerous sneaker projects. The partnership ended in 2023, and a year later, Clot launched its first collaboration with Adidas Originals. Given the nearly 20-year history between Edison Chen and Nike, their 'breakup' was a surprise to many in the streetwear industry. It's not known why the partnership ended, but insiders suggest that the deal had run its course and was going to expire anyway. Meanwhile, Edison and Adidas have had three launches in 2025 alone. Earlier this month, Edison also teased the launch of a Clot x Adidas Anthony Edwards 1 sneaker. It's worth noting that the Edison Chen lawsuit comes right after Nike settled their lawsuit with custom footwear maker, The Shoe Surgeon, for unauthorised use of the brand's trademarks. Yusof Haslam's Skop Productions donates RM380,000 to Media Prima disaster fund
KUALA LUMPUR: Skop Productions Sdn Bhd has contributed RM380,000 to the NSTP-Media Prima Bhd (NSTP-MPB) Disaster Fund to assist victims, including those affected in Putra Heights. Skop Productions founder Datuk Yusof Haslam presented the donation to Media Prima Bhd (MPB) group chief financial officer Rosli Sabarudin. Yusof said the contribution was inspired by strong support for his company's films this year. "This donation is to help victims, whether their homes were destroyed by fire or affected by any other disaster. It also includes victims in Putra Heights and elsewhere," Yusof said. "Fortunately, Skop Productions' films have received good response this year, so I must play my role as a Muslim and as a caring Malaysian. This is a sincere contribution from me and Skop Productions," he added. He said that the company planned to continue collaborating with MPB's Primeworks Studios on several upcoming projects, including Blood Brothers 2 and Sheriff, which will begin filming next year. "This collaboration is a win-win situation because we cannot be greedy and do everything ourselves. In any industry, we must have cooperation and give-and-take to achieve success. That has always been our practice," he said. On his hopes for the donation, Yusof hoped it could help ease the burden of disaster victims and he would contribute yearly if it was sustainable. Rosli expressed his appreciation for Skop Productions' generosity. "As a trustee, I am grateful to Malaysians for their continuous support. This time, Skop Production has stepped forward with an amount of RM380,000, which will go to the NSTP-Media Prima Disaster Fund to aid victims in Putra Heights and other disaster-hit areas nationwide," he said.
