Tapgate SIT asks Bandi to appear as witness
HYDERABAD: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged phone-tapping case has summoned Minister of State (Home Affairs) Bandi Sanjay to appear before it as a witness under Section 161 CrPC.
SIT sources confirmed that the team asked Sanjay to record his statement regarding the alleged tapping of his phone during the BRS regime. The sources stated that Sanjay told the investigators that he would inform them of the date and time he would appear.
Meanwhile, former Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) chief and prime accused in the case, T Prabhakar Rao, reportedly told investigators that he acted only on the instructions of his senior officers and had no links with any leaders of the previous BRS regime.
During questioning on Friday, Prabhakar Rao is believed to have stated: 'I do not have any connections with any key figures in the BRS government and carried out my duties as per the directions of higher officials.'
Sources said Prabhakar Rao claimed he was following the orders of a former DGP and denied any association with political parties. He also maintained that no rules drafted by a committee of senior officials were breached.
Prabhakar Rao appeared before the Investigating Officer at Jubilee Hills police station for the fifth consecutive day of questioning on Friday. Sources said that he repeatedly responded that he could not remember or was unaware of several matters raised by the IO.

About 8.5 lakh applications received in Revenue Sadassus and 60% of them resolved: Minister Ponguleti
Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the Congress government was systematically cleansing the revenue system that was plagued by corruption and mismanagement during the decade-long BRS rule. Speaking at a review meeting with officials on Saturday, the Minister stated that the recently concluded State-wide revenue sessions have ushered in a new era of transparency in land administration. Stating that the outreach was extensive, the Minister revealed that 10,725 revenue sessions were conducted in three phases across 593 mandals, during which a total of 8.58 lakh applications related to land issues were received. In the first phase (April 17 to 30), 72 revenue sessions across 4 mandals were held and 12,000 applications were received. In Phase-2 (from May 5), 414 sessions across 28 mandals were held and 46,000 applications were received. In the last phase (June 3 to 20), 10,239 sessions were held across 561 mandals and 8 lakh applications were received. The highest applications were received in Khammam (67,000) followed by Bhadradri Kothagudem (61,000), Warangal (54,000), Jayashankar Bhupalapalli (48,000) and Nalgonda (42,000). The Minister noted that more than 60% of issues, excluding those involving title complexities, have already been resolved, reflecting the responsive nature of the new system introduced by the government. He said special efforts were made to make the process accessible and transparent. On the eve of each revenue conference, free application forms were distributed to farmers in villages. Special MRO-led teams received applications without collecting any fees and provided receipts on the spot. Out of the total received, 3.27 lakh applications have already been digitised and registered online. The Minister alleged that the revenue system, once destroyed and paralysed by political negligence, was now being rebuilt with the trust of the people. The implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act was launched on April 14 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

India is the future; Telangana will continue to tell its story: KTR at Oxford University
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) articulated how India's youngest State, Telangana, has emerged as a beacon of inclusive development, resilience, and economic transformation. 'India is the future, and Telangana will continue to tell its story,' he said, delivering a talk organised by the Oxford India Forum at Oxford University, on the theme 'Governing Innovation – A Telangana Case Study.' KTR highlighted how the State's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown from ₹4 lakh crore to ₹15 lakh crore, and its per capita income has surged from ₹1.12 lakh to ₹3.57 lakh. He also spoke of the immense strides Telangana made in attracting global investments. Hyderabad, the State capital, is now home to the world's largest campuses of Amazon and other top global tech companies. The State also houses the world's largest innovation campus, T-Hub, which fosters thousands of startups. Telangana is also a global pharmaceutical hub, producing one-third of the world's vaccines, he explained. Responding to a question on replicating Telangana's success in other Indian states, KTR argued for a strong institutional framework that encouraged cooperative federalism. He stressed the need for a 'big brother' role the Union Government has to play in helping States complement each other's strengths rather than compete destructively. The former Minister also addressed the contentious issue of redistricting and regional disparities in India. He argued that basing the redrawing of Lok Sabha boundaries solely on population would unfairly penalise southern states like Telangana that have effectively implemented population control measures. Instead, he advocated for a GDP-based formula to reward high-performing States and ensure equitable representation in Parliament.

Anna University sexual assault case: Plea in Madras High Court insists on inquiring Annamalai to find out who is that ‘sir'
A writ petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Direcor General of Police (DGP) and the Inspector of Kotturpuram police station in Chennai to conduct an inquiry regarding Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) former State president K. Annamalai's claim that he was in possession of certain records related to the Anna University sexual assault case. The writ petition (criminal) has been numbered and expected to be listed before Justice P. Velmurugan this week. Advoate M.L. Ravi, also the president of Desiya Makkal Sakthi Katchi, had filed the petition. The petitioner had sought a direction to the DGP to instruct the Inspector to register a First Information Report (FIR) on the basis of a complaint lodged by the writ petitioner on May 31, 2025. The petitioner stated that a woman engineering student had been subjected to sexual abuse at the Anna University campus in Chennai by biriyani seller D. Gnanasekar on December 23, 2024. According to the victim, the aggressor had intervened when she was close with her boyfriend and threatened that he would disclose the incident to the top brass of the college if she does not budge to his sexual desire. The victim had also claimed that the aggressor had spoken on phone to someone by referring to the person on the other end as 'sir' and used the phone call to sexually assault her. Most Opposition political parties in the State wanted to know 'Who was that sir?' However, the police, continued to maintain that Gnanasekar had operated alone and that he had only pretended to talk to someone while keeping his phone on flight mode. Anna University sexual assault case: SIT charge sheet claims phone of sole accused Gnanasekar was on flight mode On the other hand, Mr. Annamalai, made a persistent claim all through that he was in possession of Gnanasekar's call records and that there was more to the crime than what meets the eye. Yet, the police did not choose to inquire him regarding the reported materials in his possession, despite a specific representation made by the writ peitioner in February 2025 and ended up filing a charge sheet only against Gnanasekar. After a speedy trial, the Mahila Court in Chennai convicted Gnanasekar on May 28, 2025 and pronounced the sentence on June 2, 2025. Even after the conviction, Mr. Annamalai continued to maintain that he was in possession of records to prove the link of others too. Therefore, the petitioner had lodged a complaint with the police on May 31, 2025 to inquire Mr. Annamalai in connection with the case. He wanted this complaint to be registered, and an inquiry initiated to find out if there was really any 'sir' involved in the crime.
