New Judge Dredd Movie in the Works From Thor: Ragnarok Director
Created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, the Judge Dredd character first appeared in the British weekly anthology comic 2000 AD in the late 1970s. He quickly became a popular pop culture figure and went on to headline two live-action movies: 1995's Judge Dredd by Sylvester Stallone and 2012's Dredd with Karl Urban.
Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, a new Judge Dredd movie is in the works from Taika Waititi.
What else do we know about the new Judge Dredd movie?
The script for the new Judge Dredd movie is being written by Drew Pearce, who has worked on projects such as 2013's Iron Man 3, 2015's Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation, 2019's Hobbs & Shaw, 2024's The Fall Guy, and more.
Chris Kingsley, Jason Kingsley, and Ben Smith of Rebellion Developments are producing the movie alongside Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, Jeremy Platt, Natalie Viscuso, and Pearce.
Official plot details remain under wraps at this time; however, The Hollywood Reporter's article notes that the pitch 'is said to take inspiration more from the comics than the previous screen iterations, leaning into the world-building and dark humor. It is also meant to be a fun sci-fi blockbuster that nonetheless speaks to this moment in culture. The desire is to see the movie launch a Dredd universe that could be explored with additional movies and shows across various platforms.'
Waititi and Pearce reportedly grew up reading Judge Dredd comics and 'are friends who have been trying to find a project to work on together for years.'
While best known for directing 2017's Thor: Ragnarok and 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi won the Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award in 2020 for writing Jojo Rabbit. His filmography also includes 2007's Eagle vs Shark, 2010's Boy, 2014's What We Do in the Shadows, 2016's Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and 2023's Next Goal Wins.

She-Hulk Scene Stealer Welcomes ‘Crossover' Between Madisynn and Superman's Eve Tessmacher
Don't wait up, Wongers. Madisynn King wants to party with Eve Tessmacher, in what could be the most awaited Marvel/DC crossover since Deadpool/Batman #1. WHO IS EVE TESSMACHER? Coming out of the first wave of showings for James Gunn's Superman movie, many were abuzz about Sara Sampaio as Eve Tessmacher. Supervillain Lex Luthor's superfashionable girlfriend is seen forever snapping selfies, and allegedly has 'mutant toes' (per Jimmy Olsen's Caller ID for her) that 'look like someone spilled shrimp cocktail on the floor.' More from TVLine James Gunn: Peacemaker Season 2 'Revolves Around' This Major Superman Movie Element TVLine Asks: Was Ballard Cameo Bittersweet? Will Colbert Go Scorched Earth? Your Superman Spinoff Pick? Did High Potential Cast Ex? And More! Why That One Superman Movie Cameo Is a Pretty Big Deal for Peacemaker Season 2 Without spoiling much of anything, Eve ends up playing an important role in the scheme of things that belies her daffy persona. A fun-loving, borderline-annoying and ultimately scene-stealing young woman in a comic book-based property? It's no small wonder that there has been a call on social media for DC Studios co-CEO Gunn and his Marvel counterpart Kevin Feige to make happen a crossover between Superman's Eve and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's resident party girl, Madisynn King. WHO IS MADISYNN KING? Played by Patti Guggenheim, Madisynn was introduced as a slightly tipsy volunteer assistant to stage magician Donny Blaze, and later appeared in court to testify against him — after she had gotten sucked into an inter-dimensional hellscape and made a blood pact with a talking goat/demon named Jake. Madisynn, who, yes, spells her name with two Ns and one Y (though it's not where you thiiiiink), wound up forming a sweet connection with Mystic Arts master Wong (MCU vet Benedict Wong), and last was seen accidentally spoiling The Sopranos for him during a cozy binge-watch at Kamar-Taj. (Since then, Madisynn was 'heard' but not seen in a panel from the comic book What If… Venom? #3.) Guggenheim recently got wind of the wish for a Madisynn-Tess team up, and promptly shared her endorsement on Threads: 'Honestly, in. Love her.' Interestingly, Guggenheim's Madisynn almost crossed over with Agatha Harkness and her coven, but Agatha All Along head writer Jac Schaeffer just couldn't make it work. 'I really wanted to include Madisynn because I think she's so deeply funny, and she talked about Jake the goat,' Schaeffer recalled in a November House of R podcast. 'We were all banging our heads against the wall trying to figure out, 'How do we make the goat our literal and figurative gateway to getting Madisynn on the [Witches] Road?' and it just didn't work. It was shoe-horning, and I had to let that go.' Superman cast member Sampaio's previous acting credits include an episode of Showtime's Billions, while Guggenheim since She-Hulk's one-and-done run has guested on shows such as Matlock (in Season 1's two-part finale), The Spiderwick Chronicles and the upcoming second season of Peacock's Twisted Metal. Originally, it referred to a white or unmarked space—hence its modern sense of something empty or without content. Jake Larson, World War II veteran turned TikTok star, dead at 102
Jake Larson, the World War II veteran and social media star known as 'Papa Jake,' has died, his granddaughter posted on his social media accounts Saturday. He was 102. 'Our beloved Papa Jake has passed away on July 17th at 102 years young. Please know, he went peacefully and was even cracking jokes til the very end,' granddaughter McKaela Larson said in the posts. A member of the nation's 'Greatest Generation,' Larson gained a loyal following on social media as a centenarian, posting as @storytimewithpapajake on TikTok, where he racked up more than 1 million followers with his stories about his life and military service. CNN's Christiane Amanpour interviewed Larson in Normandy, France, in June 2024 on the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Sitting in a wheelchair just steps away from the shoreline, he said he remembered the invasion 'like it was yesterday.' 'I got off the landing craft and had water right up to my chin,' he told CNN. 'We were all kids.' Larson told Amanpour he was just 15 years old when he enlisted in the National Guard — lying about his age at the time. 'I don't think I was a hero. I was just like anybody else. We were all in this together,' he said, adding he was there to tell the stories of his many friends who died during the invasion that turned the tide of the war. Asked by Amanpour whether he and other soldiers knew what they were fighting for at the time, Larson said, 'Oh, definitely. That we knew. Every one of us was prepared to give our life to kick Hitler's ass out of Europe. … And we did.' Just over three weeks ago, Amanpour won an Emmy for her interview with Larson, an honor she shared with him. He reacted to the award in a video sent to Amanpour: 'It's phenomenal. And here I am, little country boy that joins the infantry at 15 years old and I come here now, 102, going on 103 and I'm winning something like this? There is a God.' 'My dad had an epic, epic life,' his son, Karlan Larson said in a brief phone interview with CNN. His father's Emmy is 'proudly displayed' in his living room, which Karlan Larson told CNN would be 'handed down to family members — the grandkids will have to figure out a schedule.' Jake Larson was 'overjoyed' that Amanpour shared her statue with him, his son said.
