Armed teen demands plane at airport before hero pilot stops him: Police
A young teenager brandishing a firearm demanded a plane at Arkansas Texarkana Regional Airport before he was disarmed by a pilot packing a gun on Tuesday, law enforcement authorities reported.
The boy, 15, entered the airport shortly before 7:35 a.m. with both a handgun and an AR-style rifle, said authorities with the Texarkana Police Department in Arkansas. He walked up to an airline ticket counter and ordered workers to get him a plane, said officials.
A witness who saw the exchange managed to flee the area and alerted others to what had happened. Some employee managed to back away, lock themselves in a safe room and called 911.
The suspect, meanwhile, exited the building and began walking on the airfield.
A pilot working for a private flight service at the airport who was made aware of the incident retrieved his own firearm from his truck, approached the suspect and ordered him down on the ground, according to police.
The suspect complied. The pilot then disarmed him, and authorities quickly arrived to take the teen into custody, police reported.
No one was injured in the confrontation.
The juvenile suspect faces charges of aggravated assault, attempted aggravated robbery and terroristic threatening. He was transferred to an Arkansas juvenile detention center. A district attorney will later decide on formal charges.
Police did not identify the suspect, as is common in cases involving minors.
'The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department applauds the heroic act by the local pilot,' said a police statement. 'The fact that this incident was resolved quickly and peacefully, despite the extreme danger presented, is highly commendable.'
Airport Director Paul Mehrlich told KSLA-TV: 'We want everybody to know the airport is safe and secure and flights will be going out as usual.'
He added: 'We are thankful that there were no injuries, no lives lost, but it really was through the actions of this pilot and the staff at Signature Aviation that their actions saved lives.'

The scene was wild, with reporters running for the elevators or sprinting across the outdoor promenade to get a closer look. Ye's appearance was notable partly because so few high-profile celebrities have publicly aligned themselves with Diddy since he came under federal investigation. However, Ye didn't enter the courtroom. He left the building after about 30 minutes, following a brief stop in the overflow area. In other news: Maurene Comey, one of the prosecutors, complained to the judge that Diddy was 'nodding emphatically' as his ex-girlfriend Jane and the Homeland Security agent testified. Steel pushed back, saying his client has been 'nothing but professional.' He appeared engaged in the proceedings, seeming to listen closely to the federal agent's testimony and regularly passing sticky notes to his attorneys. 👨⚖️ Analysis: The character question By Danny Cevallos One thing federal prosecutors are really good at is finding a way to bring in evidence that has little to do with the alleged crimes, but makes the defendant look really bad. We've heard a lot of testimony about Diddy's girlfriends finding out about his apparent romantic trips with other women. We've heard about Combs getting caught going to the Caribbean with another woman. More recently, Jane and Perez testified about Jane finding out Diddy took another woman on a trip to Wyoming. Diddy cheating on his girlfriends has virtually nothing to do with sex trafficking or racketeering. It shows how assistants helped cover up and facilitate Diddy's lifestyle. But the cheating? Not really essential to any element of a crime. Instead, there's one piece of evidence that the prosecution wants to introduce but is largely prohibited from doing so: his bad character. Evidence of a defendant's lousy morality is usually inadmissible because it's unfair. We don't want juries convicting defendants because they are bad people. We want juries to convict defendants because they are guilty of that particular crime. Evidence of bad character is just too powerful: It's hard for us to give anyone — let alone a criminal defendant — a fair chance after we've heard they've done terrible things. Prosecutors know this. That's why they try to find ways to crowbar this kind of evidence into the case (lawfully, of course). The prosecution is expected to rest its case sometime next week. Moment cab passenger dives out of car to avoid paying fare

Footage captured the woman dived out of a white Renault travelling at speed on a road in Itapetininga in Sao Paulo state, Brazil. The passenger is seen tumbling out of the rear right door of the car and landing on the road, before managing to pick herself up and limp away. Local media reported that she began to make her escape as soon as the cab driver requested the fare. A passing cyclist is seen appearing to stop to check if she was ok, before she is seen walking off. The taxi driver claimed he was about to drive to the police station after the woman said she didn't have the cash to pay for her journey. She had also given a different name on the way to the town centre to the one the trip was booked under. She was travelling with Ubiz Car, a local Uber-style ride-hailing service in Brazil. As of 2022, the app covered 24 cities in the country and had more than 5,000 drivers on its books. The lady eventually paid the fare, totalling 10.40 Brazilian reals (or £1.38) by bank transfer. In Brazil, cab hailings apps including Uber offer cash as a payment option when calling a ride. More Trending Last month, the Uber trialled accepting cash payments for all journeys in the UK outside London. Drivers can however opt out of accepting physical money if they are don't wish to handle the notes and coins or are concerned about passengers running off without paying – known as bilking. Two killers chased stranger into Tube station and stabbed him with zombie knife
Two young men who chased a stranger into a Tube station and stabbed him to death with a zombie knife in front of horrified commuters are facing a life sentence. Milumo Pedrinho and Kevin Nguyen, both 21, have been convicted of murdering 33-year-old Ervin Baraku, who died after being attacked at Seven Sisters Underground station in north London, on the morning of July 23 last year. Jurors were shown footage of the pair following their victim down the steps before Pedrinho pulled out a foot-long blade with a serrated edge and plunged it into Mr Baraku's chest. Pedrinho previously pleaded guilty to murder and Nguyen was found guilty of the same charge following a two-week trial at Inner London Crown Court. He had denied murder and manslaughter. Michael Williams, prosecuting, told jurors during Nguyen's trial: 'On July 23 last year, the defendant encountered Ervin Baraku on the pavement on Seven Sisters Road. 'Mr Baraku left, repeatedly looking back over his shoulder. The defendant immediately went to the home address of Mr Pedrinho, depositing his puppy and setting off again with Mr Pedrinho armed with a zombie knife. 'Within 12 minutes, Ervin Baraku would be chased into the Underground by these two men and stabbed to the chest with the knife.' Mr Williams told jurors the murder was not 'committed by Mr Pedrinho in isolation' but was carried out 'with the support and encouragement' of Nguyen. The court heard Nguyen spotted Mr Baraku while out walking with a short while before the stabbing. After crossing the road and approaching him, the pair spent around 19 seconds speaking before going their separate ways. Mr Williams said only two people know what was said between them – Mr Baraku, who was dead within minutes of the conversation, and Nguyen, who gave no comment to police and declined to give evidence in his defence. 'We simply do not know what the motive is, or the reason Mr Baraku was murdered,' he said. But he added: 'We say you can safely infer that that interaction with the defendant was intrinsic to Mr Baraku's murder some 10 minutes later.' Nguyen went straight to Pedrinho's home nearby, with the pair quickly setting off again 'intent on violence'. 'We know that Mr Pedrinho had a large knife, and we know that the defendant is no stranger to possessing dangerous weapons himself,' Mr Williams added. Jurors heard Nguyen has two previous convictions for having a knife, in relation to a machete when he was 16 and a Rambo-style knife three years later. Mr Williams said of Nguyen: 'This is an individual accustomed to possessing knives in public, and there would undoubtedly have been a discussion about the weapon to be taken and who would have it.' Further CCTV footage shows the pair walking through the streets with their hoods up. Jurors were told Pedrinho's right hand stays in his pocket where the knife is hidden, 'ready to go at a moment's notice'. The stabbing itself was caught on CCTV footage from inside the station. It shows Mr Baraku falling to the ground where he looks up at Pedrinho chasing behind him with his arms outspread. The court heard witnesses screamed as he pulled out the zombie knife and stabbed Mr Baraku in the chest. Nguyen followed them down the stairs seconds after the fatal blow was struck and quickly fled with the knifeman. His barrister Naeem Mian KC told jurors the prosecution was 'overreaching', adding there was 'no evidence' he knew his friend was carrying a knife. He said the two previous convictions for carrying blades makes him stupid, but not a murderer. However, Mr Williams said: 'He knew what was going to happen, what was intended, and this was part of the plan.' More Trending Detective Superintendent Sam Blackburn said: 'This was an absolutely senseless and tragic attack that resulted in a man losing his life. 'There is absolutely no place for violence on the railway network, so I am glad to see both Nguyen and Pedrinho will be put behind bars for their part in this brutal murder. 'While no prison sentence can ever make up for the loss of a loved one, I hope justice being served can bring Ervin's family some peace after this horrific ordeal.'
