Singer Enya spotted in public for the first time in EIGHT years as reclusive star makes rare trip outside £98m castle

The Sun29-05-2025
ENYA has been spotted for the first time in eight years after becoming notorious for her reclusive lifestyle.
The Irish vocalist spends much of her time hunkered down in her vast Victorian castle near Dublin, with U2 lead vocalist Bono, 65, as her next door neighbour.

Yet a new snap has seen the 64-year-old Caribbean Blue hitmaker stepping out from her stunning £98million compound, which she bought in 1997, for a night out.
The vocalist could be seen smiling as she posed for a picture with a bunch of others.
She could be seen donning a black lace top and flowing yellow skirt, accessorising with a silver bracelet.
The chart star, famed for tracks including Orinoco Flow and Only Time, styled her brunette hair poker straight with a wispy fringe.
She kept her make-up fresh as she attended a wedding at Drumhalla House in Donegal on May 16.
Fans were quick to gush over the fresh snap on Reddit, which marked her last public appearance since the Grammy's in 2017.
One wrote: "Glad to see them and Enya doing well."
A second posted: "Omg, I'm so happy to see her finally," as a third put: "Good to see our Enya."
One loyal fan then added: "I recognise her outfit from this 2016 performance of Orinoco Flow in Japan edit: and Enya's live US performance of Echoes in Rain — re-worn very stylishly."
Another mused: "She looks so lovely here, but girl drop the mixtape already omg it's been 10 years."
One simply put: "She looks stunning."
GOING SOLO
Enya's isolated life with her cats has been well-documented.
We previously reported how she also bans herself from listening to other artists' music and once claimed to have never bought an album — to keep her own work as original as possible.
She spends nearly all her waking hours with a much older married couple who for 30 years have helped create her eerie, warbling music.
Songs are painstakingly put together, often overdubbed with vocals more than 500 times.
They are sung in a bizarre mix of languages.
Initially a mixture of English and Gaelic, she now records in Sindarin and Quenya, both created by author JRR Tolkien, and Loxian — which she invented herself with her songwriters.
ENYA'S HISTORY
Eithne Ní Bhraonáin, in Gweedore, Co Donegal, Ireland, she grew up as one of nine siblings.
She was a shy child who loved playing the piano and singing, later explaining how the pandemonium of a large family instilled her lifelong love of being alone and describing silence as a luxury.
At 19 she joined her family's band, Celtic music group Clannad, on synth and backing vocals.
She left two years later, moving into the Dublin home of
Nicky Ryan, 69, the group's producer, and his wife Roma, 61.
Following her acrimonious split from Clannad, the three wrote music together, culminating in her 1987 self-titled debut album. But it was with the release of second LP Watermark the following year that she entered the stratosphere.
Featuring her best-known track, Orinoco Flow (Sail Away), it shifted 11million copies worldwide.
Since then the trio have worked closely on a string of albums which have quietly sold by the bucketload.
She has won four Grammys and got an Oscar nod, for her work on the Lord Of The Rings soundtrack.
The single star previously spoke of her isolated life, music success and juggling love and said: "I am single, yes.
"But as the song suggests, there have been… relationships. It's quite hard to have someone accept that – well, not that they are second to the music, but that I do need a certain amount of space for it."
She added to the Independent: "And even though the person will understand that at the beginning, there is something like jealousy towards the music after a while.
"It's difficult."

Katie Taylor's dad CONFIRMS legendary daughter's relationship status after pics emerge of her wearing ‘wedding ring'

KATIE TAYLOR'S dad Pete has confirmed that the Irish boxing legend is married. In pics ahead of her trilogy bout against Amanda Serrano, the Wicklow fighter appeared to be wearing a ring on her left hand. 2 2 And during an appearance on the Anything Goes podcast with James English, her dad Pete confirmed that she had indeed tied the knot. He said: "Ever since the fight there with Katie, people are seeing the two of us back together, even some of the s*** you hear about that. "I was reading somewhere that Katie Taylor never got married because of her father, he wouldn't let her. "Katie's married, you know, and I'm thinking, 'where are you getting this s*** from?'" Dad and daughter reunited to work together in the lead-up to the 39-year-old's sensational trilogy win over Amanda Serrano on July 11. Pete had coached her during her amateur career, peaking with her winning an Olympic gold medal in London in 2012. However, they parted ways after Pete split from Katie's mum Bridget. Taylor controversially lost her title at the Rio Olympics in 2016 and turned pro later that year, and has been trained by Ross Enamait ever since. In an exclusive interview with the Irish Sun a week on from her victory over the Puerto Rican, Pete sought to dispel preconceptions concerning their relationship. He said: "We posted online that we were training together, but we were still very close. I was still over visiting her. "This is a media thing that me and Katie got back together for the fight. It's not true. "We've always been close, and we've been talking for the last five or six years. It was just that I didn't get involved in the training. "We were always talking boxing. That's just natural. When I call over to her, we go to the gym together. "She just asked me to help out in this camp, and that was it - but it wasn't that we rekindled this relationship. "We were close all the time. "People love these stories. I think they must have boring lives or something, because they're so interested in other people's lives. "I don't post anything about my own personal life on Instagram. Katie's the same, and then, when we put it up, you could say it went viral. "We've always been close. I was actually shocked that it went so viral, to tell you the truth."

Legendary six-time Grammy Award-winning musician dies aged 86

Steve Charnock Published August 1, 2025 1:52pm Updated August 1, 2025 1:52pm Link is copied Comments Flaco Jiménez, the iconic American-Mexican accordionist whose music helped define and push Tejano, Tex-Mex and conjunto styles, has died aged 86. His family confirmed his death on Facebook yesterday evening, writing: 'He was surrounded by his loved ones and will be missed immensely… His legacy will live on through his music and all of his fans. The family requests privacy during this time of sadness' (Picture: Gary Miller/FilmMagic) Born Leonardo Jiménez in San Antonio, Texas, in 1939, 'Flaco' (a nickname meaning 'skinny' that both he and his father shared) was raised in an incredibly musical household. His father, Santiago Jiménez Sr., was a key figure in conjunto music - which has its roots in the Texas-Mexico border region. His grandfather Patricio was also a prominent musician. Flaco joined his dad's band by seven, first playing the bajo sexto before switching to the accordion, which would become his signature instrument (Picture: Michel Linssen/Redferns) Heavily influenced by his father and zydeco legend Clifton Chenier, Jiménez - who would go on to win six Grammys, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015 - soon made his name beyond Tejano circles. He became the go-to accordionist for musical stars across the genres, adding his distinctive sound to a wide range of recordings and albums. His solo work and collaborations made him something of an international ambassador for Mexican-American music. It was a role he warmly and enthusiastically embraced (Picture: Rick Diamond/WireImage) Doug Sahm was one of the first rock musicians to spotlight Jiménez, featuring him on a 1971 solo album of his. That break led to sessions with Ry Cooder, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Los Lobos and David Lindley. Cooder featured Jiménez on his 1976 album Chicken Skin Music, which would lead to an appearance on Saturday Night Live later that year (Picture:for Americana Music) Flaco's solo career thrived alongside his session work. He won his first Grammy in 1986 for Ay Te Dejo en San Antonio. His accordion work was also featured on the 1988 country hit Streets of Bakersfield alongside Dwight Yoakam and Buck Owens, earning him a spot on a No. 1 country single. The three of them would perform together a number of times, to the delight of their fans (Picture: Redferns) In 1989, he co-founded the Texas Tornados with Sahm, Freddy Fender and Augie Meyers. Their hit 'Soy de San Luis,' written by Flaco's father, won them a Grammy. A year earlier, he won another Grammy with the supergroup Los Super Seven. He later joined the Free Mexican Airforce with bluegrass player Peter Rowan (Picture: Frazer Harrison/WireImage) Even in the 1990s and beyond, Jiménez's appeal endured. He played on the Rolling Stones album Voodoo Lounge in 1994 and continued releasing music on his own and with others. In 2024, he received the Founder of the Sound award at the Ameripolitan Awards in Austin, a tribute to his lifelong impact (Picture:) From San Antonio to stages all around the world, Flaco Jiménez was proud to showcase the music of his culture. His name may have meant 'skinny,' but he was a giant of Mexican-American music. One who'll be missed by both those who loved him and those that loved his sound (Picture: Redferns) Next Gallery
