Afghan man arrested in Jabalpur for ‘illegally' obtaining Indian passport, running racket; two others held too
As per a statement from the M.P. Police, the accused — identified as Sohbat Khan, currently residing in Jabalpur, Dinesh Garg and Mahendra Kumar Sukhdan, both residents of Jabalpur — were arrested based on a tip off received by the city unit of the ATS. Mr. Garg is a forest guard in the Forest Guard and has been working in the election cell of the Jabalpur Collectorate for the past two years, the police said.
'The Jabalpur unit of the ATS had received a tip off from an informer that some Afghanistan nationals were living illegally in the city. Sohbat was living illegally in Jabalpur for the last 10 years and he had also married a local woman,' the police said.
Apart from having obtained his own passport using fake documents, Mr. Khan was also getting Indian passports made for his Afghan friends living in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh by preparing documents on wrong addresses in Jabalpur and taking money for them, the police added.
'So far, the ATS has received information about about 20 such Afghan youths whose passports were tried to be made from Jabalpur addresses, out of which passports of Akbar and Iqbal, residents of West Bengal, have been made from fake addresses of Jabalpur,' it said, adding that information about transactions of about ₹10 lakh has been obtained so far.
The police said that Mr. Khan is being questioned to find out about the people helping him in securing police verification, fake addresses from the post office and other necessary documents required for passports.

A six-year-old Indian-origin girl and an Indian chef have become the latest victims of a string of racist attacks targeting Indian nationals and Indian-origin Irish citizens in Ireland. Indian-origin girl attacked in Waterford The girl, born in Ireland to parents from Kottayam, Kerala, was playing outside her home in Waterford City with friends in the evening Monday, when a group of boys and a girl verbally and physically assaulted her. The gang, made up of boys aged between 12 and 14 and a girl around eight, allegedly called her a 'dirty Indian' and told her to 'go back to India'. They then punched her in the face, twisted her hair, hit her neck, and injured her private parts by shoving a bicycle wheel against her. 'She was very upset, she started crying. She couldn't even talk, she was so scared,' her mother told the Irish Mirror, a Dublin-based news outlet, reported Hindustan Times. Her mother, who moved to Ireland eight years ago and recently became an Irish citizen, is a nurse and lives with her husband and children. At the time of the attack, she had stepped inside briefly to feed her 10-month-old baby. The mother said her daughter returned home in tears and has been too frightened to step outside since the incident. She said, even playing in front of their own house no longer feels safe. Despite becoming a citizen, she said her family continues to face discrimination, and now even her children are not spared. Indian chef assaulted and robbed in Dublin In a separate incident on Wednesday morning (local time), Laxman Das, a sous chef from Kolkata working at the Anantara The Marker Dublin hotel, was assaulted near the Hilton Hotel in Dublin while on his way to work, according to a report by The Times of India. He was attacked by three individuals who stole his electric bike, cash, and mobile phone. Das was taken to St Vincent's University Hospital for treatment. Attacks on Indians prompts embassy warning These assaults are the latest in a series of racially motivated attacks reported across Ireland in recent weeks. According to Hindustan Times, at least three attacks targeting Indians were reported in Ireland in July. In Tallaght, a group of 10 teenagers assaulted an Indian man on his way to a local temple, stabbing him multiple times in the face. In Dublin, another Indian man in his 20s was attacked at a tram stop by a group of teenagers. Reports said he was pushed, beaten, and stabbed in the face with a screwdriver. In a separate incident in Dublin, Santosh Yadav, a senior data scientist, was returning to his apartment when he was attacked from behind by six teenagers. Woman held for AQIS propaganda urged Pak Army chief to invade India during Op Sindoor: ATS
Ahmedabad: A woman arrested by Gujarat ATS for allegedly promoting Al-Qaeda agenda had appealed to Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir to invade India during Operation Sindoor to "unify Muslim lands" under "Project Khilafat", officials have said. Shama Parveen Ansari was arrested from her residence in Bengaluru on July 29 on charges of spreading the propaganda of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), a banned terror outfit, through her social media pages. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) on Wednesday stated Ansari operated two Facebook pages and an Instagram handle with 10,000 followers to share provocative, jihadi and anti-India content of the AQIS and some other radical preachers. On May 9, two days after India launched the Operation Sindoor against terror dens in Pakistan and PoK, Ansari uploaded a post on her FB account appealing Gen Munir to seize the "golden opportunity" to attack India, according to a release issued by ATS. In the FB post, which had the photo of Munir, Ansari stated, "You have a golden opportunity.. adopt Project Khilafat for the implementation of Islam, unify Muslim lands, and march forward to eliminate Hindutva and march forward." In a video Ansari shared on her Instagram account, a preacher can be heard criticising Indian Muslims for extending their support to the Army and condemning the Pahalgam terror attack. In another video clip Ansari shared, the Imam of Lahore's Lal Masjid Abdul Aziz can be heard making provocative statements about establishing the Khilafat System in India through armed revolution against the government, said the release. A third video shows an AQIS leader talking about "Ghazwa-e-Hind" and making provocative calls to unleash violence against the Indian state, particularly targeting members of the Hindu community and institutions of democratic governance, the ATS said. Ansari was linked to one of the four persons nabbed two weeks ago for allegedly sharing the provocative content through their Instagram accounts, as per the ATS. These four persons, including two from Gujarat, were arrested from different locations in a multi-state operation, officials earlier said. All the five individuals have been booked under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
