Tractor-trailer destroyed by fire after colliding with pickup in Turner
May 7—TURNER — A tractor-trailer was destroyed by fire Wednesday morning after a collision with a pickup on Route 4.
Responding to multiple 911 calls, Androscoggin County Sheriff's deputies arrived at 868 Auburn Road/Route 4 around 7:41 a.m. to find leaking diesel fuel spill had sparked a fire that engulfed the big rig, according to a Sheriff's Office Facebook post.
Fox Kein, 51, of Cornish was driving his 2023 Chevrolet pickup truck north on the road when he crossed the centerline and collided with a Western Star tractor-trailer driven by Roger Eastman, 82, of Milan, New Hampshire, the post said.
Both drivers were transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with injuries not considered life-threatening, the Facebook post said.
"The impact caused the commercial vehicle's fuel tank to rupture, igniting a fire that fully consumed the tractor-trailer," the post said, adding that both vehicles were total losses.
Firefighters were able to put out the blaze as traffic on Route 4 was closed off between County Road and Lower Street for about five-and-a-half hours.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was called to the scene to clean up the diesel spill.
Deputies, emergency personnel and fire departments from Auburn, Greene, Leeds and Livermore responded to the scene ,the post said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing and further details were unavailable.

"Any violent offenses that have been engaged in -- people are looking at years of state prison time for these criminal violations."The DA will also be tracking who is considered a 'professional agitator,' with prior cases of violent demonstrations. Hochman says this is not a 'catch and release' mission. These individuals will face serious charges. Charleston Police Dept. seeking help in identifying masked subject
CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — The Charleston Police Department is looking for information on a masked individual and is turning to the public for help in identifying them. Two airlifted after crash involving concrete truck in Coles Co. In a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon, the department posted five security camera photos of a subject wearing a black mask, green hoodie, black backpack, black gloves and blue jeans among other things. However, the department did not provide a specific reason as to why they are seeking information on this person. Charleston Police is asking anyone who can help identify this person to reach out to detectives at 217-345-8403. Additionally, those wishing to stay anonymous can use the P3 Tips website to submit the information they have on the individual. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country musician Conner Smith fatally hit a pedestrian while driving his truck in Nashville over the weekend, and he currently faces no charges as an investigation continues, police said. Metro Nashville Police said Smith, 24, hit Dorothy Dobbins, 77, Sunday evening while she was crossing the road inside a marked crosswalk. Dobbins, a retired attorney, later died at a hospital. The Tennessee Bar Association posted on its website that Dobbins had been out walking her dog when she was hit. Police say Smith showed no signs of impairment. They believe the 'preliminary contributing factor' appears to be that Smith did not yield the right of way to the pedestrian. Smith's attorney, Worrick Robinson, said his client is cooperating with the investigation. 'His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time," Robinson said in a statement. Dobbins was a leader in the city's legal aid and family law communities, where she practiced for over 40 years, according to posts by the Bar Association and the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands. She played a 'foundational role in opening Nashville's first domestic violence shelter,' according to a Facebook post from the Legal Aid Society, and she wrote the state's first order of protection legislation. Smith was a 2024 new male artist of the year nominee at the Academy of Country Music Awards. He released his first full-length album, 'Smoky Mountains,' in 2024.
