NIA arrests two Karnal men in ‘Dunki' case of Ambala
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday arrested two accused, both residents of Haryana's Karnal, in the case of human trafficking of illegal immigrants to the United States via the infamous Dunki route. A total of ₹ 42 lakhs was paid in installments by him and his family to the syndicate. The accused were identified as Ravi Kumar and Gopal Singh, both natives of Karnal, who were taken into custody during extensive searches carried out by the NIA at four locations in Haryana and Punjab. While two locations were searched in Karnal, NIA teams converged on one location each in Yamunanagar and Gurdaspur of Punjab during the wee hours of the day, the agency said in a statement. 'The digital devices and other material seized during the searches is being examined for further evidence about the criminal conspiracy linked to the immigration racket,' the statement read. NIA said that its investigations revealed that Ravi and Gopal, were part of a transnational syndicate that lured Indian citizens with false promises of legal travel to the US. The agency further said that Gopal had conspired with one Jai Kumar, another key accused, and Ravi in the illegal immigration of several victims. As per the NIA findings so far, he not only managed hotel bookings and the travel itineraries of the victims but also acted as an agent for other co-victims. 'He assisted other accused in collecting payments from the victims and their families,' the NIA said. The case relates to the illegal immigration to the US of Shubham Saini, a resident of Ambala's Naraingarh, who was apprehended by the authorities in the USA at the border and deported to India in January this year. In his complaint to the police, Saini had alleged that he was taken to the US through South and Central American countries, he was held in captivity abroad, and subjected to abuse and extortion at multiple stages. A total of ₹42 lakhs was paid in installments by him and his family to the syndicate.

A Facebook post has surfaced on social media in which Dhillon is seen admitting the gang's role behind attacks at Kapil Sharma's cafe and sending a stern warning to the comedian. What Happened At Kapil Sharma's Canada Cafe? Shots were fired at comedian and actor Kapil Sharma's cafe in Canada on Thursday morning, the second such incident in a month. Kap's Café, located in Surrey, British Columbia, is owned by comedian Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Chatrath. A purported video of the attack surfaced on social media in which at least 25 gunshots were heard. The cafe came under a similar attack on July 10, which authorities believe was orchestrated by the Laddi gang linked to the banned Khalistani terrorist outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). When Kapil Sharma Reacted To The Attack At His Cafe Last week, Kapil Sharma, in a collaborative post with his wife, Ginni, shared a video of officials visiting his café as they enjoyed a peaceful meal. However, what caught everyone's attention was the caption of the post, in which Kapil made it clear that they do not support any sort of violence. 'Thank you Mayor Brenda Locke, @surreypoliceservice and all the officials who visited @thekapscafe_ to show their love and support. United we stand against violence. We're truly grateful," the comedian wrote. Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. 'Harsimrat was innocent bystander': Canadian police arrest man months after Indian student killed; investigation still under way
Canada Police have arrested a 32-year-old man, Jerdaine Foster , in Niagara Falls , Ontario, charging him with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Harsimrat Randhawa , a 21-year-old Indian student. Acting Det.-Sgt. Daryl Reid announced at a Thursday press conference that Foster faces three additional charges of attempted murder, CBC news reported. Randhawa, who had travelled from India for her studies, succumbed to her injuries in hospital after being struck by a stray bullet on April 17. The incident occurred near a bus stop at Upper James Street and South Bend Road intersection, shortly after she disembarked from a bus. Reid said that Randhawa was an innocent victim who was returning from her gym session when the incident occurred. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 25 Brilliant Plant Hacks That Will Change the Way You Grow Things Learn More Undo "Harsimrat was an innocent bystander. She was simply trying to make her way home from a local gym when she was struck and killed," CBC news quoted Reid as saying. The shooting stemmed from a confrontation involving at least seven individuals in four vehicles. The investigation continues as authorities seek other suspects. Foster, who has connections to Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions, resided in temporary accommodation and was previously known to authorities. Multiple firearms were involved in the exchange of gunfire between vehicles. Chief Frank Bergen linked this incident to another tragic case involving Belinda Sarkodie, 26, who lost her life in July under similar circumstances. A 17-year-old suspect remains wanted in connection with Sarkodie's death. The five-month investigation leading to Foster's arrest was described by Bergen as complex but provided relief to affected communities. Randhawa was pursuing occupational physiotherapy at Mohawk College in her second year, as per CBC news. Her professor, Micheline Lancia, shared at a memorial service: "It's very, very overwhelming to see a student who was doing so well, gentle, respectful, a little bit timid — she would have been a beautiful health-care worker. So, it's a loss to everybody."
