Egypt's Petroleum Min. Affirms Full Support for Exploration Plans in Nile Delta
Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has reiterated the government's full support for Dana Gas and its exploration efforts in the onshore Nile Delta, during a high-level meeting with the company's CEO, Richard Hall, on Wednesday.
The meeting, described as extensive and strategic, reviewed Dana Gas's current activities in Egypt and discussed its future development plans in its concession areas.
Minister Badawi commended the company's performance and technical achievements, expressing appreciation for the efforts of its operational teams.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Petroleum remains committed to supporting international partners through a coordinated and integrated framework, aimed at overcoming challenges and accelerating the production timeline for new discoveries.
'Supporting exploration and fast-tracking discoveries into production aligns with our national strategy to increase domestic output and meet market needs for gas and petroleum products,' Badawi said.
On his part, Dana Gas CEO Richard Hall hailed Egypt as a strategic partner and a central pillar of the company's regional investment portfolio, citing the promising geological potential of the Nile Delta and other Egyptian basins. He confirmed the company's desire to intensify exploration and expedite development operations to bring newly discovered wells online more quickly.
Hall also expressed appreciation for Minister Badawi's recent visit to the Begonia-2 well site in the New Mansoura onshore concession, operated by Wasco Petroleum in partnership with Dana Gas. He described the visit as a strong message of encouragement and motivation to the technical teams working on the ground.
'Minister Badawi's field visit was a significant morale boost that reaffirmed our joint commitment to sustainable growth in Egypt's upstream sector,' Hall said.

UNESCO, Morocco Launch $6M Africa Development Deal
By Ahmad El-Assasy UNESCO, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), and the OCP Foundation have signed a new cooperation agreement in Paris, committing $6 million to a tripartite platform aimed at advancing Africa-centered development agendas between 2025 and 2027. According to a statement by UM6P, the agreement—signed by Mostafa Terrab, Chairman of the OCP Group, and Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO—seeks to reinforce an alliance based on shared ambitions to address the pressing challenges facing the African continent. Integrated Approach to Education, Science, and Culture The initiative emphasizes cross-sector collaboration by integrating education, science, technology, and cultural heritage as interlinked drivers of sovereign, inclusive, and sustainable development. The program will be jointly implemented by UM6P and UNESCO, with strategic and financial backing from the OCP Foundation. The three parties have collaborated since 2017, driven by shared values including long-term investment in knowledge systems, the transformative role of higher education, and locally rooted innovation. The agreement is built around five complementary thematic pillars, each governed by a separate agreement. This modular structure allows for tailored governance models, timelines, and implementation mechanisms suited to the specific topic areas. Focus on AI, Heritage, and Innovation in Africa Mostafa Terrab hailed the partnership as a catalyst for innovation and impact in Africa, emphasizing themes such as artificial intelligence as a key enabler for heritage valorization, innovation, empowerment, and sustainable development. He stressed the continent's ability to adapt to and accelerate transformative change through unified efforts in education, culture, and emerging technologies. Audrey Azoulay reaffirmed UNESCO's commitment to Africa, saying: 'Africa lies at the heart of UNESCO's priorities. Palestinian PM, UNDP Discuss Emergency Relief Efforts in Gaza and West Bank
By Ahmad El-Assasy Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa met with the newly appointed UNDP Special Representative in Palestine, Jaco Cilliers, to discuss ongoing relief efforts and emergency response coordination in Gaza, amid worsening humanitarian conditions. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Stephane Salameh, and Minister of Social Development, Samah Hamad. According to WAFA News Agency, the discussions focused on strengthening joint work with international relief organizations operating in Gaza, and improving coordination through the government's central operations room overseeing emergency response. Prime Minister Mustafa emphasized the critical role of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in supporting the Palestinian people, contributing to national development, and enhancing the capacity of state institutions through institutional reform and infrastructure support. Urgent Appeal to Open Crossings into Gaza Mustafa stressed the urgent need to intensify international pressure to fully open Gaza's crossings to allow the entry of life-saving aid, warning of a deepening famine affecting hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the besieged enclave. He called for coordinated relief and emergency interventions, not only in Gaza but also in response to escalating violence in the West Bank, particularly the northern areas where Israeli forces and settlers have launched repeated raids, demolished refugee camps, and destroyed critical infrastructure. Microsoft Bans Chinese Engineers from Pentagon Cloud Operations
Taarek Refaat Microsoft announced on Friday that it has revised its internal practices to stop engineers based in China from providing technical support to U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) cloud clients, according to CNBC. The change comes in response to growing concerns about national security and cybersecurity threats posed by foreign-based personnel working on sensitive U.S. government cloud infrastructure. The announcement follows a detailed report by ProPublica earlier this week revealing the extent of the Pentagon's reliance on Chinese-based Microsoft engineers, particularly those supporting the company's Azure cloud services. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Microsoft's Chief Communications Officer Frank Shaw wrote: 'In response to concerns raised earlier this week regarding foreign engineers under U.S. supervision, Microsoft has made changes to our support for U.S. government clients to ensure that no engineering teams based in China are providing technical support for the Department of Defense cloud or related services.' In 2019, Microsoft secured a $10 billion cloud contract with the Pentagon, although it was canceled in 2021 following legal disputes. A year later, the DoD awarded a combined $9 billion in cloud contracts to Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Oracle. According to ProPublica, Chinese Microsoft engineers working on Azure were under the supervision of U.S.-based "digital escorts", staff with lesser technical expertise tasked with overseeing foreign support teams.
