KFC Australia brings back a fan favourite menu item with a spicy surprise
KFC have today released a limited-edition Habanero sauce version of their popular Hot & Crispy Boneless chicken, and it is set to be a must-try for spicy food lovers.
The upgraded Hot & Crispy Boneless chicken sees the classic crispy golden coated chicken served with a drizzle of blazing hot Habanero sauce.
KFC Australia's Group Marketing Director Sally Spriggs says the addition of Habanero spicy sauce turns up the heat on the already fan beloved Hot & Crispy chicken pieces.
'Hot & Crispy has fast become a crowd favourite since its launch a few years back and now we're taking it to a whole new level with our specially crafted Habanero sauce,' Sally said.
Habanero Hot & Crispy is available at KFC restaurants nationwide from Tuesday 22nd April until 6 May 2025.
It will be available as a three or six-piece snack, or as part of a combo with chips and a drink. It is also included in a Habanero Hot & Crispy Boneless Variety Feast, which includes six-pieces of Habanero Hot & Crispy, four Original Tenders, six Nuggets, Potato & Gravy, regular corn, large chips, and a drink.
Furthermore, the Marketing Director hints that this new limited-edition menu item is just the first of a number of upcoming spicy special additions to the KFC menu.
'Plus, we have even more spicy surprises throughout the month, so stay tuned!' Sally hinted.
Habaneros are a variety of chili peppers renowned as one of the hottest in the world.
It has a very high score on the spice index, rated between 150,000 – 300,000 Scoville heat units. This can be compared to standard bell peppers, which have 0 Scoville heat units. Jalapenos on the other hand have 3500 to 8000 Scoville heat units.
Spicy food connoisseurs regard habanero as a superior pepper thanks to its combination of spiciness and vibrant flavours, combining fruity and floral taste with a fiery heat.
Habanero is often included in hot sauces and salsas - with those condiments commonly added onto Mexican foods.
Despite containing a strong chili kick, habanero hot sauce isn't uncomfortable to consume, unlike other spicy sauces.
Habaneros are also renowned for having several health benefits, such as boosting metabolism and reducing inflammation.
Habanero peppers are a treasure trove of potent antioxidants like capsaicin, flavonoids and carotenoids.
Capsaicin in particular is revered as antioxidant that helps lower LDL cholesterol. It's also renowned for encouraging thermogenesis in the body, helping the body burn fat more efficiently.
Habaneros are also high in vitamin C, which supports immune health, skin repair, and antioxidant protection.
KFC Australia delighted fans earlier this year by rolling out a limited edition Zinger Nachos across Australia.
The Mexican-styled menu-item featured everything nacho lovers desire: Salsa, guacamole, cheese and crunchy corn chips.
It also came topped with Zinger strips and was described as a 'hands-on food'
'Guys they are really good,' one fan wrote online - hours after they became available in store.
'Lordy, lordy, lord,' added another.
But some people were not impressed.
'All that and they still won't bring Krushers back,' one man said.
'Would rather original recipe strips on this,' said another.
