Blitzboks: Sevens World Championship fixtures
The Blitzboks will be hoping to fare better in the winner-takes-all World Championship in Los Angeles this weekend than they did in Sevens Series league campaign.
The Blitzboks finished as one of the top eight men's teams at the end of the Singapore event [which took place at the start of April], and will head into the winner-takes-all World Championship in Los Angeles on 3-4 May at Dignity Health Sports Park.
LA will also play host to the high stakes promotion and relegation play-off competition that sees the top four men's and women's teams from the Sevens Challenger join the bottom-four ranked teams in the Sevens Series standings at the end of the sixth round in Singapore to fight for the highly coveted places in future Sevens Series events.
Every single member in this current Blitzboks squad has been part of at least one career sevens tournament victory, something Philip Snyman feels can be replicated in the USA.
'This format, with only eight teams competing in two pools, is challenging, but we have beaten France, Great Britain and Argentina before this year, so I am confident that we will progress to the semi-finals on day two,' he said.
The Blitzbok coach said he has some game plans ready for the pool matches: 'We have a variety of combinations available, and I am looking at the best ones for each opponent.
'We had a poor match in our last outing against Great Britain, France remain a very competitive team and Argentina have just won the series, so it will be really challenging.
'Our record in the once-off tournaments has been good though and I know we leave Cape Town on Sunday well prepared and determined to finish the season with a performance that everyone can be proud of.'

Orlando Pirates transfers: Bucs beat Chiefs to marquee man, Rulani flirting?
Orlando Pirates have beaten Kaizer Chiefs to the signing of a talented PSL 23-year-old. We also have an update on Rulani Mokwena. Former Sundowns manager Rulani Mokwena has vacated his post as head coach of Wydad AC. The 38-year-old has been strongly linked with a return to Orlando Pirates, and Rulani isn't doing much to quell those rumours. He served as Josef Zinnbauer's assistant in the 2019-2020 campaign. Well, the versatile star can operate at right-back or in central midfield. This will be a considerable boost for the Pirates technical team; although they have a strong squad at their disposal, both full-back positions are a relative weak spot. With experience in the second tier, it's also hoped that he's ready for a battle. There are reports that Pirates are also close to wrapping up a deal for Baroka's winger Kabelo Kgositsile. He's opened up about the imminent move, which is a bittersweet one. Mashiloane player profile Orlando Pirates have moved quickly to secure a replacement for the departed Miguel Timm. 23-year-old Masindi 'Confidence' Nemtajela is the man. The all-action schemer made 17 appearances for Gallants in the league last season, scoring once, supplying two assists and picking up four bookings. Orlando Pirates to beat Kaizer Chiefs for talented PSL winger
Orlando Pirates are in pole position to secure the services of AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi. The 24-year-old talented forward was also in the books of Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs. This week, Soccer Laduma reported that the Buccaneers had secure a three year deal with the KwaZulu-Natal based talent. With Pirates likely to lose Relebohile Mofokeng in the next transfer period, it makes sense for the Sea Robbers to look for a replacement. 'We can say that this Orlando Pirates and Moremi deal is as good as done,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . Yes, it's believed that Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were also interested in him but Pirates have apparently won this race. It's as good as done at the moment,' the insider added. The second source told the publication that the winger has penned a three-year deal with Orlando Pirates. 'Apparently it's a three-year contract. All the involved parties have agreed to a three-year contract. It's believed that all the personal terms between the player and the team have also been agreed. That's why Moremi's Pirates move is as good as done.' Another winger set to part ways with Orlando Pirates is Monnapule Saleng. The 27-year-old attacker hasn't kicked a ball for the Buccaneers since December.
