Report: Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla in Turkiye scouting sharpshooting forward
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla has reportedly made the trip to Turkiye to see a Fenerbahce big man, presumably as a potential depth option at power forward for the Celtics next season. With star Boston swingman Jayson Tatum sidelined for most or even all of the Celtics' 2025-26 campaign, Boston will need to find a way to add depth to the team on the cheap, with the storied ball club simultaneously trying to navigate a way to shrinking a historic payroll and tax bill.
Enter Fenerbahce forward Nigel Hayes-Davis, who has been playing well for the EuroLeague squad this season, putting up 16.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals per game with the Turkish club in EuroLeague play while hitting 42.3% of his 3s and shooting 46.0% from the field overall. Per Eurohoops, Mazzulla "travelled to Turkiye to take a look at" Hayes-Davis.
The 30-year-old, 6-foot-7 wing could help Boston weather the Tatum absence -- as well as help shore up the wing if Boston elects to move off reserve forward Sam Hauser to save money as well.
Hayes-Davis, a native of Westerville, Ohio, has previously played short stints with the Los Angeles Lakers, Toronto Raptors, and Sacramento Kings at the NBA level in the 2017-18 season.
The Wisconsin alum headed overseas to play in the Turkish Basketball Super League and the Euroleague afterward, setting the modern individual player scoring record (50 points) in that league in 2023-24.

Aliyah Boston Makes WNBA History Without Caitlin Clark

Aliyah Boston Makes WNBA History Without Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever aimed to get back above .500 early in the 2025 WNBA season, doing so without All-WNBA guard Caitlin Clark. Advertisement On Tuesday, the Fever (4-4) traveled to Atlanta for the second time this year, facing Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream (5-3). Entering the game, Boston had recorded 245 assists over her three-year career with Indiana. With 9:09 remaining in the third quarter, the former South Carolina center found Kelsey Mitchell for a 17-foot pull-up jumper, marking her fifth assist of the night and the 250th of her career. In doing so, Boston has become the second-fastest center in WNBA history to reach 250+ assists per Polymarket Sports, achieving this feat in 89 career games. To put this into perspective, Phoenix Mercury forward Alyssa Thomas, who averages 8.0 assists per game this year, didn't reach 250 assists until her 95th game. Clark holds the overall record for fastest to reach 250 assists, doing so in 31 games into her rookie season. Advertisement Boston made the WNBA All-Star team in each of her first two seasons with the Fever. Through their first eight games this year, she is averaging 15.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists. Indiana Fever forward Aliyah Boston (7)Brett Davis-Imagn Images While Boston has found some success over the past four games, she has yet to score more than 20 points without Clark. With her All-WNBA point guard in the lineup, Boston has reached 20 or more points in two of four games. Clark suffered a quad strain in a May 24 loss to the New York Liberty, leaving her out for the previous five games. However, she could return for the Fever's next matchup, facing the Liberty once again on Saturday. Celtics' Brad Stevens Announces Kristaps Porzingis News on Monday

The Boston Celtics unexpectedly lost to the New York Knicks in the second round this season after winning the 2024 NBA Finals. However, they weren't at full strength, as Jaylen Brown played through a partial meniscus tear, Kristaps Porzingis played through an illness, and Jayson Tatum tore his Achilles at the end of Game 4. Porzingis averaged just 4.2 points on 24 percent shooting (22.2 percent 3 PT) with 3.7 rebounds in 15.5 minutes against the Knicks after averaging 12 points on 35.2 percent shooting (11.8 percent 3 PT) with 5.8 rebounds in 27.4 minutes against the Orlando Magic in the first round. Advertisement Celtics general manager Brad Stevens announced the latest on Porzingis during his end-of-season presser on Monday, via The Athletic's Jay King. Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis (8)Bill Streicher-Imagn Images "Brad Stevens said the way Kristaps Porzingis' illness was described to him was as 'post-viral syndrome,'" he reported. "Said playoff basketball was not conducive to helping him feel better." "Thinks Porzingis will be aided by a couple of weeks of rest but thinks it will be 'well cleared up' by the time he plays for Latvia in Eurobasket," he continued. Porzingis averaged 19.5 points on 48.3 percent shooting (41.2 percent 3 PT) with 6.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists across 28.8 minutes in the regular season. The 7-foot-2-inch, 240-pounder has played 99 regular season and 18 postseason games since the Washington Wizards traded him to Boston in 2023. Advertisement New York drafted Porzingis fourth overall in 2015 and he made the All-Star team in 2018. The Knicks then traded him to the Dallas Mavericks in 2019, who traded him to the Wizards in 2022.
