Police said in a statement that Kutina spent her time in the cave meditating by candlelight and that she told investigating officers she was interested in staying in the forest and worshiping God. Sridhar said Kutina told police that she had worked as a tutor of Russian language in Goa, a coastal tourist state in southern India. 'It is nothing but her love for adventure that brought her here,' said Sridhar. He said police found pictures of Hindu deities on the inside walls of the cave where Kutina had been living. In a photograph provided by the police, she is seen in front of makeshift curtains made of red saris that covered the entrance to the cave.
The Russian Embassy in New Delhi didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
The police statement said Kutina sent a message to her friends after she was found. 'Our peaceful life in the cave has ended – our cave home destroyed,' she wrote in the message, according to the statement. The Associated Press contacted Kutina over the phone, but she declined to comment. On Tuesday, she told news agency Press Trust of India that she spent her days in the cave by painting, singing, reading books, and living peacefully with her children.

India's financial crime fighting agency has summoned executives of tech giants Google and Meta to its headquarters on Monday as it investigates accusations of money laundering on online betting apps, two government sources said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating whether the platforms eased the way for promotion and wider reach of betting apps through advertisements, the first source said. A date of July 21 has been set for the appearances at the agency's headquarters in the capital, New Delhi, the source added. A second government source accused Google and Meta of using their platforms to promote illegal activities, despite a government advisory against the advertisement of any form of betting. The agency will investigate Google and Meta over the funds they received from betting apps, the second source added, as well as checking if they were advertising or promoting any other betting platforms. Both sources sought anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to media. Google and Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Betting and gambling pose 'significant financial and socio-economic risks for consumers, especially youth and children,' India's information and broadcasting ministry told television channels and digital media in an advisory in 2022. Promotion of offline or online betting and gambling through advertisements was not advised in the larger public interest, the ministry added.

Pakistan says Kashmir tourist attack probe ‘inconclusive' as US blacklists militant group
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan said on Friday a probe into the April killing of 26 tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir remained inconclusive, hours after the United States designated a Lashkar-e-Taiba-affiliated group as a terrorist entity, and accused India of using such listings to spread an anti-Pakistan narrative internationally. The group in question, The Resistance Front (TRF), also known as Kashmir Resistance, was blacklisted by Washington on Thursday as a 'foreign terrorist organization' and 'specially designated global terrorist' in connection with the April 22 attack in Pahalgam. In a statement, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the group had claimed responsibility for the assault before withdrawing its statement, and described TRF as a 'front and proxy' of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based outfit banned under US law. Responding to the development, Pakistan's foreign office said it had 'zero tolerance' for militant entities, though any link between TRF and Lashkar-e-Taiba 'belies ground realities,' noting the latter was a defunct group that had been banned in Pakistan. 'Investigations into the Pahalgam incident, that happened in the internationally recognized disputed region of IIOJK, are still inconclusive,' the statement read, using Pakistan's official abbreviation for Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. 'Pakistan has effectively and comprehensively dismantled concerned outfits, arrested and prosecuted the leadership, and deradicalized its cadres,' it continued. The foreign office also said India had a track record of leveraging such terror listings to deflect global scrutiny from its human rights record in Kashmir and elsewhere. 'India has a track record of exploiting such designations to push anti-Pakistan propaganda with a view to divert international attention from its irresponsible and rogue behavior, including ongoing human rights atrocities, especially in IIOJK,' the statement said. Pakistan cited its cooperation with international partners against extremist groups and the arrest of high-profile militants, including Sharifullah, the alleged mastermind of the 2021 Abbey Gate bombing in Kabul that killed 13 US service members and about 170 Afghan civilians. In April, after India blamed Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack, Islamabad called for a neutral and impartial investigation. The attack triggered days of cross-border hostilities, with India targeting what it described as 'terrorist infrastructure' in Pakistan on May 7. The escalation — involving missiles, drones and artillery — left dozens dead before a ceasefire was announced on May 10. The foreign office said Pakistan urged the international community to adopt 'objective and non-discriminatory policies' on counterterrorism and called for other groups, such as the Majeed Brigade of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), to be designated under US law. The US government has designated The Resistance Front, also known as the Kashmir Resistance, as a ' foreign terrorist organization' following an April 22 militant attack in Indian Kashmir that killed 26 people. The group initially took responsibility for the attack in Pahalgam before denying it days later. Following are some facts about the group. WHAT IS TRF? TRF emerged in 2019 and is considered an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, according to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, a Delhi-based think tank. Indian security officials said TRF uses the name Kashmir Resistance on social media and online forums, where it claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack in Indian Kashmir's Pahalgam area. Lashkar-e-Taiba, listed as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States, is the Islamist group accused of plotting attacks in India and in the West, including the three-day assault on Mumbai in November 2008. 'This is basically a front of the LeT. These are groups which have been created over the last years, particularly when Pakistan was under pressure from the Financial Action Task Force and they were trying to create a pattern of denial that they were involved in terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,' said Ajai Sahni, head of the South Asia Terrorism Portal. HOW HAS THE PROBE ADVANCED? On June 22, India's anti-terror National Investigation Agency said it had arrested two men who harbored three militants involved in the Pahalgam attack. The agency said in a statement that the arrested men had revealed the identities of the attackers, and confirmed they were Pakistani nationals affiliated to the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Islamabad denies any involvement. WHAT HAS THE GROUP DONE? The group has not previously had any large incidents attributed to it, according to Sahni. 'All TRF operations are essentially LeT operations. There will be some measure of operational freedom as to where they hit on the ground, but the sanction would have come from the LeT,' Sahni said. WHAT DOES INDIA SAY ABOUT TRF? India's interior ministry told parliament in 2023 that the group had been involved in the planning of killings of security force personnel and civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. The group also coordinated the recruitment of militants and the smuggling of weapons and narcotics across the border, the ministry said. Intelligence officials told Reuters that TRF had also been issuing online threats against pro-India groups for the past two years. WHAT DOES PAKISTAN SAY? Pakistan has denied that it supports and funds militants in Kashmir, saying it offers only moral and diplomatic support.
