A Franklin County Sheriff's deputy shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked his partner during a chase.

The incident started around 2 p.m. when a deputy tried to stop a car. The driver didn't stop, and a chase began, according to WBNS-10 TV.
A spokesperson from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office said the driver bailed out of the car in northeast Columbus near Century Drive and Mock Road.
The suspect allegedly left the driver's side door open after he got out and ran away, WBNS-10 reported.
At that time, the pit bull got out of the car and bit a deputy in the face.
The deputy's partner then shot and killed the dog, according to the spokesperson.
WBNS-10 reported that the deputy will go to the hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay.
The spokesperson said the suspect was taken into custody and will face felony charges.
The incident remains under investigation.

Kealhofer expressed his desire to return to his role at River Ridge High School, saying, 'It is my ultimate goal to come back and to be the thriving member to society that I was prior to all this nonsense.' Washington couldn't reach Kealhofer's ex-wife for comment. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office defended their investigation, saying, 'We stand by the actions of the lead detective, who conducted a thorough and professional investigation. We remain confident in the integrity of the investigative process. We also fully respect the decision made by the jury.' A spokesperson for the Cherokee County School District acknowledged the incident but did not comment on Kealhofer's potential future employment with the school. Clay County teen pleads not guilty to shooting parents to death
Middleburg 14-year-old Trevor Lee is pleading not guilty to shooting and killing his parents inside their home earlier this month. Action News Jax told you at the start of the month when the Clay County Sheriff's Office announced his arrest, saying Lee had killed both of his parents, David Lee and Brandi Smith. After pleading not guilty, the judge allowed two motions for Lee to provide fingerprints and other 'body material samples,' such as the material under his fingernails, to be entered into evidence for the trial, which is scheduled to start the week of February 10th, 2026. Lee's arrest report says he shot and killed his parents inside their home on the night of August 4th after an argument, then walked a mile away to a nearby church where he called 911. The Clay County Sheriff's Office says he'd told dispatchers he had killed his parents and was waiting to be arrested. Lee is being tried as an adult, but local attorneys tell Action News Jax that, if he's found guilty, the death penalty won't be possible because of his age. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< 'They basically have to be given a meaningful ability to rehabilitate somewhere down the road around that 25-year mark,' Chris Carson, a Jacksonville-based criminal defense attorney, said. He told Lee that he has the option to show up anyway, if he wishes to do so. Lee's next pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 30th at 9:00 AM. 3 arrested in string of mail thefts from local U.S. Postal box
Three men were arrested in connection with a series of mail thefts in Springboro, according to a spokesperson with the Springboro Division of Police. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The mail was repeatedly stolen from a U.S. Post Office's outdoor blue collection box on Pioneer Boulevard. 'These thefts appear to be connected to a larger check fraud operation spanning multiple states,' the spokesperson said. A detective observed a theft in progress during one of the surveillance operations on Aug. 17. Enaudi Jendiel Jiminex Cruz, 20, Yahir Nazario Reyes, 22, and Joshua Hernandez, 20, were arrested, according to the spokesperson. The three men have been booked in the Warren County Jail on preliminary charges of tampering with evidence, theft of mail, and possessing criminal tools. Authorities later determined that one of the suspects was 'in the country illegally and had initially provided false identification,' the spokesperson added. Springboro detectives worked with a U.S. Postal Inspector in this investigation. 'These arrests highlight the persistence and dedication of our detectives in bringing closure to several cases connected with this group,' the spokesperson said.
