6.9 million watched Chargers-Lions Hall of Fame game

NBC Sports2 days ago
Football is back. And while the numbers are yet to hit regular-season form, a large throng tuned in for a glorified scrimmage involving second- and third-stringers.
Via Austin Karp of Sports Business Daily, the Chargers-Lions Hall of Fame game on NBC generated 6.9 million viewers on average for the broadcast. It's the biggest audience for the Hall of Fame game since the 2021 matchup between the Steelers and Cowboys, which averaged 7.31 million.
Last year, Bears-Texans on ABC averaged 4.93 million.
Of the total number, 691,000 watched on Peacock and NBC Digital. It's the biggest NBC preseason streaming audience ever.
Several more preseason games will be nationally televised over the next three weeks. In four weeks and three days, the season gets started with Cowboys-Eagles in Philadelphia. On NBC and Peacock.
The number will be much higher than 6.9 million for that one.

3 Standouts from Day 12 of Chicago Bears training camp

Chicago Bears training camp is in full swing ahead of the 2025 regular season. Under new head coach Ben Johnson, the Bears are preparing a return to relevancy with important practices and meetings at Halas Hall. The starters, such as quarterback Caleb Williams, wide receivers Rome Odunze and DJ Moore, and defensive linemen Grady Jarrett and Montez Sweat, will hone their skills as they adjust to a new system. Rookies such as tight end Colston Loveland, receiver Luther Burden III, and tackle Ozzy Trapilo will look to hit the ground running ahead of their first season. And depth players like offensive lineman Doug Kramer, defensive end Dominique Robinson, and safety Jonathan Owens will try and hang on to a roster spot with competition nipping at their heels. Following every Bears' training camp practice, we at Bears Wire will highlight a select number of players who stood out during the day. The Bears held an extremely physical practice on Tuesday, one many media members have never seen before. Here are the standouts from the practice: 1. RB Roschon Johnson The offense turned things around on Tuesday following a sluggish Family Fest practice on Sunday, and they were led by Roschon Johnson. The third-year back was a battering ram during team drills, punching in multiple touchdowns near the goal line. He also was heavily involved in some of the skirmishes that broke out, getting into it with safety Jonathan Owens at one point. On the field, though, Johnson operated as the team's short-yardage back in 2024 with a decent amount of success. With live tackling taking place for much of the day, Johnson had no problems in that role once again. 2. WR Rome Odunze The best play from Tuesday's practice came from the pair of 2024 first-round picks. Williams took a drop back and heaved a deep ball down the left sideline to Odunze, who caught the pass in stride over cornerback Nahshon Wright for a long gain. Wright may have had a shot at breaking up the pass, but the ball sailed just over his hands for the completion. Odunze has been getting involved with the deep passes in recent practices, and he seems to be doing just fine handling the coverage. 3. CB Tysheem Johnson By most accounts, the offense came out on top during Tuesday's practice, but the defense still got some shots in throughout the day. Undrafted rookie safety Tysheem Johnson stood out for an interception he had on veteran backup quarterback Case Keenum. As Bear Report's Zack Pearson notes, Keenum sailed a pass for his intended receiver that landed in the hands of Johnson. The former Oregon standout has shined at times during camp and could make an impact in the first preseason game this weekend.

Fantasy Football Rankings 2025: Justin Boone's Top Running Backs for drafts

Justin Boone won the FantasyPros Most Accurate Expert Award in 2019 and has eight top-10 finishes in the competition. He now brings his rankings acumen to the Yahoo Fantasy audience after recently joining the team as an analyst. He will consistently be refining his draft rankings during training camps, the preseason and leading up to the season. When news breaks, rankings updates will be reflected here, so bookmark this page and get ready for your drafts! And be sure to follow the links below to see his latest redraft rankings at every position. Latest RB Updates Omarion Hampton was always a top-20 fantasy back in my redraft rankings, but he's moved up into low-end RB1 territory now that Najee Harris is missing time due to an eye injury. Harris has been at training camp in street clothes, sporting a hoodie and sunglasses to protect the eye and perhaps to hide it from any onlookers. The longer he sits out, the more time Hampton has to impress coaches and distance himself from the veteran — and that's exactly what he's doing, according to everyone in and around the team, and he received early touches in the Hall of Fame preseason game. There's a reason why the Chargers used a first-round pick on Hampton and fantasy managers should continue investing, even if it requires a third-round pick to draft him now. There was always something strange about the way the Texans discussed Joe Mixon's recovery throughout the offseason. A clear timeline was never provided and the signing of Nick Chubb added doubt to the entire situation. Now we know Mixon will miss multiple weeks of training camp with a foot injury and the team is 'hoping' he'll be ready for Week 1, according to Jordan Schultz. Even after a surprisingly strong performance for Houston last season, it's going to be very difficult to draft Mixon with any confidence over the next month. For the time being, I've dropped Mixon down into the RB3 range, while moving Chubb and rookie Woody Marks up as intriguing late-round selections. The Jaguars' backfield seems to be an open competition between Travis Etienne Jr., Tank Bigsby and Bhayshul Tuten. It's no surprise to see the veterans getting more work at the start of camp, but Bigsby earning the bulk of the carries in the early going is worth noting. New Jags coach Liam Coen showed us last year in Tampa that he's willing to let the best man win the job, when he promoted a Day 3 rookie in Bucky Irving into the starting role, so anyone could emerge in Jacksonville this season. While the uncertainty can be frustrating, I still find myself taking chances on Tuten and Bigsby at their very late ADPs.
