Brazilian TV Reporter's Phone Snatched On Camera Moments Before Going Live On Air
A Brazilian television reporter narrowly avoided a robbery attempt just seconds before going live on air in a dramatic incident caught on camera.
Clara Nery, a journalist with Band Rio, was preparing to deliver a live report from the streets of Rio de Janeiro when a man on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her phone.
The scene unfolded in full view of the rolling camera, capturing the suspect circling past her before making a grab for the device.

The attempted thief quickly fled the area. However, Nery later confirmed that she recovered her phone after the suspect dropped it while fleeing.
'It was a real scare to go live, but the important thing is that everything turned out okay!" she wrote in an Instagram post, sharing footage of the incident.
Expressing gratitude, she added: 'Thanks for the messages and support from my coworkers, the Military Police, and the Civil Police."
Nery noted that the motorbike's license plate had been concealed using a piece of cardboard. Authorities have reviewed the footage and are working to track down the suspect.
'We trust the work of the Military Police and the Civil Police. We have no doubt that he will be found and arrested," she said, according to The New York Post.
'It remains to be seen whether, once arrested, his detention will be upheld, as we see many similar cases, but unfortunately, criminals like this are released after just a few days," she added.
The incident comes amid a sharp rise in phone thefts in the city.
According to data from the Rio de Janeiro Public Security Institute cited by The Nightly, more than 2,300 mobile phones were reported stolen in June 2025 — a 27 per cent increase compared to 1,808 cases during the same period in 2024.
Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information about the suspect to come forward.

Peter Kobe Nguyen, an Internet personality and a self-described pickleball coach, created a scene that included some social media flexing on board an American Airlines plane after he was caught vaping inside the toilet of the aircraft. Nguyen, in the viral video, accused the air hostess of harassing him by opening the bathroom door on him, and then he went on to say that he has 25,000 followers and they will watch this.
