Premalu 2 Delayed, Naslen-Mamitha's Film Faces Production Setback
Premalu 2 is delayed with no start date. Dileesh Pothan said their next project is directed by Girish AD. Premalu, released in 2024, was a hit, starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju. Fans waiting for Premalu 2 will have to be patient a little longer. The sequel to the hit Malayalam rom-com Premalu has been delayed, and there's no confirmation yet on when it will go on floors. Actor and filmmaker Dileesh Pothan, who co-produced Premalu, shared the update in a recent interview. Speaking to The Cue, Pothan said, 'Our next immediate project won't be 'Premalu 2', it's another directorial venture of Girish AD." He also added that 'Premalu 2 is halted at the moment" and they're unsure when the team will start working on it. While you are here, watch the trailer of Premalu here: This comes as a disappointment to many who were eagerly waiting for the continuation of Sachin and Reenu's story. The sequel was announced in April 2024, soon after Premalu became a massive hit in theatres. But since then, there haven't been any major updates about its progress. Released in early 2024, Premalu surprised everyone with its fresh storytelling, relatable humour, and adorable lead pair. It followed the story of Sachin, a young engineering graduate from Kerala who, after not getting a visa, moves to Hyderabad. There, he meets Reenu, and what follows is a sweet and chaotic love story. Naslen and Mamitha Baiju won hearts with their chemistry. The film also had Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Meenakshi Raveendran, Shyam Mohan, and Mathew Thomas in important roles. It was backed by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan, and Syam Pushkaran and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2024, garnering more than Rs 100 crore at the box office. The director of the film Girish AD had announced the news of the sequel during Premalu's success party in 2024, which was held in Kochi. According to him, the audience will get to see 'more fun and energy than Premalu". Naslen was last seen in Alappuzha Gymkhana, released in April 2025, and will next be seen in Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra. Mamitha Baiju, meanwhile, is working on several exciting films like Dude, Jana Nayagan with Thalapathy Vijay, and Suriya 46 with Suriya. First Published:

'Kuberaa' censored U/A; Will Dhanush starrer be the third longest Tamil film of all time? producer clarifies
As Dhanush's much-anticipated film, 'Kuberaa' gears up for a grand theatrical release on June 20, discussions around its runtime have taken center stage. Directed by Sekhar Kammula and featuring Rashmika Mandanna and Nagarjuna alongside Dhanush, the pan-Indian film has been made in five languages, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. While the film's teaser recently earned a warm reception from fans, the latest update on its runtime sparked a wave of surprise. Kuberaa's 3-hour-plus runtime surprises fans The official censor board certification revealed that 'Kuberaa' runs for 195 minutes that is, 3 hours and 15 minutes, an unusually long duration that has led to speculation about whether the film will be trimmed either before or after release. With recent big films like 'Indian 2' undergoing edits post-release due to runtime complaints, fans began wondering if 'Kuberaa' would follow a similar route. As of now, 'Kuberaa' is the third longest Tamil film of all-time after the 1960 Tamil film 'Parthiban Kanavu' (3 hours and 39 minutes) and the 2005 release 'Thavamai Thavamirundhu' (3 hours 24 minutes). Producer Sunil clears the air Producer Sunil clarified the rumors in an open statement while speaking with Great Andhra. "Kuberaa: We have censored the final copy to prevent last-minute tensions," he clarified. We'll now trim it down to about two hours and fifty minutes. Nobody will be able to watch this movie in 150 minutes if we cut it down to two hours and thirty minutes. His remarks show that while maintaining the film's essential emotional and narrative depth, the team is cognizant of audience preferences. Final post-production in progress There are high expectations for Kuberaa's release because final technical work is still ongoing and the runtime is now anticipated to be closer to two hours and fifty minutes. The filmmakers seem committed to finding the ideal balance between audience comfort and artistic intent, and the film's emotional impact and character-driven storytelling seem to call for a longer format.
