Martinelli's issues recall for more than 170,000 apple juice bottles for potentially toxic substance

NBC News28-04-2025
More than 170,000 bottles of apple juice are being voluntarily recalled by S. Martinelli & Company in 28 states for potential contamination with toxic substances, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The company, based in Watsonville, California, issued the recall on March 18 for more than 7,200 cases of the product, each containing 24 bottles per case.
"In 2024, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) routine testing indicated that one lot of 10-ounce Martinelli's Apple Juice glass bottles (in 4-packs only) produced in December 2023 may contain elevated levels of Patulin, a naturally occurring substance produced by molds that can grow in apples," the statement read.
The amount of patulin in apple products is typically viewed as a measure of the quality of the apples used, according to the National Library of Medicine.
"At S. Martinelli & Company, we hold ourselves to the highest standards of excellence, and the health and safety of our customers remains our greatest priority," the company said.
No health issues related to the recall have been reported yet, the company stated in a press release.
The affected products were distributed throughout the U.S. in the following 28 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Deleware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.
Martinelli stated that the company worked with retailers that received the recalled product, and any remaining affected items in inventory have been removed.

I've been hooked on alcohol, cocaine and bad men. But this is the vice afflicting millions that I found the hardest to give up - and how I finally did it: BRYONY GORDON

I think about it all the time. At least once an hour, often two or three times. I think about the feel of it in my hands, the sensation of it in my mouth, the euphoric effects it has on my body, the type that are so blissful they have always left me craving more. Sometimes, I will be grappling with the stress of a day and I will want to cry out for it right then and there, slap bang in the middle of the street.

FDA recommends 7-OH compound found in vapes be controlled

WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug administration is recommending the scheduling of the 7-OH compound as a controlled substance because of its opioid properties, FDA Commissioner Marty Makary said on Tuesday. Many products containing 7-OH are available in vape stores and the compound is present in drinks and children's gummies, he said at a news conference. The FDA letter to the Drug Enforcement Administration will recommend scheduling 7-OH above a concentration threshold as a Class 1 controlled substance. The substance 7-OH is increasingly recognized as having potential for abuse because of its ability to bind to opioid receptors, the FDA said. "Yet it is sold in vape stores, in smoke shops, and convenience stores, and gas stations, that are popping up all over the United States," Makary said. The FDA is issuing a report explaining the risks of the synthetic substance, made from the kratom plant, and sending a letter to every physician in the United States warning them about the substance. "We're going to continue to try to educate the public," Makary said.

This is the only make-up I've found that is heatwave-proof

I 'm writing this at the tail end of a heatwave and have no doubt another one will be along shortly. The problem with heatwaves is that wearing make-up is close to intolerable when the air is so heavy and still and the idea of significant movement makes you exhausted in advance. This also applies to being away, obviously. Often you don't want to go completely bare-faced, as you want your skin to look better than it actually is, but also you don't want anything that feels like anything on your face. There is an embarrassment of options, but I find that they're either too much or too little. What I'm looking for in this situation is just enough coverage to even out my skin and not an iota more. I'm also looking for something that isn't too matte (and therefore flat), but that is also not too shiny — I produce enough shine all by myself in boiling hot weather. Also, it mustn't slide off or feel like it's smearing itself about. And obviously before any of those considerations, I'm looking for something that feels like bare skin.
