Oregon fans react to Ducks March Madness blowout over Liberty Flames

Yahoo22-03-2025

Oregon Duck fans had to wait a long time for their favorite team to tip things off in the 2025 NCAA Tournament finally, but the result was well worth the wait. In the final game of the first round of March Madness, Dana Altman's Ducks laid waste to the Liberty Flames, dominating from start to finish with an 81-52 blowout win.
In a game that was expected to be kept close due to Liberty's ability to shoot from deep, it was Oregon who found the range early on and shot their way to an early 18-2 lead in the first half. From there, the Ducks' were able to use their size and stingy defense to keep the Flames at bay for the rest of the game, ultimately stretching the lead to 30 points in the second half before benches were emptied and substitutes entered the game.
It was an excellent way for the Ducks to kick off the tournament, but things won't be easy in the future. On Sunday night, Oregon will face off against the No. 4 seed Arizona Wildcats, giving us a vintage Pac-12 rivalry from years past.
Before we get to that, though, let's enjoy the blowout win from the first round for the Ducks. Here's how Oregon fans reacted on social media throughout the game.

College basketball analyst thinks USC should make NCAA Tournament next year

College basketball analyst thinks USC should make NCAA Tournament next year It has certainly been a dramatic offseason for USC men's basketball. For the second year in a row, the Trojans turned over nearly their entire roster, once again heavily utilizing the transfer portal. A recent story by Isaac Trotter of 247Sports gave a way-too early 2025-2026 outlook for every Big Ten basketball team. His view on USC was a fairly optimistic one, as he believes that Eric Musselman's group should be an NCAA Tournament team next season. Here is what Trotter had to say about the Trojans: 'USC's talent level has skyrocketed after the snazzy additions like [Rodney] Rice and [Chad] Baker-Mazara, but it's the defense that should be remarkably better in 2025-26,' Trotter wrote. 'Musselman's squad now has legit plus size at all five positions. USC should be able to shrink the floor defensively and cause real problems at every level. Of course, there's a little fretting about the point guard room. [Jordan] Marsh is the lone true point guard on the roster, but both Rice and Baker-Mazara notched north of 150 pick-and-roll reps last year with elite efficiency and slim turnover rates. USC can piece it together with those two alphas if it wants, while maintaining the flexibility to play a traditional point guard in Marsh if things go haywire. Losing Keonte Jones stings, but USC has a deep frontcourt with plenty of versatile, different pieces. Keep an eye on [Jacob] Cofie. The Virginia transfer has all the tools to be a total stud. USC is huge, will shoot way more 3-pointers, has multiple different avenues it can use to find efficient offense and should be much-improved defensively. If Arenas is healthy, it may have the best wing corps in the Big Ten. The Trojans smell like a tournament team with room for so much more if everything clicks.' In Year 1 under Musselman, USC did not even come close to making the NCAA Tournament. Getting there in Year 2 would be a tremendous step in the right direction. Let's see if the Trojans can pull it off.

Oregon Ducks still 'the one to beat' for 5-star EDGE in 2026 class

Oregon Ducks still 'the one to beat' for 5-star EDGE in 2026 class "Oregon's the one to says this 5⭐️ has 'a lot of love' for the Ducks 🦆 MORE: — Josh Newberg (@josh_newberg) June 10, 2025 The recruitment of 5-star edge rusher Richard Wesley has undoubtedly been a rollercoaster. After a surprise commitment to the Oregon Ducks on a visit in early May, Dan Lanning and his crew were riding high with the blue-chip prospect from Sierra Canyon, who ranks as the No. 13 player in the 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite. However, it was just 17 days later that Wesley ended up decommitting from Oregon, saying that he intended to carry out the recruiting process and reassess his decision. Wesley scheduled several official visits, the first of which was the Eugene, which he went on this past weekend. According to multiple reports, that visit to Oregon went great, and Wesley was reminded of all the things that he loved about the Ducks in the first place and the plan that they had in place for him. According to On3's Steve Wiltfong, Oregon is still leading in the recruitment of Wesley at the moment. "I think that Oregon is the one to beat still," Wiltfong said on Tuesday. "Nothing has changed with Oregon, a lot of love for the Ducks, and I like where they stand." A trip to the Texas Longhorns follows this past weekend's visit on June 20. The date for the visit to the Texas A&M Aggies has not yet been finalized. Wesley will go to see the Ohio State Buckeyes on Aug. 30, the weekend they host the Longhorns for the season-opener in Columbus. Wesley is someone who the Ducks hope to get into the fold once the 2026 class signs in December, but it's not going to be easy. In the world of NIL, some of the top players in the nation require a substantial payday to secure their commitment and keep it, and the teams pursuing Wesley have large war chests to work with, as do the Ducks when it comes to paying these players. At the moment, Oregon is in a great position to land Wesley. But we've seen before, though, with Wesley in particular, how quickly things can change. This will be an interesting recruitment to follow over the next several months. Wisconsin basketball star adds notable workout ahead of upcoming NBA draft

Wisconsin basketball star adds notable workout ahead of upcoming NBA draft Former Wisconsin star John Tonje is set to work out with the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday, in advance of the NBA draft later this month. With roughly two weeks remaining until the draft, slated for June 25 and June 26 in Brooklyn, New York, Tonje will venture to California for a workout with a potential suitor. In addition to Tonje, the Kings will also work out Jeremy Roach (Baylor), Caleb Love (Arizona), Jaxson Robinson (Kentucky), Great Osobor (Washington) and C.J. Huntley (Appalachian State) on Wednesday, according to ESPN1320 host and Kings beat writer James Ham. Sacramento possesses the No. 42 overall pick in the second round, a slot that would make sense for the North Omaha, Nebraska, native. In ESPN's post-combine mock draft, the former Badger was selected No. 48 overall by the Memphis Grizzlies. In late May, the wing was forecasted to go No. 41 by The Athletic, No. 40 by Yahoo Sports, No. 47 by Bleacher Report and No. 48 by the Sporting News. The Kings' selection could make sense considering the franchise's depth at the position. Sacramento currently starts Zach LaVine at shooting guard, DeMar DeRozan at small forward and Keegan Murray at power forward. All three players figure to be locks in the starting five ahead of the 2025-26 season, but those who suit up behind them are more of a question. Bench assets Keon Ellis, Trey Lyles and Jake LaRavia receive a healthy chunk of minutes in the Kings' second unit, but the organization could use an extra scoring lift when both LaVine and DeRozan leave the floor. Given Tonje's performance during his final collegiate season in Madison, he fits the bill. At Wisconsin in 2024-25, Tonje averaged just under 20 points per appearance while shooting 46.5% from the floor, 38.8% from outside and 90.9% from the charity stripe. He showed out in the biggest games, including a 37-point barrage vs. BYU in the NCAA Tournament, a 32-point output against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament and a 41-point game against Arizona in November. Night two of the 2025 NBA draft will be held on June 26 at 8 p.m. ET, broadcast on ESPN. Barring a major scouting development, Badger enthusiasts can expect Tonje's name to be called that night.
