Mamma Mia! party night with prosecco and pizza set for Southampton cinema
Showcase Cinema de Lux Southampton will transform its venue on August 16 into a glittering, ABBA-filled celebration.
The event will feature prosecco, pizza, a live DJ spinning ABBA hits, and a photobooth.
The event begins at 6pm in the Gallery Bar, with a special screening of Mamma Mia! starting at 7pm.

Rare copy of The Hobbit sells for 'record-breaking' sum
An "astonishingly rare" first edition of The Hobbit has sold for a "record-breaking" £43,000 at auction. The copy of JRR Tolkien's novel is one of only 1,500 copies that were printed in 1937. It was discovered without a dustcover on a bookcase during a home clearance in Bristol. It was sold to a private collector in the UK through an online auction at Auctioneum in Bath, Somerset, earlier. Caitlin Riley, the book specialist from the auction house, said: "It's the quintessential auction story. Everyone dreams of finding a rare item hidden in plain sight, and here we are." Ms Riley said the book is in "absolutely beautiful condition" and she believed it sold for a record price for a first edition without a dustcover. "House clearances can be tricky, stressful and troublesome... this could have so easily been sent to landfill, or disposed of by someone who didn't realise it was there," she added. The book came from the family library of Hubert Priestley who was a famous botanist in the 1930s and brother to the Antarctic explorer and geologist, Sir Raymond Edward Priestley. Priestley had strong connections to the University of Oxford where Tolkien stood as Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon and a Fellow of Pembroke College. Both men knew fellow author C.S. Lewis and it is likely that they knew each other. "It's the connection to Tolkien and the important provenance that makes this book so special. It's not just any first edition; it belonged to someone who very likely called Tolkien an acquaintance," Ms Riley said. She added it was astonishingly rare to find a first edition in such good condition. "Being a children's book, most of them have seen children's hands, children's colouring pens in some cases, so to have one that appears to be completely unread and never enjoyed is really, really astonishingly rare," she said. The Hobbit is one of the most successful children's novels, with more than 100 million copies sold. The story is set in the fantasy world Middle-earth and follows the hobbit Bilbo Baggins on a quest to find treasure. The rare edition that was sold also includes rare drawings by Tolkien himself. ‘Hamilton' turns 10: Lin-Manuel Miranda announces movie theater release to celebrate the Broadway musical's anniversary
The film version of the hit show will debut in theaters on Sept. 5. Rise up, Hamilton fans: The Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning Broadway musical is coming to a movie theater near you. On Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show, Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that the feature film version of his hit musical Hamilton will make its theatrical debut on Sept. 5 in celebration of its 10th anniversary. Hamilton premiered on Broadway a decade ago today, on Aug. 6, 2015. 'I have an announcement!' Miranda, who created and originally starred in the musical, said. 'So, tomorrow is the 10-year anniversary of Hamilton, and we've been celebrating all year. But we have one more way to celebrate. We filmed most of the original cast performing in Hamilton in 2016, and we always wanted to release it theatrically, but then the pandemic hit, and so we decided to release it on streaming so that everyone could see it at home whenever they wanted. But, Sept. 5, you will be able to see Hamilton in movie theaters nationwide and in Puerto Rico.' The film will be released in theaters in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico on Sept. 5, in the U.K. and Ireland on Sept. 26, and in Australia and New Zealand on Nov. 13, per Variety. A special screening of Hamilton, organized by the Public Theater, will take place on Sept. 3 at the Delacorte Theater in New York City's Central Park. A limited number of advance tickets will be available for purchase, followed by a free ticket lottery and free standby line the night of the event. Hamilton premiered on Disney+ in July 2020. The movie functioned as a live recording of the actual Broadway production, filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016, with much of the original cast performing together. 'Brian Potter' kicks off over three-month wait to get a sinkhole repaired
Brian Potter's voice is even higher than usual. The Bolton nightclub owner is fuming about a hole in the road. The sinkhole appeared on May 4 and despite dozens of phone calls to Bury Council and United Utilities it has still not been fixed. Now Potter - alias Connor O'Brien, a resident of Wingate Drive in Whitefield - has made a video demanding action. Trained as an actor he has the Peter Kay character's squeaky tones down to a tee. But his message and those of fellow residents in the cul-de-sac is serious. They believe the hole is dangerous and delivery vans to the long road have been unable to get access due to the cavity being surrounded by barriers. I don't care who's to blame, right, we want a response now". In the clip he is then seen in the hole on top of his wheelchair, and says "Christ almighty look what's happened. I was driving my chair and fell in - get it sorted." Connor said: "What motivated me to do it was how much upset it has caused my neighbours in the street. Residents were getting wound up and no one seemed to be taking responsibility for it. I am not very academic, so instead of writing emails I thought the only way I can help is injecting a bit of light hearted banter on social media. "I was given a wheelchair through a theatre company. I think Potter's message to Bury Council and United Utilities would be 'get my hole filled in. Potter's barmy army, you have got to be on it.' "It is a bit of comedy but there is a serious message. The cavity is falling in and it is a danger to pedestrians and drivers. I have and agent and went to drama school in London but actually worked in stage management in the West End. Then I went on the cruise ships as a host and thought I would never work backstage again." Resident Sue Stott has kept a diary of the "farce" involving the hole. It was discovered by children on May 4th and reported to Bury council the next day. Bury council sent out a team on June 3rd who said it was a "sewer" problem. The council did replace a bollard placed around the hole after it was clipped and damaged by a lorry trying to get past. Sue's diary records numerous phone calls from several neighbours to both the council and United Utilitiesover the last three months. In one entry for July 1st a member of staff from United Utilities said they had been given no notice of the work by the council. A team from United Utilities did come out on July 18th but the hole has still not been repaired. Three local councillors and MP Christian Wakeford have contacted both the council and United Utilities in a bid to get the job done. Sue said: "People in the street did think of stopping paying their council tax and United Utilities bills. But although they are not helping us, we didn't want to break the law. "I spoke to United Utilities this week. I said I wanted to put in a complaint and he said he would ring me back by Thursday (this week). I said do you realise the hole is in-filling. It is coming from the sides and therefore the tarmac underneath on either side could be going down. This is a dangerous hole. He said he would upgrade it and be back to me by 8pm tonight." Yesterday one resident had to put the barriers back in place as they had been blown down by heavy winds. "But vehicles going past are nudging them into the hole to get through," said Sue. "There must be some conversation between them (the council and United Utilities) to ease getting it done. Why is there not a system in place for communication? Talk to each other." A couple of hours after the Manchester Evening News made inquiries about the fiasco workmen from United Utilities arrived at the hole and erected different yellow barriers with the notice "We're working on the sewer pipes". In a message on social media United Utilities have told one resident in the street: "Hi, thank you for getting in touch. I have just been speaking with another resident in the area about the same issue. We're currently planning a date for us to carry out the repairs, and the job reference is 07899881. Thanks." But the resident replied:"You now appear to accept responsibility but give no timeline to repair, it's already been 3 months!!! This is an accident waiting to happen, photo taken today showing the barriers moved in the wind leaving open hole which could easily been missed in the dark!" A United Utilities spokesperson said: 'We apologise to residents of Wingate Drive for the delay in dealing with this and for any inconvenience caused. Our team has attended this afternoon to carry out further investigations and get our safety barriers in place to ensure the necessary repair work can be delivered as quickly as possible.'
