The Illinois driver, who was uninjured, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, Tarter said. Police haven't said if the driver was arrested or taken into custody.

'I am horrified and deeply saddened by the deaths of children and numerous injuries in Chatham this afternoon,' Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said in a statement. 'My heart is heavy for these families and the unimaginable grief they're experiencing – something that no parent should ever have to endure.'
He said his office was monitoring the situation and was ready to lend support.

The struck building and facilities house Youth Needing Other Things Outdoors, which holds after-school programs and summer camps, according to its website.
As evening fell, police cars with lights flashing still blocked streets leading to the building. On its Facebook account, the Chatham Police Department asked for prayers.
'A terrible tragedy has occurred here that has affected all of us,' the message ended.

Girl, 17, arrested after dog attack
A teenager has been arrested after reports of multiple people being injured in a dog attack in Bardon Hill. Leicestershire Police said it received reports at 06:30 BST and 07:44 on Thursday of members of the public being bitten by dogs on Beveridge Lane. Firearms officers were deployed, and two dogs were found - with one being sedated to allow its safe removal from the scene, the force added. A 17-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog in a public place and she remained in police custody. A Memphis jury on Thursday found Hernandez Govan not guilty of organizing the 2021 ambush killing of rapper Young Dolph, rejecting prosecutors' claims that he directed the fatal attack outside a local bakery. The jury deliberated for about three hours before acquitting the 45-year-old of first-degree murder and conspiracy charges. Govan, who was accused of orchestrating but not carrying out the shooting, embraced his attorney and thanked Judge Jennifer Mitchell after learning he was free to go.
