Superman forced to cut two scenes after they were deemed ‘overly sensual'
The eagerly awaited reboot of the franchise, overseen by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, has been a hit with audiences. Still, fans in India are questioning the censorship of the version released in their country.
Two romantic scenes between Superman and Lois Lane have been cut from the film's release in India, prompting backlash and reigniting debates around censorship in the country.
The cuts, ordered by India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), involve brief but intimate moments where the superhero leans in to kiss Lois Lane.
Viewers in India reported that both scenes were abruptly skipped, with the film jumping straight from a romantic setup to the post-embrace aftermath.
The omitted footage, which is approximately 33 seconds in total, reportedly included a passionate mid-air kiss between the pair.
The film (which currently boasts 85% on Rotten Tomatoes) has otherwise been released in full around the world, where these romantic moments have stirred little controversy.
But in India, the CBFC determined the scenes were 'too sensual' to meet the standards for a U/A certificate – the country's equivalent of a 12A or PG rating.
The move has angered many fans, who took to social media to vent their frustration.
Critics argue that the CBFC's decision reflects a double standard, pointing out that far more problematic content is regularly allowed to pass through unchecked.
'Indian censorship is getting more and more ridiculous man,' wrote one X user, @true_Greensaint.
Another, @StanReinhardt, added: 'That's where you draw the line? 😅😅'
Others questioned the hypocrisy of allowing violent or regressive content while censoring consensual intimacy.

The CBFC has long been criticised for its conservative stance on kissing, sexuality, and other so-called 'bold' content, often citing 'cultural sensitivities' as justification.
But for many younger, urban audiences, the decision to censor Superman's kiss feels outdated and increasingly out of touch with reality.
As the debate rages on, Indian fans will have to settle for a slightly less romantic version of the Man of Steel.

Netflix now streaming World War 2 film 'more captivating than Dunkirk'
Gary Oldman won an Oscar for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour, with viewers now able to stream the critically-acclaimed biopic on Netflix A fresh arrival on Netflix UK is Darkest Hour, the World War 2 drama wherein Gary Oldman delivers an Oscar-winning portrayal of Winston Churchill. Previously taken off the platform, Netflix users can watch the Oscar-winning picture again as of July 2025. Helmed by Joe Wright, who directed the wartime romance Atonement, the story unfolds during one crucial month where Churchill considers negotiating peace with Hitler or continuing the fight. The wartime drama garnered nominations across the Academy Awards, BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and beyond. The movie boasts an 84% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics' consensus states: "Darkest Hour is held together by Gary Oldman's electrifying performance, which brings Winston Churchill to life even when the movie's narrative falters." Acclaim for Oldman's turn was virtually unanimous, though critics were divided about the merits of the overall film. As The New Yorker put it: "How badly we need another Winston Churchill film is open to question. Nonetheless, Joe Wright's contribution to the genre is welcome, largely because of Gary Oldman in the leading role." 'Must-see' crime drama with perfect Rotten Tomatoes tops streaming chart
The latest crime drama to hit Amazon Prime Video has been hailed as "one of the best shows of the year". A new crime drama that fans have hailed a "must-see" has climbed its way up Amazon Prime Video's charts, with viewers branding it "one of the best shows of the year." The series called Ballard follows Los Angeles Police Detective Renée Ballard as she attempts to solve a new cold case unit within the Robbery-Homicide Division. Ballard is a spinoff from the detective series Bosch that aired between 2014 and 2021 and followed LAPD Detective Harry Bosch (played by Titus Welliver). This time around, the series follows Maggie Q as she takes on the role of Renée as she leads a team of police officers and detectives attempting to solve decade old crimes including murders. This series, which is based on Michael Connelly's detective novels, sees Renée open up the investigations to end up uncovering a web of corruption and secrets within the police department. The official synopsis reads: "Detective Renée Ballard plunges into a web of murder and corruption as she hunts a ruthless serial killer and uncovers a sinister police conspiracy that threatens everything she stands for." 'With her own demons nipping at her heels, Ballard must outwit both criminals and colleagues to bring long-overdue justice to the victims and their families.' Just days after it aired on Amazon Prime Video, Ballard climbed the Prime Video's UK charts and scored a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating. One viewer praised the show, taking to Rotten Tomatoes to write: "It doesn't disappoint and lives up to all expectations. It should surprise no one that Michael Connelly has another winner. Must watch TV!' Another stated: "I can't stop watching it. After every episode, I think, "I need to go do x," but then I watch another.' 'Very engaging, I binged the whole thing without stopping,' someone else said. Over on X, formally known as Twitter, one fan expressed: "#Ballard is amazing. It picks up the pace when needed but also slows down, giving you time to breathe without ever being boring. It's been so long since I've seen a show do that, and isn't just a sensory overload (even if you binge it in a day). Also Maggie Q is absolutely [fire].' 'What a rollercoaster! Ballard was worth the binge... So far, Harry Bosch's universe remains undefeated,' another added. In addition to roaring reviews from viewers, critics have also acclaimed the Amazon Prime series. Responding to the calls for a second season, Maggie Q shared with Variety: 'The good news is we have a writers' room already, so that's very positive.
