Kate Martin's Behavior During Valkyries Game Turns Heads on Sunday
The Golden State Valkyries, the newest expansion team in the WNBA this season, took a respectable 2-3 record into Sunday's game against the Minnesota Lynx, who nearly won the league championship last year.

They played the Lynx, who came in with an undefeated record, to a standstill in the first half. But the Lynx overpowered them afterward and held them to just 23 second-half points en route to an 86-75 victory.
Guard Kate Martin, who is in her second season out of Iowa, scored 14 efficient points, which was a new career-high, in 19 minutes off the bench. At one point in the game, she was seen snacking on the bench.
Fans on X reacted to this interesting action.
"Looks like a Stroopwafel or Uncrustable," one fan responded. "Pretty sure it's the sweet stuff but not positive. What do y'all think?"
"Low sugar?" another fan asked.
"Kate is hungry after going off," a third fan wrote.
"An uncrustable helps me feel better too," a fourth fan wrote.
"Seems like some people have grown their games in the offseason, she's one of them," a fifth fan wrote. "Kate's handle is better, and so is her footwork. She seems more athletic, too."
"She's a baller!" another fan wrote.
Playing a pro basketball game is very demanding, and athletes will lose at least a few points during a game. According to the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, players can intake a sports bar, sports chews or even foods such as oranges during games to replace nutrients that have been lost.

Martin started in the backcourt alongside Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark while at UConn. She developed into a strong 3-point shooter, and she averaged 13.1 points and 6.8 rebounds a game while shooting 50.7% from the field in her final season with the Hawkeyes.

The Hawkeyes reached the women's NCAA championship game in both of Martin's last two seasons with them, only to lose there on both occasions.
So far in 39 WNBA games, she has averaged 3.1 points in 12.0 minutes a game on 31.3% overall shooting and 35.9% from 3-point range.

2025 WNBA trade deadline: Live updates, news, rumors as Sun acquire Aaliyah Edwards from Mystics, send Jacy Sheldon to Washington
The 2025 WNBA trade deadline is rapidly approaching on Thursday at 3 p.m. ET, as contenders look to make final moves to solidify rosters ahead of a playoff run, while others look to acquire assets for the future. This deadline could prove to be a particularly interesting one, as a significant number of players will become free agents for the 2026 season in coordination with the start of a new CBA. Multiple players negotiated their contracts through 2025 based on the timing of the current CBA, which runs through Oct. 31, 2025. Hours before the deadline, the Washington Mystics made their second move of the week, trading Aaliyah Edwards to the Connecticut Sun for Jacy Sheldon and the rights to a potential 2026 first-round pick swap. The rebuild continues in Washington, which traded All-Star guard Brittney Sykes to the Seattle Storm on Tuesday in exchange for Alysha Clark, guard Zia Cooke and a 2026 first-round pick. Seattle currently sits sixth in the WNBA standings, acquiring Sykes, who's averaging 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. The 2025 deadline action tipped off Sunday with a trade between the Minnesota Lynx and Dallas Wings. The Lynx acquired guard DiJonai Carrington, while the Wings acquired forward Diamond Miller, guard Karlie Samuelson and a 2027 second-round draft pick. It marked the second time Carrington had been traded this year, having joined the Wings via trade in February, just months after being named WNBA All-Defensive First Team and the WNBA's Most Improved Player. She'll offer immediate contributions for Minnesota as it looks to fill an immediate and significant vacancy left by All-Star Napheesa Collier, who's expected to miss at least two weeks with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Miller, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, heads to Dallas in hopes of a fresh start. After starting in each of her 32 games for the Lynx in her rookie season, Miller has yet to make her first start in 2025. Samuelson was waived after the trade, ESPN's Alexa Philippou reported. The financial ramifications of a new CBA could drastically reshape the WNBA landscape, with the salary cap, player salaries and revenue sharing topping the list of concerns in negotiations. Currently, the WNBA minimum salary for a player of 0-2 years of experience is at $66,079 per season, and players with 3+ years of experience earn a veteran minimum of $78,831; supermax contracts max out at $249,244. The salary cap for each team in 2025 is set at just over $1.5 million, per Her Hoops. Earlier this season, the Las Vegas Aces made a surprise move to acquire forward NaLyssa Smith from the Wings in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick, also her second time being traded in the 2025 calendar year. At 15-14, the Aces sit seventh overall in the league standings. Follow along with Yahoo Sports for live updates, highlights and more from the 2025 WNBA trade deadline:

Rutgers Football 2025 Opponent Preview: Oregon
Rutgers Football is set to take on Oregon for the first time ever during their homecoming at SHI Stadium. The Ducks are coming off their first season in the Big Ten, where they went undefeated during the regular season, beat Penn State in the Big Ten Championship, before losing to Ohio State in the second round of the College Football Playoff. Despite losing many starters to the NFL, Oregon remains the heavy favorite in most of its games this season. Their game against the Scarlet Knights will be no different, as Oregon's betting line for wins on the season is 10.5. With former starter Dillon Gabriel now with the Cleveland Browns, the duties of starting quarterback have been passed down to Dante Moore, a former five star recruit. Moore did not see the field much in 2024, completing 7/8 passes for 49 yards. He did, however, receive significant playing time in 2023 when he was with UCLA, where he had 114 completions on 213 attempts for 1,610 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. He will have a better opportunity to unlock his five star potential at Oregon than he did at UCLA because the Ducks have a better support system for him and have better talent surrounding him. He also now has experience on his side. Oregon will most likely have a two man rotation at the running back position this year, with Tulane transfer Junior Makhi Hughes most likely taking the bulk of the carries while senior Noah Whittington receives significant touches as well. Last season, Mekhi carried the ball 265 times for 1,401 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. He also added 19 catches at two touchdowns in the passing game. Whittington carried the ball 118 times last year for 540 yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging 46 yards per carry. Whittington also caught the ball 24 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns. These two splitting carries will make for a nice one-two punch at running back. The wide receiver corps has a lot of question marks for the Ducks as to who will be the leader. Oregon lost its two most productive wide receivers to the NFL, as well as its most productive tight end. Evan Stewart, the wide receiver with the most catches last year who is still on the roster, sustained an offseason injury that is leaving his 2025 campaign in doubt. That leaves the question of top receivers to unproven high upside talents such as Dakorien Moore, Jeremiah McClellan, Jurrion Dickey, Justius Lowe, and Kyler Kasper. Of these names, only Lowe caught more than 10 passes last season. The Ducks are returning a lot of their play making talent on defense this season, as team-leading tackler, linebacker Bryce Boettcher, has returned for his senior season along with sack leader linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei. Up and coming linebacker Teitum Tuioti, who recorded 58 tackles and 5.5 sacks last season, is expected to take another jump this year. Rutgers' game against Oregon will be the first of many uphill battles this year for the Knights. Rutgers will need to have perfect execution, along with a couple of breaks to go their way, to have a decent chance in this one. The Knights' secondary will need to take advantage of an inexperienced receiving core to limit the Ducks' offense, along with long sustained drives from the offense to wear down the defense. Hopefully, the Knights' homecoming crowd can give the team a boost as well. To support me and my work, please follow @Andrew78Rice on X!
