MLB fans left furious as Fox refuses to show Canadian national anthem before All-Star game... months of from Trump's trade war threats

Daily Mail4 days ago
Major League Baseball celebrated the annual Midsummer Classic - hosting its All-Star Game in Atlanta and featuring players from 29 American teams and one Canadian team.
But fans were outraged after the Canadian National Anthem wasn't broadcast on Fox Sports before the game began.
The Toronto Blue Jays sent players to the All-Star Game and Canadian fans were serenaded with 'O, Canada' by Lauren Spencer Smith.
However, that performance was not broadcast on Fox - who skipped it and only showed The Star-Spangled Banner performed by the Zac Brown Band.
Fox Sports did not immediately return a request for comment on the matter from DailyMail.com.
Fans took to social media to express their outrage in a year where tensions between the US and Canada are at the highest they've been in centuries.
One user on X posted, 'Once again, @FOXSports doesn't show the Canadian national anthem on the US feed. So disrespectful.'
'The absence of the Canadian anthem and the jets was a missed moment for sure. Do you think the MLB could do better with its entertainment choices in the future?' said one pro-Trump account.
'Did @FOXSports not show the Canadian national anthem for the #AllStarGame or did they even have it?' asked another.
One account posted, 'Typical Fox, of course they skipped over the Canadian anthem for television.'
Another wrote, '@FOXSports shame on you for not showing the Canadian anthem.'
After President Trump enflamed tensions between Canada earlier this year by threatening to turn them into the '51st state', that rivalry between the two nations spilled over into baseball, basketball, and hockey.
The latter sport served as an inflection point of that tension in the NHL's '4 Nations Faceoff' - where the US beat Canada in the group stage before losing in overtime on home ice in the Final.

Tim Tszyu beaten in world title rematch with Sebastian Fundora, as American pounds Aussie into submission

Tim Tszyu has suffered another devastating setback, losing once again to American Sebastian Fundora in the pair's much-hyped world-title rematch in Las Vegas. Tszyu had been hunting redemption after losing a split-decision bloodbath to Fundora 16 months ago. Instead Australia's former WBO super-welterweight world champ will return to Sydney with his international career at another crossroad following a despairing seventh-round TKO defeat. Saturday night's loss at the MGM Grand's Garden Arena was the 30-year-old's third from his past four bouts, after going unbeaten for his first 24 professional fights. Tszyu also endured a crushing world-title loss last year to big-hitting Russian Bakhram Murtazaliev before Fundora sportingly offered him a rematch after the Sydney slayer knocked out fellow American Joey Spencer in March. Tszyu (25-3, 18KOs) may even consider a move up to the light-middleweight ranks, or hope Keith Thurman lives up to his word after the US star called him out after slaying Brock Jarvis earlier this year in Sydney. More immediately, Tszyu must digest another sapping defeat at the hands of "The Towering Inferno". Last time around against his gangling 197cm opponent, Tszyu had to fight for 10 rounds half-blinded after walking into Fundora's elbow and suffering an horrific cut to an artery at the top of his head. In the return bout, Tszyu fought with more patience but couldn't stay with the near two-metre tall rival. Fundora made a spectacular start, dropping Tszyu in the opening round with a thunderous straight left to the head. Tszyu's cut man Mark Gambin was again under immense pressure after Fundora landed a flurry of punches to open up a nasty wound above the Australian's right eye in the second round. Struggling to cope with Fundora's massive height and reach advantage, Tszyu looked in peril before catching the American with a huge over-hand right in round four. But the Californian, the tallest world champion in all of boxing - continued to throw and land more punches than Tszyu. Tszyu needed to conjure something special. Showing supreme courage to stay in the contest, Tszyu found some joy with his body shots before the fight exploded in a ferocious round seven.

Rockies beat Twins again to clinch home series

July 20 - Ryan McMahon, Ezequiel Tovar and Hunter Goodman homered and the host Colorado Rockies rallied from a 3-0 deficit for a 10-6 win over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night at Denver in a game that was delayed 38 minutes by rain. The Rockies have won the first two games to clinch their first home series win of the season as Tovar was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs, and Goodman also drove in three runs. It was the third consecutive loss for the Twins. Kody Clemens was 2-for-4 (double, triple) with three RBIs. Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela (4-13) earned the win after allowing three runs and six hits in seven innings with a walk and three strikeouts. Minnesota starter Zebby Matthews (1-2) gave up five runs and eight hits in four plus innings with a walk and six strikeouts in taking the loss. Clemens' two-run, bases-loaded double in the eighth pulled the Twins to within 8-5. Goodman countered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run blast. It was his 18th homer of the season. Harrison Bader doubled in a run for the Twins in the ninth. Tovar's two-out, three-run homer in the fifth gave Colorado a 6-3 lead. The blast, off reliever Brock Stewart, traveled an estimated 433 feet to center field and was Tovar's fourth home run. The Rockies added two more in the sixth to make it 8-3 on Tyler Freeman's RBI double and Goodman's groundout, which brought in a run. The Rockies tied it 3-3 in the third on McMahon's two-run homer. It was his 15th of the season. Ryan Ritter's run-scoring double in the bottom of the second cut Colorado's deficit to 3-1. Ritter left the game in the sixth after getting hit on the finger as he executed a sacrifice bunt. The Twins took a 3-0 lead in the second on an RBI triple by Clemens, a run-scoring double by Carlos Correa and an RBI single by Matt Wallner. --Field Level Media

Collier breaks WNBA All-Star scoring record in win over Team Clark

INDIANAPOLIS, July 19 (Reuters) - Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier eclipsed the WNBA All-Star scoring record with 36 points to lead her team past Team Clark 151-131 on Saturday, capping a two-day showcase of the league's top talent at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Collier bested the previous scoring record of 34 points set by Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale last year and added nine rebounds, marking another high point in a fantastic 2025 campaign for the league's leading scorer in Indianapolis. Veteran guard Skylar Diggins brought more luster to the night for Team Collier, becoming the first player to record a triple-double in a WNBA All-Star Game with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 15 assists. The team's 151 points also marked an All-Star all-time high. "We set a lot of records," said Collier, who was named the All-Star Game MVP. "It's just so fun." Team Clark, which played without its injured namesake captain Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever, never found its rhythm on offense despite the urgings of the sell-out crowd. The All-Star Game a year ago pitted the 2024 U.S. Olympic team against All-Stars, a marketing masterstroke that put pride on the line for players who were snubbed from the Team USA roster. The mood was far lighter this time around, as players joked playfully on the court and took advantage of the novelty "4-point shot" at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the hometown hero Clark sat sidelined with an injury. The Dallas Wings' first overall draft pick Paige Bueckers opened up the scoring as she drained a shot from the 4-point range for Team Collier and the side was up 22 points at the half to create an unassailable lead. Players warmed up wearing T-shirts that read "Pay Us What You Owe Us," putting the spotlight on intensifying labor talks between the WNBA and its players' union over a new collective bargaining agreement. The talks have hung over a two-day celebration of the league's rapid growth, with TV viewership and attendance soaring, and fans began cheering "Pay them!" after the final buzzer. "The mission was accomplished because we built an incredible amount of awareness this weekend," said the Los Angeles Sparks' Kelsey Plum, who added 16 points for Team Collier. "The fans are united in what they believe we're seeking."
