Delhi CNG pump owner robbed: Mastermind held after shootout
'At 1.45 am, acting on credible intelligence, the Special Staff laid a strategic trap near the Bijwasan-Najafgarh road, close to the Dwarka Expressway Flyover in Bijwasan. The primary accused, Dinesh Verma (40), was spotted and asked to stop,' DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel said.
Verma, however, didn't stop. Instead, he opened fire at the police while trying to flee on his bike. The police fired back, hitting his right leg, leading to him falling off his two-wheeler.
'During questioning, Verma, the mastermind of the robbery case, admitted to orchestrating the dacoity and supplying arms to his associates. He has a documented criminal history and was previously involved in seven heinous cases of robbery and murder, and cases under the Arms Act,' DCP Goel said.
Police also arrested his three associates, Ashish, Vikash Chaudhary and Arvind.
The robbery had taken place on the night of June 23. Karan Chopra, who has multiple CNG filling stations across the NCR, was at his farmhouse when a man knocked on his door posing as a delivery boy. As soon as he opened the gate, four men shoved him aside and barged in, claiming that they had guns. They then robbed the house of jewellery and cash, before taking Chopra hostage and driving him to MG Road in Gurgaon. They fled with Rs 30 lakh cash and some jewellery, officers had said.
According to police, the total number of arrests in the case has now reached 10.
In the first batch of arrests, four people were nabbed last month — including Chopra's current drivers Satendar Singh, 35, and Anil, 54, as well as Santosh Tripathi, 40, and Shammi, 49. On June 30, two more people were nabbed: the key conspirator Adhesh Kumar, 38, a former driver of the businessman; and Amit Kumar, 28, police said. Rs 50,000 and a Hyundai Aura used to ferry the accused to the farmhouse were recovered from Adhesh.
Police had said Adhesh tipped off Satendar and Anil about the location of the cash.

SC slams Allahabad HC for making film producer pay Rs 25 Lakh before Mediation in cheating FIR, quashes case
New Delhi, Jul 19 (UNI) The Supreme Court has strongly criticised the Allahabad High Court for directing film producer Shailesh Kumar Singh to pay Rs 25 lakh to a complainant as a precondition for referring a cheating FIR dispute to mediation, despite it being a purely civil matter. A Bench comprising Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice R Mahadevan quashed the FIR registered against Singh, co-founder and production head of Karma Media and Entertainment LLP, calling the High Court's approach 'disturbing' and contrary to settled law on quashing criminal proceedings. 'We are quite disturbed by the manner in which the High Court has passed the impugned order. The High Court first directed the appellant to pay Rs 25 lakh to the complainant and thereafter directed him to appear before the Mediation Centre. That's not what is expected of a High Court… What is expected is to look into the allegations in the FIR along with the material on record,' the Bench observed. The FIR, filed on January 9, 2025 at Hariparwat Police Station in Agra, alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust under Sections 60(b), 316(2), and 318(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The complainant, a promoter of Polaroid Media engaged in financing media projects, accused Singh of cheating in connection with an oral business agreement between their companies. Singh approached the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR, arguing that it was a civil commercial dispute being given a criminal colour. However, the High Court on March 7 directed him to pay Rs 25 lakh to the complainant, appear before the Mediation and Conciliation Centre, and pay Rs 5,000 as mediation fees, while restraining his arrest conditionally. The Supreme Court noted that the High Court failed to examine whether the FIR disclosed any criminal offence and instead turned the proceedings into a recovery mechanism. 'How many times the High Courts are to be reminded that to constitute an offence of cheating, there has to be something more than prima facie on record to indicate that the intention of the accused was to cheat the complainant right from the inception,' the Court said. The Bench emphasised that even if Singh owed money under the oral agreement, it did not amount to cheating unless there was fraudulent intent from the beginning. It held that the FIR was an abuse of the criminal process and quashed it, clarifying that the complainant remained free to pursue recovery proceedings in an appropriate civil forum. 'We fail to understand why the High Court should undertake such exercise. The High Court may either allow the petition saying no offence is disclosed, or reject it if a case is made out. Why should the High Court make an attempt to help the complainant recover the amount due and payable by the accused,' the Court remarked. Advocate Sana Raees Khan appeared for Singh, Advocate Anand Mishra represented the complainant, and Advocate Shaurya Krishna appeared for the State of Uttar Pradesh. UNI SNG RN

‘Love jihad' threat to nation's integrity, says court, gives man 7-yr jail sentence
Representative photo A Yamunanagar court has sentenced a man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and intimidating a minor Hindu girl to coerce her into a relationship with a Muslim juvenile, terming the case one of 'love jihad'. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the convict and said such acts were 'a potential threat' to the nation's sovereignty and integrity. While acknowledging that 'love jihad' is not a legal term under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita or the Pocso Act , the court described it as a 'purported campaign by Muslim men to convert non-Muslim women to Islam by pretending to be in love.' In Nov last year, a 14-yearold girl filed a complaint at City Yamunanagar police station, naming Shahbaj and a juvenile. She alleged the boy had stalked her on her way to school while Shahbaj pressured her to befriend him. The FIR invoked sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of BNS, and sections 17 (abetment), 8 (sexual assault) and 12 (sexual harassment of a child) under Pocso. The defence counsel, SS Nehra, argued that the accused was falsely implicated. However, additional sessions judge Ranjana Aggarwal, in her July 17 order, said Shahbaj systematically tried to force an interfaith relationship through 'allurement and inducement.' The court awarded him four years under Pocso Section 8, two years under Section 12, and one year under BNS Section 351(2), with fines totalling Rs 1 lakh. All sentences will run consecutively
