State govt to join hands with 5 leading foreign universities for education city in Navi Mumbai
The five universities invited to establish campuses in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai include the University of Aberdeen, the University of York, the University of Western Australia, the Illinois Institute of Technology, and the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED).
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan will be the chief guest at the event. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputies Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil are also expected to attend.
The initiative, led by the Government of Maharashtra with support from CIDCO, aims to develop an International Education City near the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The education hub, spanning a 5-km radius, will be the first of its kind in the country offering students access to high-quality international education within India.
Officials said that the project could not only improve academic standards in India but also promote cultural exchange and collaboration between Indian and international students and faculty. 'The International Education City will help bring global education to our doorstep and create opportunities for students from across India,' a government official stated.

The company will occupy the 12th floor of the tower under a fresh five-year lease beginning May 5, 2025, the documents showed. Over the lease tenure of 60 months, the company will pay about ₹20.5 crore in rent, with a 15% escalation every three years. The space has been taken from landlord Mikado Realtors Pvt Ltd, a Tata Group Company (Tata Realty and Infrastructure Ltd), at a rate of ₹71 per sq ft per month. The security deposit for the transaction is ₹1.6 crore, the document showed. The Letter of Intent (LOI) for the transaction was signed on August 25, 2023. Approvals under SEZ norms have been granted, allowing the company to undertake IT-enabled services such as repair and maintenance, business support, and related operations from the premises, Propstack said. IAI, Israel's largest aerospace and astronautics manufacturer, supplies advanced systems for both defence and civilian sectors. Its expanded India presence comes at a time of deepening collaboration between the two countries in defence and technology. Documents show that the commercial space has been leased in the Udyog Vihar area of Gurugram, Sector 18, in a property constructed by Chimera Developers LLP. The security deposit paid for the property measuring a total of 7.06 lakh sq ft is ₹10 crore, the documents showed. In July, Table Space Technologies Private Limited, a flexible workspace solution provider, leased 5.34 lakh sq ft of office space for ₹3.47 crore per month in Intellion Park in Sector 59, Gurugram, and the space is proposed to be leased to tech giant Google, according to the property registration document reviewed by real estate analytics firms Propequity and Propstack. The transaction was completed on April 17, with a stamp duty payment of ₹2.49 crore.

Parliament passes bill to set up IIM in Guwahati, provides capital support of ₹550 crore
The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed a bill to set up an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati with the Union government providing a capital support of ₹550 crore. "The 22nd IIM in the country will be set up in Guwahati at an investment of ₹ 555 crore," union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.(Sansad TV) The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Opposition staged a walkout after the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Replying to the discussion on the bill, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said this will be the 9th IIM to be established under the Narendra Modi-led government in the last 10 years. "The 22nd IIM in the country will be set up in Guwahati at an investment of ₹555 crore," the minister said. He expressed gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his efforts to seek approval for the establishment of an IIM in the state. "I am happy today (with) the way Northeast is emerging. Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is solidly behind the Northeast... IIM Guwahati will certainly create a bigger scenario for entire Northeast, especially Assam and Guwahati," Pradhan said. The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025 -- which was passed amid din in the Lower House on Tuesday -- will help set up the second IIM in the Northeast after Shillong. The establishment of an IIM in Guwahati as an institution of national importance is one of the projects under the special development package provided to Assam.
