As players gathered after weeks of playing in different formats and teams, Krishna noted the value of match exposure and the challenge of adjusting to red-ball rhythms. "It's really important for all of us to get this game time. Some guys are coming off the A match, so just getting time on your feet is key. That's what today has been about as well," he said.
He praised the playing conditions and competitive spirit within the group. "It's a nice, hard pitch and the bowlers have been in the game throughout. We've seen some really good spells, and it's great to see people showing character. When you're competing against your own teammates, it lifts everyone's level."
On the camaraderie and dressing room atmosphere, Prasidh added, "We're all coming together after a while. A lot of us have shared cricket and memories before, so we're keeping things light. You can't be locked in all the time, especially when you're not in the middle. So, we're making sure to enjoy the company of fun people, but stay ready to switch on when needed."
Captain Gill, speaking earlier, echoed the emphasis on team clarity and discipline. "Let's maintain our intensity,' he told the squad. 'When we're building as a group, let's make sure we focus on the key areas — whether it's as a bowling unit or batting unit."

There were all kinds of questions swirling around Shubman Gill's Test career in the early months of the year, which led to a few raised eyebrows when he was made India captain after Rohit Sharma's retirement. 'No question, Shubman Gill he'll be around for a long, long time because we've seen what kind of series he's had here. I think he's only 25 years of age, and as you know, with this exposure, he'll get even better,' Shastri said on Sky Sports. Gill scored a whopping 754 runs in the five-match Test series in England. He fell for scores of 21 and 11 in fifth Test, which resulted in him missing out on Sunil Gavaskar's record for most runs by an Indian in a Test series by about 20. He also became just the third Indian to score over 700 runs in a series after Gavaskar and his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal. Gill's tally is also the second highest for a captain in any Test series, only 56 runs behind the record of 810 held by the legendary Don Bradman, who had scored that against England at home in the 1936/37 Ashes. Conversely, it is the highest score by any Indian captain in a Test series by a margin of of 22 runs – Gavaskar held the record previous for the 732 he scored in the six-Test series against the West Indies in 1978/79. Gill started the series by scoring a century on his captaincy debut. He scored 147 in his very first innings as the skipper, followed by a score of eight in the second innings. Gill then made merry in the second Test, scoring a record 269 in the first innings and 161 in the second as he powered India to a 336-run win at Edgbaston. He then could only manage scores of 16 and six in the third Test and 12 in the first innings of the fourth before grinding out 103 runs off 238 balls as part of a match-saving effort with KL Rahul. Rahul and Gill batted out nearly 70 overs after which unbeaten centuries by Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar helped India draw the match. This was followed by the 21 and 11 he scored at the Oval.

Prithvi Shaw to make Maharashtra debut in Buchi Babu Tournament
Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his first appearance for Maharashtra as he's been named in the 17-member squad for the All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. Shaw parted ways with Mumbai earlier this year to join Maharashtra after being ignored for the majority of the previous domestic 25-year-old will be desperate to make a fresh start after a forgettable last season with Mumbai, as he was reportedly dropped on the grounds of fitness and discipline issues. Jhye Richardson Eyes Ashes Return Following Shoulder Recovery
Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson's chances of featuring in this year's Ashes look slim after only resuming bowling on Tuesday following his third shoulder surgery in January. Despite the setback, the 28-year-old remains hopeful of making a strong comeback with the Sheffield Shield season just seven weeks away, according to ESPNcricinfo. In an effort to be fully fit for the Ashes series, which begins on November 21 later this year, Richardson had his third surgery on his right bowling shoulder in January. He has not participated in a Test match since the previous Ashes series in Australia, where he secured the triumph in Adelaide by capturing his first five-wicket haul in the format. Since then, he has struggled with injuries, including a hamstring operation in 2024, as well as mental health problems. Since his last Test, he has only participated in four first-class games. His most recent outing was in November of last year, when he dislocated his shoulder while high-fiving a teammate. "As nice as it would be [to play in the Ashes], there is a lot of water to go under the bridge before then. We're not counting out Ashes cricket, but there's a long process that has started and has been ongoing, and there is a lot to go through before then. Things are looking good for the summer, and I should be up and ready to go," Richardson said as quoted from ESPNcricinfo. "Some were good, some were bad, and some hit the side net and things like that. I was a little bit rusty, but it's good signs," Richardson said. "We're hitting the milestones that we planned out at the start, and while it has been really slow, things are looking good." Richardson has appeared in 36 fixtures for Australia across all formats, in which he has grabbed 57 wickets at an average of 27.92, with best figures of 5/42. In Test cricket, he has played three matches and scalped 11 wickets at an average of 22.09.
