Parmeet Sethi, who debuted in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, faced setbacks with his film on The Great Gama due to similar projects by Salman Khan.
Parmeet Sethi, who began his acting career with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995, shifted gears after years of working in both films and television. Around 2010, he decided to try his hand at writing and penned a love story set against the backdrop of India-Pakistan relations. However, the project faced multiple setbacks and was eventually shelved. He then wrote Badmaash Company, which went on to be a major success under Aditya Chopra's production.
In an interview with SCREEN, Parmeet Sethi said his career break happened because of struggles. He had written a film about wrestler The Great Gama and took it to Aditya Chopra. But Aditya had already approved a similar film, Sultan, with Salman Khan. He recalled, 'The problem was the film I had written was on The Great Gama. I wanted to make that film and I went to Aditya Chopra with the script. Just a week before, Aditya had approved a similar script, called Sultan, which they eventually made with Salman Khan. Aditya was like, 'I can't make two films about wrestlers.'"
Parmeet Sethi felt let down but followed Aditya Chopra's advice to pitch his film elsewhere. He approached John Abraham, who liked the story and agreed to act in and produce it. Everything was going well until Salman Khan announced a movie on the same topic. 'I stepped out of Yash Raj and I approached John Abraham. He loved the script. He was ready to both star and produce the film. We were both happy and started to work on it. Unfortunately, a month later, Salman Khan announced a project on the same subject. So our studio said there are two films coming on the same subject, Salman Khan has announced the film, we cannot take this forward," he said.
There were rumours that Salman Khan would produce a show about The Great Gama, with his brother Sohail Khan in the lead role. However, no official updates about the series have been released yet.

Aamir Khan reveals why Imran Khan does not fit in the industry: 'He's not comfortable with herogiri'

Imran Khan made his debut with 'Jaane Jaane Na' and Aamir Khan was one of the producers on the film. While Imran was loved in his first film and went on to do movies like 'Break Ke Baad', 'Delhi Belly' and many others, he took a long break from the industry and hasn't done a movie in a while. In a recent interview, while Aamir was promoting his upcoming film 'Sitaare Zameen Par', he spoke about why Imran doesn't fit in the industry. He said in an interview with Screen, "Imran has a certain creative instinct. He finds it difficult to fit into the mainstream construct we have. That's not his natural space. Which is why he'd do really well in a film like Jaane Tu and Delhi Belly. He's in his element there." He added further, 'But the moment you put him into a regular Hindi film, he won't fit. He's not comfortable with herogiri. He wants to play a real person. Everybody was offering him mainstream films because he's good-looking. But he wants to be an actor, and not a star." Imran was away from the limelight for a while, but recently, his Instagram posts created a lot of buzz. He started expressing himself on social media. In an interview with Vogue, he also opened up on the reason for his break from the industry. He said, "I hit a low in 2016 where I felt broken inside. At that point, it wasn't my career because I wasn't excited by it enough to want to work hard for it. I had recently become a father and thought, 'This is valuable. This is something I take seriously.' I wanted to be the best version of myself for Imara. I decided it was no longer my job to be an actor. Now, I had to fix myself; be at my healthiest and strongest for my daughter." Imran was married to Avantika and got divorced in 2019. They have a daughter, Imara. Imran is now in a relationship with Lekha Washington.

When Salman Khan called marriage ‘a funny thing'; joked about father Salim Khan marrying twice: ‘He's really happy with two wives'

Even though he is set to turn 60 this year, Salman Khan remains unmarried. Although he has been linked to various female celebrities over the years, with the most recent rumour being Romanian actor, singer and television presenter Iulia Vantur, Salman remains 'officially single'. He has, nonetheless, shared his thoughts on marriage multiple times; sometimes seriously, sometimes in jest. Interestingly, he once said that marriage is inherently 'a funny thing', making it a fertile theme for films to explore comedy, especially around the events that unfold in a couple's journey. 'I think marriage is a funny thing. Movies like Biwi No 1 (1999) and Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) basically focused on that. There's a lot of (scope for) comedy, even in fights that happen among couples. 'Aapke maa ne yeh kyu bola? Khane pe kyun bola? (Why did your mom say this? Why did you invite me for food?)' There's also the saas-bahu stories, and Ekta Kapoor is making money out of just that,' he shared during a chat with Lehren. Watch | Navjot Singh Sidhu confirms return to The Great Indian Kapil Show, shocked Archana Puran Singh responds: 'Patti wapas baandh de' Mentioning that although people say getting married is the best thing, Salman Khan pointed out that he has seen quite a few who aren't as happy in married life as they appear. He even joked about his father, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan, who married twice, mentioning that Salim might be the only person he knows who's actually happy with two wives. 'My dad is really happy because he has two wives. And they're both happy too. They get along with each other fine,' he said. While Salim Khan tied the knot with Salma Khan (née Sushila Charak) in 1964, he married actor Helen Richardson in 1981. Salman is currently going through a rough patch in his career, with his movies not working at the box office. After the underperformance of Tiger 3, his most recent Sikandar, where he shared the screen with Rashmika Mandanna, had also bombed. Sikandar was helmed by AR Murugadoss.

Aamir Khan Says Imran Khan Doesn't "Fit" In Bollywood Because Of THIS Reason

Last Updated: Aamir mentioned that Imran isn't comfortable with "herogiri". Imran Khan, the nephew of iconic Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, entered the Hindi film industry with significant expectations. However, he disappeared from Bollywood after a short stint. In a recent chat with SCREEN, Aamir mentioned that Imran isn't comfortable with 'herogiri" and thus finds it difficult to 'fit" in Bollywood. Aamir Khan said, 'Imran has a certain creative instinct. He finds it difficult to fit into the mainstream construct we have. That's not his natural space. Which is why he'd do really well in a film like Jaane Tu and Delhi Belly. He's in his element there." He added, 'But the moment you put him into a regular Hindi film, he won't fit. He's not comfortable with herogiri. He wants to play a real person. Everybody was offering him mainstream films because he's good-looking. But he wants to be an actor, and not a star." Imran began his career as a child actor with brief roles in films like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, appearing alongside his uncle. His adult debut came in 2008 with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, which catapulted him to fame. Directed by Abbas Tyrewala and produced by Aamir Khan, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na was a youthful romantic comedy that resonated with audiences. Imran's portrayal of the sweet and sensitive Jai Singh Rathore, opposite Genelia D'Souza, gained him widespread recognition and the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. His boy-next-door charm and natural acting style made him an instant favourite among the youth. After his successful debut, Imran appeared in a series of romantic comedies and light-hearted films, including I Hate Luv Storys (2010), Break Ke Baad (2010), and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan (2011). He established himself as a modern romantic hero, often playing the affable, slightly awkward lover. In 2011, Imran took a bold step with Delhi Belly, a dark comedy produced by Aamir Khan. The film was a critical and commercial success, highlighting his versatility and willingness to experiment. He followed it up with Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012), a nuanced romantic drama that was moderately well received. However, after 2012, Imran's career began to decline. Films like Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (2013) and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein (2013) underperformed at the box office. By the mid-2010s, he had stepped back from acting, expressing dissatisfaction with the roles being offered. In recent years, Imran Khan has largely stayed out of the limelight, occasionally appearing in interviews or public events. In 2023, he hinted at a possible comeback, sparking interest among his fans. Although his Bollywood journey was brief, Imran Khan left a distinctive mark during a time when youthful romantic comedies were thriving. First Published:
