Qatar Customs issues statement on seizure of traveller's undeclared gemstones

Qatar Customs released a clarification on 28 July 2025 regarding a recent traveller complaint about the confiscation of gemstones upon arrival in the country. The General Authority of Customs emphasised that it strictly enforces customs declarations in line with Law No. (20) of 2019 on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing and its implementing regulations. According to the law, all travellers entering or leaving Qatar must declare any currency, bearer negotiable instruments, precious metals, or gemstones valued at QR 50,000 or more (or equivalent in other currencies) by completing the approved declaration form. As a result, the undeclared items were subject to seizure under the law. Qatar Customs reaffirmed its commitment to applying the law transparently while facilitating smooth travel procedures and urged all travellers to comply with declaration requirements to avoid delays or penalties. توضيح بشأن شكوى مسافر حول مصادرة أحجار كريمة كانت بحوزته #جمارك_قطر #الإقرار_الجمركي — الهيئة العامة للجمارك (@Qatar_Customs) July 28, 2025
