How Ne Zha 2 dethroned Inside Out 2 as the highest-grossing animated film ever
If you're an animation fan, by now you've probably heard of the Chinese fantasy feature Ne Zha 2. If you haven't, then you may be surprised to learn that the film has recently surpassed Disney and Pixar's Inside Out 2 to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
The sequel follows the titular character Ne Zha, as he embarks on a sort of vengeance mission with the help of kings, gods and other mythical creatures, in order to restore health and peace to his community.
The film is not only the biggest film of 2025 and the biggest film ever produced in China, but it's also the fifth-highest grossing movie in global box office history, having made more than $2 billion.

Disney World getting rid of three beloved rides for new ‘Cars' attraction
A Cars -themed section is coming to Disney World — which means something has to go. Rides and attractions inspired by the Lightning McQueen-loving franchise are coming to Magic Kingdom's Frontierland nearly 20 years after the first movie's release. To make room for Piston Peak National Park, three longtime attractions will be displaced, according to a Disney Parks Blog post. Browse here. While the three Frontierland draws inspiration from the Mississippi River region, the Cars universe is set in the Arizona/Route 66 part of the United States. That said, Disney Parks is hoping the Piston Peak expanse will 'continue the sweeping storytelling tradition' of the areas where it will reside, with nods to the American Frontier nestled within the attractions. The fictional Piston Peak National Park (which was introduced in the Cars offshoot Planes: Fire & Rescue ) will feature rivers, waterfalls, geysers and 'snowcapped mountains,' according to Disney. Imagineers said the natural flow of the landscape and thoughtful sightline management are key to ensuring the new area fits seamlessly between Liberty Square and Frontierland. Cars got the Disney Parks treatment in 2012 when Radiator Springs, the quaint setting of the first movie, opened to the public at Disney California Adventure. There is also the CARS Road Trip attraction in Disneyland Paris, which opened in 2021. However, not everyone is happy about the update. 'I am heartbroken at the loss of Tom Sawyer Island,' one fan said, calling it 'the WORST decision ever.' Another 'disgusted' detractor accused Disney of 'wiping out of the Walt Disney era.' A third X user mourned the loss of a 'true park within a park.' They noted: 'Walt's Rivers of America transports you to something ideal in American values of exploration, adventure, history, and scenery. This is a HUGE mistake from Disney. Cartoon Cars will never last the test of time.' However, one place applauded Disney for keeping the 'same vibe' by 'incorporation the river and adding new water features.' The opening date of Piston Peak National Park has yet to be announced.

‘Lilo & Stitch' cruises to No. 1 again; John Wick spinoff ‘Ballerina' dances to 2nd place

The Disney juggernaut celebrated a third weekend at the top of the charts, while the John Wick spinoff 'Ballerina' did not jeté as high as expected. According to studio estimates Sunday, 'From the World of John Wick: Ballerina' earned US$25 million from 3,409 theaters in the U.S. and Canada. Several weeks ago it was tracking to open in the $35 to $40 million range, but that was adjusted down several times. Ultimately, it still came in lower than forecasts. The movie, directed by Len Wiseman, makes a sideline character out of Keanu Reeves' John Wick and focuses on Ana de Armas. It takes place during the events of 'John Wick 3.' The box office performance is a bit perplexing result considering that 'Ballerina' got good critic reviews and audience exit polls. Conventional wisdom would say that word of mouth might have given it a boost over the weekend. But, recently, opening weekend isn't the end all that it used to be. 'Ballerina' could be in the game for the long haul. The Lionsgate release, a Thunder Road Films and 87Eleven Entertainment production, had a hefty production price tag reported to be in the $90 million range. But much of that cost has already been offset by foreign pre-sales. Internationally, it earned $26 million from 82 countries, bringing its global opening to $51 million. As the first spinoff, it's the second lowest opening of the five-film franchise – above only the first film which opened just over $14 million in 2014, which does not account for inflation. The franchise overall has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. First place once again went to 'Lilo & Stitch,' which added another $32.5 million in North America, bringing its domestic total to $335.8 and global tally to $772.6 million. In just 17 days, it's already made more domestically than the live-action 'The Little Mermaid' did in its entire run ($298 million). 'Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning' slid to third place with $15 million, bringing its worldwide total to $450.4 million. 'Karate Kid: Legends' earned $8.7 million to take fourth place. And 'Final Destination: Bloodlines' rounded out the top five with $6.5 million. The new Wes Anderson movie 'The Phoenician Scheme' expanded beyond New York and Los Angeles to 1,678 theaters nationwide.
