Wrexham chief tells Championship rivals: be afraid if we have shot at promotion in December

The Hollywood fairy tale that is Wrexham AFC is only just beginning, the club's CEO said on Friday as the Welsh side continued its unlikely quest to crack the Premier League.
Since Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club in 2020, Wrexham have become the first team to earn three successive promotions from England's national league to the second-tier Championship.
Wrexham will play relegated former Premier League club Southampton in their Championship opener on August 9, a prospect Michael Williamson described as a 'pinch yourself' moment.
Speaking in Wellington during the club's pre-season tour to Australia and New Zealand, the CEO said success was more than simply making up the numbers.
'The expectation is, and Rob McElhenney will say that he doesn't know what this word is, but obviously we need to consolidate our position in the Championship,' Williamson said.
'If we are able to find ourselves halfway through the season, in December, in that 3-4-5-6-7 position, people should be worried about us.

Scuffle on stage at London's Royal Opera House as performer unfurls Palestinian flag

London's Royal Opera House on Sunday condemned as 'wholly inappropriate' the actions of a performer who held up a Palestinian flag onstage at the end of a performance. Video footage posted online shows a brief scuffle at the edge of the stage as a figure dressed in a shirt and tie unsuccessfully attempts to stop the performer. The incident in the British capital on Saturday during the curtain call came on the closing night of an 11-night run of Il Trovatore, a four-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi. 'Extraordinary scenes at the Royal Opera House tonight,' a person who claimed to have been in the audience posted on social media. 'During the curtain call for Il Trovatore one of the background artists came on stage waving a Palestine flag. Just stood there, no bowing or shouting. Someone offstage kept trying to take it off him. Incredible.' A spokesperson for the Royal Ballet and Opera in London's Covent Garden said the 'display of the flag was an unauthorised action by the artist'.

Tyson Fury calls for a third Usyk title fight, but Warren says Parker is next in line

Tyson Fury has thrown his hat in the ring to fight new undisputed world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for a third time. Advertisement Usyk dismantled Fury's fellow British boxer Daniel Dubois in scintillating fashion at Wembley on Saturday. Usyk's brutal fifth-round stoppage made him undisputed world heavyweight champion for a second time. He initially won all the belts against Fury last May in Riyadh, but was forced to vacate his IBF title. Former WBC-belt holder Fury went into retirement after he tasted a second defeat to Usyk on a split decision last December, but signalled his intentions to return earlier this month and served notice to the undefeated Ukrainian on Sunday.
